Mrs. Frances Hunter
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Gattis Hunter, 82, of 2021 Trail Five, died Sunday morning, July 5, 1998, at her home after 1 1/2 years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. T. Scott Hunter, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Arthur Robinson Gattis Sr., and Mrs. Martha Corina Terry Gattis, both deceased. She was a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church and was a lifetime worker for the Children' Nursery Department at the church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sons, Mr. Keith Hunter of Burlington and Mr. Bobby Hunter of Snow Camp; a brother, Mr. A.R. "Jack" Gattis of Warner Robbins, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Lillian G. Browning and Ms. Esther G. Jordan; and a brother, Mr. C.D. Gattis Sr.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Al Roberts, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 Tuesday and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church Nursery Department, 302 N. Logan St., Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mr. James E. Wilson
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Edward Wilson, 51, of 1202 Westmoreland Drive, died at 12:18 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill from injuries received in an automobile accident on Rauhut Street June 25.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mildred Flintall Wilson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Phillip Wilson Sr., and Mrs. Nellie Alston Wilson, who both survive.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and parents of Oxford include a son, Mr. Jami Dion Wilson of the home; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Pamela Randolph of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Mrs. Sharon Luck of the home; a stepson, Mr. Antonio Flintall of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Owens and Ms. Janice Wilson of Oxford; and two brothers, Mr. Ernest Wilson of Oxford and Mr. Phillip Wilson Jr. of New York.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Tabernacle of Rosenwald Street by the Rev. Calvin Langley, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.
Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leslie H. Haith
NEW YORK CITY - Mr. Leslie Hilton Haith, 65, of New York City died Friday, July 3, 1998.
Sharpe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Doris P. Ferrell
MEBANE - Mrs. Doris Augusta Parrish Ferrell, 62, of 710-A Carr St., died at 7:18 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Chickamauga, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. William C. Ferrell, and the daughter of Mr. Charles Parrish and Mrs. Ruth Pope Parrish, both deceased. She was a retired employee of 4 C's of Burlington and was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Debby Cole of Mebane and Ms. Brenda Finley of Elijay, Ga.; a son, Mr. Darrell Parrish of Dalton, Ga.; two sisters, Ms. Barbara Hyde of Georgia and Miss Jane Ferrell of Virginia; three brothers, Mr. David Parrish, Ronnie Parrish and Billy Parrish, all of Georgia; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p..m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Keith Spake and the Rev. Rick Faulk. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this Tuesday evening, and at other times at the home of Ms. Debby Cole, 602 N. Carr St., Mebane.

Master Sgt. Wade Zufall
GRAHAM - Retired Master Sgt. Wade David Zufall, 69, of 1423 N.C. 54-Swepsonville Road, Apt. H, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after six months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Indiana County, Pa., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mildred B. Zufall, and the son of Mr. Wade B. Zufall and Mrs. Catherine Morrison Zufall, both deceased. He retired as a master sergeant with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, where he served as a Green Beret. He was an employee of Direct Service Center. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Greensboro.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Tammy Clapp and Mrs. Linda Thomas, both of Burlington, Mrs. Becky Smith of Graham and Miss Debbie Zufall of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Miss Patti Wheeler of New Bern and Ms. Pam Wheeler of Swansboro; two grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forestlawn cemetery in Greensboro.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6:30 to 8 Monday evening.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122; or to Elon Homes for Children, P.O. Box 157, Elon College, N.C. 27244.

Mr. Paul Norris
RAMSEUR - Mr. Paul Norris, 83, of Randolph Hills, Apt. 2-A, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at the Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
A native of Columbus County, he was retired from Randolph Mills. He was a member of Pentecostal Victory Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Ms. Annie Ruth Edwards of Morehead City, Ms. Shelby Jean McPhail and Ms. Judy Carol Sands Cobb, both of Burlington, Ms. Mary Frances Stewart of Whispering Pines and Ms. Brenda Faye Moody of Siler City; six sons, Mr. Harold Dean Norris, Mr. Bobby Norris, Mr. Charles Norris and Mr. Roger Norris, all of Asheboro, Mr. Ronnie Paul Norris of Morehead City and Mr. Tony Norris of Franklinville; a sister, Ms. Thedis Richardson of Lumberton; two brothers, Mr. Ervin Norris and Mr. Abraham Norris, both of Lumberton; 29 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pentecostal Victory Temple Church in Siler City by the Rev. Reggie Rakes and the Rev. Perry Brown. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the New Hollywood cemetery in Lumberton.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur from 6 to 9 Monday evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. William Davis Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. William Ervin Davis Sr., 79, of 465 N.C. 87 North, died at 10:32 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Louise Parker Davis, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Lee Davis and Mrs. Hattie Boggs Davis, both deceased. He was employed for many years with Isley's Hosiery in Graham. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. William Ervin "Bill" Davis Jr. of Graham and Mr. Robert Lee Davis of Burlington; two sisters, Ms. Eva Hash and Ms. Gladys Thompson, both of Siler City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Lee Davis.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Leslie Jolley, pastor of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ; the Rev. Steve Loy, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church; and the Rev. Raymond Webb, former pastor of Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Margaret Berger
MEBANE - Mrs. Margaret vonBehren Berger, 93, of 112 N. Oakland Drive, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998, at her home after a short illness.
A native of Bloomington, Ind., she was the wife of the late Mr. Paul Berger, and the daughter of Mr. William J. vonBehren and Mrs. Ida Harbison vonBehren, both deceased. She was a retired laboratory technician and was a member of Union Congregation Church in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Survivors include a niece and a nephew.
The funeral will be conducted at a later date in Florida.
There will be no visitation.
McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Minnie C. Ritter
GRAHAM - Mrs. Minnie Etta Cook Ritter, 81, of 2402 Rogers Court, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at her home after two years of failing health, two days critical. She was formerly of 213 Washington St.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. James Luther Ritter, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Jim Cook and Mrs. Betty Allen Cook, both deceased. She was a retired hosiery employee and was a member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Junior (Edna) Norris of Burlington, Mrs. William O. (Rachel) Brooks of High Point, Mrs. Don (Betty) Greeson of Roxboro and Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Boaze of Graham; two sons, Mr. Franklin Ritter of Dayton, Ohio., and Mr. Jimmy Ritter of Graham; a brother, Mr. James Cook Jr. of Mebane; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-step grandchildren; and one great-great-step grandchildren.
The funeral was Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Wade Cox, pastor of Nall Memorial Baptist Church. Burial was in Alamance Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mrs. Mae Thompson
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mae Belle Thompson, 62, of 6635 N.C. 87 South, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after seven years of failing health.
A native of Pitt County, she was the wife of Mr. John Harley Thompson, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. John N. Gore and Mrs. Vera N. Gore, both deceased. She was a member of Faith Worship Center.
Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Ms. Carlene Ray of Mebane and Ms. Jada Thompson of Burlington; a son, Mr. Kenneth Thompson of the home; and a brother, Mr. Johnny Gore of Jupiter, Fla.
The funeral was Sunday at McClure Funeral Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Ozzie Thompson. Burial was in Graham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Agnes L. Carter
HALIFAX, Va. - Mrs. Agnes Latham Carter, 83, of 5125 Halifax Road, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1914, in Duerrant, Ky., she was the wife of the late Mr. Alfred Henry Carter, and the daughter of the Rev. William Luther Latham and Mrs. Agnes Adams Latham, both deceased. She was a former math and Latin teacher with the Halifax County School System and taught at Scottsburg High School, Volens High School, Halifax County High School and Halifax County Junior High. She was a member of Halifax Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and organist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Meredith C. Patterson of Burlington and Mrs. Elinor C. Keirstead of Titusville, Fla.; two sons, Mr. Alfred William Carter of Manassas, Va., and Mr. Giles Meriwether Carter of Greensboro; three sisters, Ms. Sarah L. Campbell of Richmond, Va., the Rev. Carolyn L. Reilly of Lower Brule, S.D., and Ms. Louise Burke of Louisburg; a brother, Mr. William R. Latham of Annadale, Va.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Halifax Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bill Young and Dr. Russell Lee. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston, Va., from 7 to 8:30 Monday evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Halifax Presbyterian Church.
