Mrs. Vertilea G. Wade
CEDAR GROVE - Mrs. Vertilea Graves "Burt" Wade, 91, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, in Washington, D.C.
Born Feb. 12, 1907, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Arvie Wade, and the daughter of Mr. John Graves and Mrs. Lessie Hester Graves, both deceased. She was a long-time member of Warren's Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and was its financial secretary.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Hazel Wiley and Ms. Louise Allen, both of Washington, D.C.; a son, Mr. Leon Wade of Upper Marlboro, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Warren's Chapel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill by the Rev. James Brown, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Stephen Henderson
PELHAM - Mr. Stephen Douglas Henderson, 64, of 1038 Mineral Springs Road, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at his home.
Born April 4, 1934, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Eliza Sherrill Henderson, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Annie Holloway Henderson, who survives, and the late Mr. Hubert Henderson. He was retired from P. Lorrilard Tobacco Co. in Danville, Va.
Survivors other than his wife of Ringold, Va., and mother of Pelham include two daughters, Miss Vonnie Kay Henderson and Miss Lillie Ann Henderson, both of Danville; five sons, Mr. Stephen Henderson Jr. and Mr. Joel Henderson, both of Danville, Mr. Winston Henderson and Mr. Donald Henderson, both of Ringold, and Mr. Lloyd Henderson of Lawrenceville, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Kay Murphy of Reidsville, Ms. Mary Alice Graves of Philadelphia, Mrs. Carolyn V. Pulliam of Burlington and Miss Brenda Faye Henderson and Miss Beverly A. Henderson, both of Pelham; five brothers, Mr. John McCoy Henderson and Mr. James Wilson Henderson both of Pelham, Mr. Herbert Henderson of Providence, and Mr. Ellis Henderson and Mr. Leon Henderson, both of Yanceyville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home of the mother, 1038 Mineral Springs Road, Pelham.
Mr. Moses Bigelow Jr.
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Moses Bigelow Jr., 67, of 5620 Old N.C. 86 North, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his home.
Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ardellia Gwynn Bigelow, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Luella Jeffries Bigelow, who survives, and the late Mr. Moses Bigelow Sr. He was a self-employed truck driver and was a member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Yanceyville include four sisters, Mrs. Juanita Yancey of Danville, Va., Mrs. Estella Short of Eden, Mrs. Luella Blackwell of Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. Jane Dildy of Yanceyville; and three brothers, Mr. Charles Albert Bigelow of Yanceyville, Mr. Fred Bigelow of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Mr. James A. Bigelow of Providence.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Bigelow. Burial will be in the church cemtery.
The body may be viewed from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home.
Mrs. Luvenia Hamlett
GRAHAM - Mrs. Luvenia Chambers "Ben" Hamlett, 68, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born July 19, 1929, in Person County, she was the wife of Mr. Wendell Hamlett, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Lillie Fuller Chambers, who survives, and the late Mr. Thomas Chambers. She attended Orange County Schools and worked for JOCCA. She was a member of Warren's Chapel Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors other than her husband of the Brian Center in Durham and mother of Green Level, include five daughters, Ms. Esther C. Allison of Pleasant Grove, Ms. Barbara C. Walker of Green Level, Ms. Erma J. Chambers and Ms. Marcella E. Chambers, both of Graham, and Ms. Keokuk Chambers of Burlington; a son, Mr. Joe D. Chambers of Mebane; eight sisters, Ms. Geneva Farrish of Burlington, Ms. Lucille Chambers of Green Level, Ms. Lillie Chambers of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Ms. Camille White of Cedar Grove, Ms. Shirley Lawson and Ms. Calvesta Crisp, both of Mebane, Ms. Christine Hall of Richmond, Va., and Ms. Ann Cates of Hillsborough; four brothers, Mr. Willie Chambers of Green Level, Mr. Thomas I. Chambers of Mebane, Mr. Ray Chambers of Columbus, Ga., and Mr. Jackie Cates of Leasburg; 26 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Jessie James Chambers and Mr. Tony Norris Chambers.

Mrs. Beryl D. Coley
NEWTON - Mrs. Beryl D. Coley, 81, 4660 Hickory-Lincolnton Road, died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory.
A native of Nansemond, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Norman C. Coley, and the daughter of Mr. Herbert Duke and Mrs. Blanche Parker Duke, both deceased. She was former co-owner of Dunn-Coley Real Estate Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca C. Poteat of Newton; a son, Mr. R. Steve Coley of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Beulah Pulley and Mrs. Daphne R. Mattson, both of Suffolk, Va., Mrs. Ruth D. Shan of East Marion, Long Island, N.Y., and Mrs. Burnell R. Riddle of Titusville, Fla.; a brother, Mr. John T. Rabey of Hyattsville, Md.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Louise D. Wilson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Daisy F. Allred
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Daisy Farmer Allred, 88, of Alamance Skilled Nursing Division, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, June 29, 1998, at her home after a critical illness of one week.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Everett Julian Allred, and the daughter of Mr. David Farmer and Mrs. Sarah Allred Farmer, both deceased. She was a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the True Blue Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Don C. Allred and Mr. David Allred Sr., both of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Tickle of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Riley Farmer of Julian; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Farmer Moffitt and Mrs. Mary Farmer Perry; three brothers, Mr. Clyde Farmer, Mr. Banks Farmer and Mr. James Farmer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 10 to 10:45 Thursday morning, and at other times at the home of the sons, Mr. Don Allred, 2712 Amherst Ave., Burlington, and Mr. David Allred Sr., 409 Engelman Ave., Burlington.

Mr. Lawrence Faulkner
SNOW CAMP - Mr. Lawrence F. Faulkner, 81, of 6760 Coble Mill Road, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 29, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Allene M. Faulkner, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Willie George Faulkner and Mrs. Roxie Long Faulkner, both deceased. He was a retired foremen of Liberty Hosiery Mill. He was a member of Rock Creek United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for several years and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Wally (Donna) F. Culbreth of Greensboro; three sons, Mr. Glenwood Faulkner of Snow Camp, Mr. Bobby Faulkner of Winston-Salem and Mr. Harold Faulkner of Thomasville; three sisters, Mrs. Violet Albright and Mrs. Yvonne Lassiter, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Ava Taylor of Graham; five brothers, Mr. Donald Faulkner, Mr. Elmo Faulkner and Mr. H.W. Faulkner, all of Burlington, Mr. Earl Faulkner of Graham and Mr. Dace Faulkner of Haw River; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lillian Carey.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Creek United Methodist Church by the Rev. Nancy Sturdivant, pastor, and the Rev. Alvin Horne, pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church. MEBANE - Mrs. Cleatie Richmond Hooker of 471 Wade Hooker Road, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at her home.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Wade Hooker, and the daughter of Mr. Willie Richmond and Mrs. Josephine Miles Richmond, both deceased. She was a retired farmer and domestic engineer. She was a member of Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Ms. Mary H. Stewart, Ms. Lizzie B. Hooker and Ms. Dorothy H. Womack, all of Mebane, and Ms. Juanita H. Bigelow and Ms. Mildred H. Whitfield, both of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Mr. Willie M. Hooker, Mr. Robert J. Hooker and Mr. Joe L. Hooker, all of Mebane; a sister, Ms. Roena R. Stephens of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Ivey Richmond of Mebane; 24 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Elmer R. Ennis
STAFFORD, Va. - Mr. Elmer R. Ennis, 70, of Stafford, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
Born June 6, 1928, in Stafford, he was the son of Mr. Elmer A. Ennis Sr. and Mrs. Martha Anne Bryant, both deceased. He was a retired construction worker and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Lisa Gibson of Stafford; a son, Mr. Richard Donovan of Spotsylvania, Va.; three stepdaughters, Ms. Kathy Breeden and Ms. Donna Demoulin, both of Stafford and Ms. Patricia Parsels of Georgia; three brothers, Mr. Woodrow Ennis and Mr. Franklin Lee Ennis, both of Stafford, and Mr. Elmer A. Ennis III of Fredericksburg, Va.; five sisters, Ms. Gladys Spindle, Ms. Susie Decatur and Ms. Ruby Griffis, all of Stafford, Ms. Ruth Ballard of Graham and Ms. Edna James of Charleston; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mullins and Thompson, Stafford Chapel. Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery.
Mrs. Dorothy H. Wade
ROXBORO - Mrs. Dorothy Helms Wade, 65, of Roxboro died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 14, 1932, in North Carolina, she was the wife of the late Mr. Ivan "Rip" Wade, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Helms and Mrs. Annie Huskin Helms, both deceased.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Terry V. Mull of Roxboro; a stepdaughter, Ms. Lori Jones of Sedona, Ariz.; a stepson, Mr. Mark Wade of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Ms. Thelma Cable of Elon College, and Ms. Minnie Guthrie of Morganton; and three brothers, Mr. John Helms and Mr. Wilford Helms, both of Morganton, and Mr. Jeff Helms of Drexel.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Brooks and White Chapel by the Rev. Grayce M.W. O'Neill. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. George L. Stone
GRAHAM - Mr. George Lewis Stone, 88, of 465 Stone Road, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his home after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Georgia Jenkins Stone, who survives, and the son of Mr. Lonnie Stone and Mrs. Eular White Stone, both deceased. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Maxwell’s Chapel AME Church, where he had served as a member of the Steward Board and the Trustee Board, as a class leader and was a member of the Senior Choir.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a foster daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Boyd of Burlington; a foster son, Mr. Frank Bynum of Burlington; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Atwater, Mrs. Evelyn McRae, Mrs. Ruth Alston, Mrs. Hilda Enoch and Mrs. Hazel Alston, all of Graham; and a brother, Mr. James Stone of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maxwell’s Chapel AME Church by the Rev. Paul Rigsbee, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Evelyn Neighbours
MEBANE - Mrs. Evelyn Merle Kerley Neighbours, 73, of 2246-1B Farrell Road, died at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at her home after nine months of failing health, two weeks critical.
Born April 24, 1925, in Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. Oscar C. Neighbours, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. James Franklin Kerley and Mrs. Lillie Moon Kerley, both deceased. She was retired from A.O. Smith Co. of Mebane and was a member of Grace Methodist Church of Burlington.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Linda K. Kirby of Cedar Grove and Mrs. Cathy M. Rice and Mrs. Gail N. Wilson, both of Mebane; a son, Mr. Bryce A. Neighbours of Mebane; three sisters, Mrs. Grace K. Carden, Mrs. Edna K. Terrell and Mrs. Elaine K. Dodson, all of Mebane; two brothers, Mr. Aubrey Kerley of Hopewell, Va., and Mr. Jimmy Kerley of Mebane; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Jay Kennett, hospice chaplain. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son, 6003 Lebanon Road, Mebane.
