Mrs. Althea M. Smith
WHITSETT - Mrs. Althea M. Smith, of 942 Boone Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Charles Baxter Smith Jr., who survives. She was a retired domestic technician and was a member of Union Grove Congregational Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three sons, Mr. Clinton Smith Sr. of Whitsett, Mr. Charles B. Smith III of Lithonia, Ga., and Mr. Reginald Smith of Greensboro; four daughters, Ms. Carol Jean Smith, Ms. Patsy Lee Smith and Ms. Michelle Smith, all of Greensboro, and Ms. Sheila Smith-Givens of Rosamond, Calif.; two brothers, Mr. John W. Miles Sr. of Elon College and Mr. Manley Miles of Burlington; two sisters, Ms. Martha Gant of Elon College and Ms. Ella Crompton of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Shelton Johnson.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. Aubrey Dalton Jr.
GRAHAM - Mr. Aubrey Edward “Eddie” Dalton Jr., 45, of 1256 N. Jim Minor Road, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a critical illness of 10 days.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Deborah Stallings Dalton, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Virginia Bane Dalton, who survives, and the late Mr. Aubrey Edward Dalton Sr. He was employed by Overman Building Supply.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Graham include a daughter, Miss Misty Dalton of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. David (Joyce) Andrews of Graham and Mrs. Ronnie (Jan) Welborn of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. Phillip Melvin Dalton of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by Mr. John Cobb. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mr. Alfonzo Holman
BOSTON - Mr. Alfonzo Holman, 51, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Boston Medical Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1947, in Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Porcia Holman, who survives, and the son of Mr. Vernon Charles and Mrs. Iola Charles, who both survive.
Survivors other than his wife of Boston and parents of Durham include two sons, Mr. Alfonzo Holman Jr. and Mr. Kenneth Holman, both of Boston; a stepson, Mr. Tony Smith of Boston; three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Richardson of Elon College, Ms. Diane Pounds and Mrs. Linnette Allison, both of Durham; two brothers, Mr. Kenneth Pounds of Boston and Mr. George Pounds of Chapel Hill; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gaines Chapel AME Church in Efland by the Rev. Charles Blaylock. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Gaines Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. James W. Parker
MEBANE - Mr. James Wilson Parker, 54, of 66 Hooper Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Patricia Dixon Parker, and the son of Mr. Clay Parker and Mrs. Wythene Chambers Parker, who both survive. He was a farmer and a member of the Sweet Gum Hunting Club and the Pleasant Grove Hunting Club. He was a member of Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and parents of Mebane include a daughter, Ms. Arletter Yvette Parker of Mebane; a son, Mr. Dirus “Thumper” Dixon of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Clay “Bubble” Parker Jr. and Mr. Tommie “Tuck” Parker, both of Mebane; and two sisters, Ms. Peggy E. Parker of Burlington and Mrs. El’Marie Parker Brodie of Wake Forest.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Carwell L. Parker and Mr. Larry R. Parker.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Blackwell Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening.
Mr. John C. Baker
MEBANE - Mr. John Calvin Baker, 97, of 601 N. Ninth St., died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1901, in Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Abbielee King Baker and the son of Mr. Lewis Baker and Ms. Nannie Warren Baker, both deceased. He was retired from Kingsdown Manufacturing and was a member of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. John Abner Baker and Mr. Ralph Curry Baker, both of Burlington, Mr. Bernice Lewis Baker of Mebane and Mr. Sidney Eugene Baker of Ridgeway, Va.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Church by Elder Wallis Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Walker’s Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Lenora M. Pass, of 538 Main St., Old Farm Apartment 5B, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Nannie P. Hall
REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Nannie Page Hall, 91, of 10868 Cherry Grove Road, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Shirlene Reid.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Charles L. Hall and the daughter of Mr. John Shreves Page and Mrs. Lou Simpson Page, both deceased. She was co-owner of Hall’s Grocery in Caswell County and was a homemaker. She was a Primitive Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Shirlene) Reid of Gibsonville and Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Bondurant of Reidsville; two sons, the Rev. Melvin C. Hall of Wilmington and Mr. Forrest Hall of Martinsville, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Helen French of Reidsville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step grandchildren; and five great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Garland Hall; two sisters, Ms. Alice Cochran and Ms. Eva Medford; and two brothers, Mr. Bill Page and the Rev. Ernest Page.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Loftis, Elder Wallis Smith and Dr. James Gardner. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Henry K. Perry
CHAPEL HILL - Mr. Henry Kiah “Hank” Perry, 67, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at his home.
Born Jan. 5, 1932, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sylvia Dismuke Perry, who survives, and the son of Mr. Harry Burgwyn Perry and Mrs. Notie Webster Perry, both deceased. He was a land developer and attended University United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife include three sons, Mr. Michael K. Perry of Wake Forest, Mr. Scott Perry of Raleigh and Mr. Todd B. Perry of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at University United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ann N. Mitchell
RALEIGH - Mrs. Ann Nahale Mitchell, 72, formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale.
Born in Kona, Hawaii, in 1926, she was the wife for 38 years to the late Mr. Joseph Edwin Mitchell.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Betty Jane Nahale Beamer of Kamuela, Hawaii; a son, Mr. Rick Mitchell of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9 this evening.
Mr. Richard H. Behrman
CHAPEL HILL - Mr. Richard H. Behrman, 71, died Thursday morning, Jan. 21, 1999, at Triangle Hospice in Hillsborough.
He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Behrman, who survives. He grew up in New Rochelle, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Liggett Group as a corporate director of marketing. He taught at Meredith College and was associate professor in the business department. He was also the director of the MBA Program at Elon College and retired as the interim dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon College. He was an elder at the University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill.
Survivors other than his wife of Chapel Hill include three daughters, Ms. Barbara Dan of Omaha, Neb., Ms. Margaret Payne of Greensboro and Ms. Dorothea Hyde of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. James W. Smith
BURLINGTON - Mr. James W. “Wilson” Smith, 69, of 2744 Westchester Drive, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dell Jolly Smith, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Gladys Mercer Smith, who survives, and the late Mr. Willie F. Smith. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Co. and worked with the city of Burlington Recreation and Parks Department. He was a member of the Rams Club Educational Foundation of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as an usher at the Dean Smith Center and Kenan Stadium on the UNC-CH campus. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River, where he served as a Deacon.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Burlington include a daughter, Mrs. James W. (Dawn) Westmoreland of McLeansville; a son, Mr. Shawn Smith of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Betty Umberger of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Billy G. Smith of Walkertown; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Larry Thompson. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
