Mr. George Steagall
EDEN - Mr. George “Ted” Wade Steagall, 70, formerly of 1607 Ridge Ave., died at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Rockingham County, he had lived for the last four years at Pell Care Nursing Center in Walkertown. He was retired from Boston Cleaners in Burlington and was affiliated with First Baptist Church of Draper.
Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Beth Duncan of Greensboro, Ms. Martha Bergen of Hannibal, Mo., and Ms. Susan Rickman of Newport; a sister, Ms. Ann Stophel of Eden; five brothers, Mr. Robert “Bob” Steagall of Clemmons, Mr. Cody Steagall and Mr. Tommy Steagall, both of Eden, Mr. Barry Steagall of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mr. Roger Steagall of Reidsville; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Mildred Reitzel
LIBERTY - Mrs. Mildred Campbell Reitzel, 73, of 5539 Lot 1, Liberty Grove Road, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at her home.
A native of Randolph County, she was the wife of the late Mr. R.D. Reitzel. She was a homemaker and a member of Smithwood United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mary Alice Radford of Anchorage, Alaska; and a brother, Mr. Glenn D. Campbell Sr. of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Jean Yates and Mrs. Barbara Holder; and two brothers, Mr. John D. Campbell Jr. and Mr. James H. Campbell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smithwood United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty from 7 to 9 Monday evening.

Mrs. Irene M. Hall
GRAHAM - Mrs. Irene Moorefield Hall, 59, of 1308 Rayon St., Burlington, died at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Namon Albert Hall and the daughter of Mr. Walter Columbus Moorefield and Mrs. Emma Jane Bowmon Moorefield, both deceased. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Donald Hall of the home, Mr. Robert Vestal of Kissimmee, Fla., and Mr. David Vestal of Burlington; three brothers, Mr. Wayne Moorefield, Mr. Monroe Moorefield and Mr. Albert Moorefield, all of Burlington; five grandchilren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Wilma Bolick; and a brother, Mr. James Moorefield.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Roberta H. Douglas
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Roberta Holsonback Douglas, 84, of Haw River died at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of one week.
A native of Durham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. E. Clay Douglas Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Paul Holsonback and Mrs. Lilly Mae Roberts Holsonback, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Durham County.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Doris Douglas and Ms. Jan Hensley, both of Burlington; two sons, Mr. E. Clay Douglas Jr. of the home and Mr. H. Gene Douglas of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Nan Perreira of Greensboro and Mrs. Jo Ann Latham of Graham; three brothers, Mr. James L. Holsonback, Mr. Calvin A. Holsonback and Mr. Jack F. Holsonback, all of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Edna Thompson and Mrs. Mary Cook.
The body was donated to the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
The families will be at their homes.

Mrs. Louise B. Pickett
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Louise Beckom Pickett, 80, of 1543 Shadylawn Drive, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at her home after five years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. James O. Pickett, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Clarence Beckom and Mrs. Ester Baldwin Beckom, both deceased. She was a buyer and sales representative for Sellars Department Store and was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sons, Mr. Jack Pickett of Greensboro and Mr. Jim Pickett of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Edith Beckom Moore of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Harold Beckom.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Powell Sykes, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1126 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mr. James L. Sykes
MYRTLE POINT, Ore. - Mr. James L. “Geno” Sykes, 61, of Myrtle Point, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home after an illness of two years.
Born Feb. 27, 1937, in Dickenson County, Va., he was the husband for 36 years to Mrs. Luisa Gonzales Sykes, who survives, and the son of Mr. Clarence Sykes, who survives, and the late Mrs. Easter Sykes. He grew up in Burlington and served four years with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Truckee. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Saudi Arabia and was discharged from the Air Force at Travis Air Force Base. He continued to work as a civilian with the Air Force with the special cargo handlers. He was a Catholic.
Survivors other than his wife of Myrtle Point and father of Burlington include four sons, Mr. James L. “Jamie” Sykes of Myrtle Point, Mr. Daniel Brice Sykes of Lake Oswego, Ore., Mr. Mark Sykes of Portland, Ore., and Mr. Matthew Sykes of Coquille, Ore.; a daughter Mrs. Julie Ann Walton of Coos Bay, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Bill (Loretta) Thomas of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Eddy Sykes of Wood Bridge, Va., and Mr. Ralph Sykes of Burlington; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Feb. 18 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coquille by the Rev. John McGuire.
Memorials may be made to South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, Ore., 97420; or to the American Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving, Suite 100, Portland, Ore., 97232.
Amling/Schroeder Funeral Service, Myrtle Point Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clarence Hensley
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mr. Clarence J. Hensley, 73, of 8546 Harmon Drive, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Mildred Fisher Hensley, who survives, and the son of Mr. Milton Hensley and Mrs. Ceclia Randolph Hensley, both deceased. He was retired from Associated Transport in Burlington and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife include four daughters, Ms. Karen McCauley of Charleston, S.C., Ms. June Armstrong of Haw River, and Ms. Annette Scoggins and Ms. Steva Jones, both of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Ms. Barbara Halyburton of Houston and Ms. Ruby Lister of Spartanburg; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel by the Rev. Odus Stacy. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the chapel 30 minutes before the service.

Mrs. Lillie V. Blackwell
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lillie Vincent Blackwell, 90, 323 Baldwin Road, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Aary Graves and the late Mr. Lonnie Blackwell. She was the daughter of Mr. Clarence Vincent and Mrs. Susan Piles Vincent, both deceased. She was a member of Stoney Creek AME Church, and had served as a member of the Senior Choir, the missionary department, as treasurer of the Sunday School, member of the Board of Stewards and as Mother of the church. The Missionary Department was named “The Lillie Blackwell Missionary Society.”
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Newman of Durham and Mrs. Joan Carolyn Finley of Roxboro; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Pearlie Walker Roundtree and Mrs. Dora Watson, both of Durham; three stepsons, Mr. Willie Blackwell, Mr. Walter Blackwell and Mr. Charles Blackwell, all of Durham; two sisters, Ms. Ruth Warren of Greensboro and Mrs. Eula Sellars of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. Junior Vincent, Mr. James Vincent and Mr. Samuel Vincent, all of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mrs. Ella Hurdle Parker, Mrs. Hattie Shaw, Mrs. Lottie Turner, Mrs. Wyomia Holt, Mrs. Fannie Roberson, Mrs. Lucille Patterson and Mrs. Blanche Vincent; and five brothers, Mr. Joseph Vincent, Mr. Garland Vincent, Mr. Tommy Vincent, Mr. George Vincent and Mr. Lonnie Vincent.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesdya at Stoney Creek AME Church. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Junious Sellars, 3132 N.C. 87 North, Altamahaw.

Mrs. Marzella S. Young
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Marzella Sims Young, 65, of 627 N. Church St., died at 6:18 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Newbury County, S.C., she was the wife of the late Mr. Hubert Young, and the daughter of Mr. Taylor Sims and Mrs. Ida Mae Foster Sims, both deceased. She was a member of New Beginners Church of Whitsett.
Survivors include a foster son, Mr. Paul Harris of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Belle Neely of Thomasville, Mrs. Hattie Belle Washington and Mrs. Evelyn Sims, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. Ruth S. Collins of Elon College; two brothers, Mr. William Sims of Whitmire, S.C., and Mr. Reuben Sims of New York.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Beginners Church by Ms. Emma Terrell, pastor, and Mr. Veicio Warren, minister. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 5:30 to 6:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Ruth S. Collins, 664 Manning Ave., Elon College.

Miss Elizabeth Fleuren
GREENWICH, Conn. - Miss Elizabeth Ellen “Liz” Fleuren, 22, a lifetime resident of Greenwich, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Royal Brompton and Harefield Trust Hospital in London, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1977, in Greenwich, she was the daughter of Mrs. Daryl Byrne Fleuren and Mr. Jeffrey E. Fleuren, who both survive. She attended Elon College, where she served as an officer in her sorority, Phi Mu, as a tour guide for the college admissions department and was a human service major. She served as a teaching assistant, after-school tutor and served three internships off-campus with Family Abuse Services of Burlington, the Burlington Police Department Youth Division and Community Centers Inc. of Greenwich. She was to have graduated in May and was in London taking a fine arts course during Elon’s winter term.
Survivors other than her parents of Southbury include a sister, Ms. Ann C. Fleuren of Greenwich; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Doris Byrne of Greenwich and Mr. Arthur Byrne of Del Ray Beach, Fla.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich.
The family will be at Fred D. Knapp and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich from 6 to 9 Wednesday evening.
Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 60 E. 42nd St., New York, N.Y., 10165-1563.

Mrs. Florence S. Hooper
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Florence Shelton Hooper, 67, of 45 County Home Road, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Charles H. Hooper, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. William Brown Shelton and Mrs. Ethel Poteat Shelton, both deceased. She grew up in the Prospect Church community and was pianist for a number of years at Prospect United Methodist Church. She was a member of Yanceyville United Methodist Church. She was employed by the Yanceyville Sanitary Distinct and was a contracting agent and branch manager with the North Carolina License Plate Bureau for 33 years. She retired from the Yanceyville Sanitary district in 1986 and the License Plate Bureau in 1995 She was a volunteer for the Caswell County Civic Center.
Survivors other than her husband include two sons, Mr. William Charles “Chuck” Hooper of Yanceyville and Mr. Michael Writchie “Mike” Hooper of Providence; three sisters, Ms. Ola S. Willis and Ms. Helen S. Stainback, both of West Yanceyville, and Ms. Martha S. Taylor of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Yanceyville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Vasser Jones and the Rev. George Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Yanceyville United Methodist Church, c/o Mr. Tommy Davis, P.O. Box 1108, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379-1108.
