Mrs. Ruth P. Brown
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Ruth Phillippe Brown, 88, of 429 Peeden Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro after two years of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. William Benjamin Brown who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Soloman Elijah Phillippe and Mrs. Martha Coble Phillippe, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Twin Oaks Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Simmons of Whitsett, Mrs. Linda Blue of Gibsonville and Mrs. Martha Ellen of McLeansville; three sons, Mr. Bernard Brown of Burlington, Mr. Garry Brown of the home and Mr. William Brown of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Twin Oaks Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Tommy Scronce, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home.

Mrs. Gladys Staunton
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Gladys Davis Staunton, 92, of 1947 Lower Hopedale Road, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Person County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Maurice Robert Staunton, and the daughter of Mr. William Hugh Davis and Mrs. Novella Clayton Davis, both deceased. She was retired from Belk’s Department Store, and was a member of City Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Edith Ivey and Mrs. Edna Copeland, both of Graham, Mrs. Marie Hill and Mrs. Dottie Lewis, both of Burlington; one son, Mr. Larry Staunton of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Texie Vaughn, Ms. Evie Whitt and Ms. Maggie Vaughn; and five brothers, Mr. Hudie Davis, Mr. Lacy Davis, Mr. Coy Davis, Mr. Lester Davis and Mr. Lennie Davis.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Fred M. Madren Jr., pastor of City Lake Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe funeral home from noon to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edna Copeland, 912 Dogwood Lane, Graham, N.C. 27253.
Mr. Percy H.A. Pritchett
BURLINGTON - Mr. Percy H.A. Pritchett, 76, of White Oak Manor, died Feb. 19, 1999.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at North Lawn Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Burrus and Burrus Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will be at 1224 Thomas Ave., Burlington.
Mr. Melvin R. Simpson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Melvin R. Simpson, 71, of Greensboro, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Mr. Merton Simpson and Mrs. Regina Simpson, both deceased. He was a charter member of Hunter Hills Baptist Church, the Boaz Sunday School Class, a member of the Golden Agers and the church choir.
Survivors include three sisters, Ms. Ona Williams of Burlington, Ms. Joy B. Simpson and Ms. Dorothy Simpson, both of the home; and two brothers, Mr. Ervin Simpson and Mr. Earl Simpson, both of Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Beulah Simpson and Ms. Dorris Jarrett; and a brother, Mr. Vance Simpson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Margaret Patchell
RALEIGH - Mrs. Margaret Lillington Graves Patchell, 84, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Raleigh Community Hospital. She was a former resident of the Burlington area.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Burr Edward Patchell, and the daughter of Mr. Felix Williamson Graves and Mrs. Mary Williams Clark Graves, both deceased. She was the owner of Patchell Enterprises.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Mary Belle Patchell of Mebane; a son, Mr. Edward Burr Patchell of Garner; two sisters, Ms. Mary G. “Cindy” King and Mrs. Elizabeth Graves Spence, both of Raleigh; two brothers, Mr. Edward Thorne Graves of Alton, Va., and Mr. William Graves II of Pawleys Island, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Raleigh. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will be at the church following the service.

Mr. Bryan E. Holt
GRAHAM - Mr. Bryan Eugene Holt, 62, of 502 Wentworth Drive, died at 2 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at home after three years of failing health.
Born Feb. 7, 1937 in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Hilda Gray Holt who died March 12, 1997. He was the son of Mrs. Eleene Lassiter Holt of Mebane and Mr. Melvin Y. Holt of Burlington. He was retired from AT&T with 33 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Mebane.
Survivors other than his mother and his father include two sons, Mr. Stephen B. Holt of Graham and Mr. Jeffrey M. Holt of Burlington; stepmother, Mrs. Kathleen Johnson Holt of Burlington; one brother, Mr. David Y. Holt of Mebane; two grandchildren; several stepchildren and several step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood cemetery by Dr. Terry Farmer.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Service of Mebane from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, and at other times, at the home of his mother, 403 Circle Drive, Mebane.

PAHRUMP, Nev. - Mrs. Cornelia “Jenny” Lynch Aydt, 76, of 480 Belville, died at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas.

Mr. William T. Leath
BALTIMORE - Mr. William T. Leath, 70, of 716 Waters Towers, died Feb. 18, 1999 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. John Arthur Leath and Mrs. Hattie Graves Leath, both deceased. He was employed in a steel mill in Sandusky, Ohio, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Baltimore.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Justin Leath of Baltimore; two daughters, Ms. Phillis Leath and Ms. Sharon Leath, both of Baltimore; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Crisp and Ms. Clastene Leath, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Katie Vaughn of Baltimore; one brother, Mr. Jimmy Leath of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Paul Milton, pastor of Union Memorial Church in Greensboro. Burial will be in Union Chapel United Church of Christ cemetery in Burlington.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 1:15 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral., and at other times, at the home of Ms. Clastene Leath.
Mrs. Hazel Hightower
MEBANE - Mrs. Lula Hazel Miles Hightower, 69, of 3519 Dickey Mill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Roy Hightower and the daughter of Mr. John David Miles and Mrs. Annie Chavis Miles, both deceased. She was a retired schoolteacher and was a member of the National Education Association (NEA), North Carolina Education Association (NCEA), the N.C. Retirement System, Alamance County Teachers Association, N.C. Reading Association, International Reading Association and the NAACP. She was a member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Ms. Renee Carlson of Mebane; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Miles Love of Mebane and Mrs. Carolyn Miles Evans of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Joe David Miles Jr. of Green Level; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Hurst, pastor, the Rev. Rainey Enoch and Bishop Harry Cohen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hilda Andrews Teer
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hilda Andrews Teer, 67, of 704 Lakeside Ave., died at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after four years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. William H. “Bill” Teer, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Bruce Andrews Sr. and Mrs. Mary Magdalene Lowe Andrews, both deceased. She was retired from Brown-Wooten Mills after 30 years of service. She was a member of Zion Christian Church and attended Carolina Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Penny Teer Wilson of Burlington; three sons, Mr. William Kemp Teer, Mr. Terry Lynn Teer and Mr. Thomas Bryant Teer, all of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Minor of Melbourne, Fla., and Mrs. Janice Somerset and Mrs. Edna Hall, both of Burlington; four brothers, Mr. Bruce Andrews Jr. of Ruffin, and Mr. Richard Andrews, Mr. Carl Andrews and Mr. Howard Andrews, all of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Marian Willard and Miss Betty June Andrews; and one brother, Mr. Jerry Lynn Andrews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carolina Christian Church by the Rev. Chris Gibson, pastor, and the Rev. Tim Stevens, pastor of Whitsett Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Betty G. Jones Barr
WILMINGTON - Mrs. Betty G. Jones Barr, 76, of 5005 Trailing Vine Lane, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center.
Born Dec. 2, 1924, in Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. William D. Barr, who survives, and the late Mr. Robert L. “Bobby” Jones. She was the daughter of Mr. James Dover Gerringer and Mrs. Lillian Estelle Pritchard Gerringer, both deceased. She was a retired bookkeeper of A&P Tea Co., and was a member of Harbor United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 10.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Ms. Sandra J. King of Burlington, Ms. Debbie J. Leigh of Gibsonville and Ms. Anne B. Lewis of Wilmington; a son, Mr. Michael D. Barr of Raleigh; three sisters, Ms. Kathleen Warren of Morehead City, Ms. Opal Stanley of Burlington and Ms. Maxine Crisco of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Ellen Jones Foust.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel, in Wilmington by the Rev. D. Ray Warren. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Alamance Memorial Gardens in Burlington.

Mr. Roger B. Morris
BURLINGTON - Mr. Roger B. Morris, 93, of 343 Baldwin Road, Apt. D-2-2, died at 1:17 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Wayne County, Ky., he was the husband of Mrs. Ann Morris, who survives, and the son of Mr. D. Buchanan Morris and Mrs. Margaret Shearer Morris, both deceased. He was a retired school teacher and was part owner of Alamance Builders. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, a bridge club member, former member of the Burlington City Council and the Alamance County Senior’s Golf Association.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Morris Barbour.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
