Mrs. Josie Woody Glenn
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Josie Woody Glenn, 91, of 755 Martin Ave., Graham, died at 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at her home after two years of failing health, two weeks critical. She was a former resident of Georgia Avenue in Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Obie Walton Glenn, and the daughter of Mr. John Fernando Woody and Mrs. Lona Ann Cheek Woody, both deceased. She was a retired supervisor with 47 years of service at Kayser-Roth Hosiery. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church, the Susan Ann Wesley Sunday School Class and the Betty Campbell Circle. She was a volunteer at Alamance County Hospital for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty Glenn Willoughby of Graham; four sisters, Mrs. Eula Braxton of Mocksville, Mrs. Edith Fain of Greensboro, Mrs. Bonnie Braxton of Snow Camp and Mrs. Mettie Payne of Graham; a brother, Mr. Thomas D. “Tom” Woody of Snow Camp; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Nall and Mrs. Margaret Johnson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Michael Hobbs and Dr. Joy MacVane. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Betty Gentry Wrenn
ROXBORO - Mrs. Betty Gentry Wrenn, 73, of 1825 Virgilina Road, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Jamestown, she was the wife of Mr. Archie Wrenn, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. John M. Gentry and Mrs. Mable Whitt Gentry, both deceased. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Ladies No. 3 Sunday School Class and chairwoman of the Bible study group.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Gail W. (Steve) Troutman of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Mel (Kathy) Wrenn and Mr. Mat (Denise) Wrenn, both of Roxboro; two sisters, Ms. Hazel C. Niven of Raeford and Ms. Almeade G. Garrett of Roxboro; a brother, Mr. Bobby Gentry of Raeford; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis McDonald.
The family will be at Brooks and White Funeral Home in Roxboro from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Edgar “Edd” Wilson McKinney, 87, of 3426 N.C. 62 North, died at 1:25 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at the home of his daughter in Gaithersburg, Md. after a terminal illness of several months.

Miss Regina Blanche Cobb
CONCORD - Miss Regina Blanche Cobb, of Concord, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Concord.
Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. John D.F. Cobb and Mrs. Blanche Summers Cobb, both deceased. She was a graduate of Gibsonville High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She trained at the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton. She began her teaching career at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, Tenn., where she retired after more than 40 years of service. She was a supervising teacher with the Alabama School System in Talladega, Ala., and the South Carolina School System in Spartanburg, S.C. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1969 by the Knoxville Anchor Club. The Regina Cobb Traveling Cheer Leaders Trophy was established by the Mason Dixon Athletic Conference and first presented in 1979. In 1999, after 20 years of retirement, she made the presentation of the trophy at the annual Mason Dixon Tournament.
She was a life member of Friedens Lutheran Church, where she was teacher of the Regina Cobb Bible Study Class, president of the Women of the Church and was a lay leader. She was a member of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, The Keen Agers Club, Friends of Rose Garden Club of Gibsonville and the Smokey Mountain Manuscript Club.
Survivors include a sister, Ms. Anna Lois Cobb Bulla of Concord.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Friedens Lutheran Church in Gibsonville by the Rev. Richard Rhoades. Burial will be in the family plot of the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jane Rowland Miller Hopkins, 63, of 544 Beaumont Ave., died at 7:22 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro after a long illness.
A native of Davidson County, she was the wife of Mr. Andrew Samuel Hopkins Sr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Luther E. Miller and Mrs. Emma R. Miller, both deceased. She was a homemaker and was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Brantley of Bailey and Miss Leter Jane Hopkins of Stumpy Point; a son, Mr. Andrew Samuel “Drew” Hopkins Jr. of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Frank L. Miller of Wilson; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Front Street United Methodist Church by Dr. William C. Simpson. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Clara Blanche Walden Wilson
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Clara Blanche Walden Wilson, 87, of 2849 Clifford Ray Road, died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James Woodrow Wilson, and the daughter of Mr. General Walden and Mrs. Ada Manus Walden, both deceased. She was retired from Alexander Wilson School cafeteria department.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jean Burnett of Graham; and a son, Mr. Clarence Walden McDaniel of Bridgeport, Conn.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Danny Williams, pastor of Melfield United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Phillip’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel one hour before the service, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Sherwood H. Benson
GRAHAM - Mr. Sherwood Herman Benson, 76, of 206 Aloha Drive, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home after 15 months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Johnston County, he was the husband of Mrs. Pansy J. Benson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Herman Benson and Mrs. Lizzy Adams Benson, both deceased. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was retired from Western Electric as a technician. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Deborah B. Thayer of Moore, Okla.; two sons, Mr. Ronald Earl Benson of Knightdale and Mr. Richard Edward Benson of Graham; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Joy C. Joyner of Graham; a stepson, Mr. James L. Clemmons of Greensboro; a sister, Mrs. Janie B. Canady of Clayton; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Lynda B. Magrini; a son, Mr. Donald Sherwood Benson; a sister, Mrs. Louise Mills; and four brothers, Mr. Aubrey Benson, Mr. Hocutt Benson, Mr. Lee Benson and Mr. Horace Benson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Chapel in Graham by the Rev. David Jackson, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, and the Rev. Randy Majors. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

LIBERTY - Mr. Royzell Bailey, 79, of 2158 Ramseur-Julian Road, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Belle Bailey, who survives. He attended Richland Gospel Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Shirley Duncan of the home; two sons, Mr. Leroy Bailey and Mr. George Bailey, both of Liberty; two sisters, Ms. Ruby Smith and Ms. Louise Layton, both of Liberty; two brothers, Mr. J.W. Bailey and Mr. Jerry Davis Bailey, both of Liberty; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Marie Salmons Conklin
INDIAN TRAIL - Ms. Marie Salmons Conklin, 36, of 5904 Crosswinds Court, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Union Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. James Vernon Salmons and Mrs. Betty Murray Salmons, both deceased. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Cathy (Tommy) Mooneyham of Elon College, Mrs. Janet (Steve) Stressman of Fort Richardson, Alaska, Mrs. Susan (Darryl) Allen of Baltimore, Mrs. Angela (Tim) Hunter of Indian Trail and Mrs. Natalie (Tommy) Byrd of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Jimmy (Dianne) Salmons and Mr. James Vernon (Sarah) Salmons II, both of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. C. Max Allman, pastor of Peoples Memorial Christian Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Virginia Mobley Gaines
GREENSBORO - Mrs. Virginia Mobley Gaines, 76, of Greensboro, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Beacon Place.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Robert Lee Gaines, and was a member of Hunter Hills Baptist Church and was a welcome visitor at Shining Light Baptist Church. She was a former employee at Cone Mills Revolution Plant.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Brenda (Billy) Collins of Greensboro; a son, Mr. Charles F. (June) Gaines of Greensboro; an adopted daughter, Ms. Becky Conklin of Greensboro; two sisters, Ms. Nellie Lewis and Ms. Margaret Paschal, both of Greensboro; and relatives in the Burlington area.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
