Mr. Jonah Nathan Thompson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Jonah “Papa” Nathan Thompson, 77, of 621-I Fairfax Drive, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 in his home after a long illness.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Helen Josephine Hester Thompson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Buck Thompson and Mrs. Magnolia Thompson, both deceased. He was a tobacco farmer and a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include five daughters, Ms. Joyce Jacobs and Mrs. Patricia (Hubert) Holman, both of Burlington, Ms. Nancy Thompson of Baltimore, Mrs. Carolyn (Hurley) Thompson of Green Level and Ms. Brenda Holt of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Ms. Isabel Thompson of Mebane and Ms. Emma Walker of Durham; a brother, Mr. Preston Thompson of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Wilson, pastor and the Rev. Nick Hopkins, eulogist. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Blackwell Funeral Home, Inc.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ester M. Winstead, 79, of 2697 White Oak Drive, died Dec. 3, 2000, at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance after a long illness.

GRAHAM - Mr. Edward Bonnell Cobb Jr., 30, of 2833 N.C. 87 South, No. 98, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 3, 2000.

Mrs. Esqurido Whitesell Chrismon
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Esqurido “Rita” Whitesell Chrismon, 71, of 400 Steele St., Apt. 5, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at her home after a sudden illness.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. James Franklin Chrismon Jr., who died in 1990. She was the daughter of Mr. Benjamin Ernest Whitesell Sr. and Mrs. Mamie Terry Whitesell, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington Industries. She was a member of Gibsonville Christian Churchand the Auditorium Bible Class.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Linda Terry of High Point; a son, Mr. Billy Ray Chrismon of Gibsonville; and two brothers, Mr. Benjamin “Bee” Ernest Whitesell Jr. and Mr. Fred Lee Whitesell, both of Gibsonville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Harvey “Buck” Whitesell.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gibsonville Christian Church by the Rev. Paul Morton, pastor, and the Rev. Jim Smyrl, pastor of Cross Creek Community Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before to the service. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son, Mr. Billy Chrismon, of 804 Ellen Drive, Gibsonville.

Mr. William Darrell Coppersmith
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. William Darrell “Bill” Coppersmith, 75, of 583 Main St., Apt. 8-E, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 4, 1925, in Lafayette, Ohio, he was the husband of Mrs. Kenova Hurst Coppersmith, who survives. He was the son of Mr. William David Coppersmith and Mrs. Mildred Leithe Cole Coppersmith, both deceased. Before his retirement due to disability, he was a piano technician and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Bobby Coppersmith of Florida and Mr. Phillip Coppersmith of Yanceyville; a daughter, Ms. Rebekah Wilson of Yanceyville; two sisters, Ms. Mildred Coppersmith and Ms. Hildred Bertucelli, both of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, N.C. 62 North, by Mr. John Ontko. Burial will be in the Farabow Family Cemetery.

SEMORA - Ms. Nannie Ann Graves, 54, of 168 Adams Road, Semora, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at her home after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Virginia McWhorter Rackley
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Virginia “Gin” McWhorter Rackley, 62, of 1809 Carolina Road, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at The Chase in Burlington, after an illness of six months.
A native of Guntersville, Ala., she was the wife of Mr. J. Norman Rackley Jr., who survives. She was the daughter of Mr. Gordon Douglas and Mrs. Myrtle Alexander Douglas, both deceased. She was a Methodist.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Miss Mary Jane McWhorter of Mebane and Mrs. Jane R. Wall and Mrs. Norma R. Long, both of Graham; two sons, Mr. Tommy McWhorter of Guntersville and Mr. Chip Rackley III of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington, by the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Diamond Cemetery, Beech Creek, Ala.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m.Wednesday, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Cornelia Melton Green
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Cornelia “Connie” Melton Green, 77, 2051 Hatchery Road, died at 7:27 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Hospice Home after one year of failing health, four weeks critical.
A native of Rockwell, she was the daughter of Mr. Lonnie Thomas Melton and Mrs. Lois Gaynell Walker Melton, both deceased. She was a retired employee of the United Way of Alamance County and served on the board of directors of Christmas Cheer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Green McCall of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Colleen Melton Newsome of Burlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. B.W. Melton.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Barry Raker. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home of the daughter, 304 Steelecrest Road, Graham.

Mrs. Golda Dean Lamb Hood
MEBANE - Mrs. Golda Dean Lamb Hood, 80, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Moorehead Nursing Center in Eden after more than two years of failing health. She was a former resident of Oakwood Apartments in Mebane.
A native of Clarksburg, W. Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. William Stutler Lamb, and the daughter of Mr. Harley Jackson Dean and Mrs. Rose Sturm Dean, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Burlington Assembly of God. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veteranas of Foreign Wars, and a former member of the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carol Lamb Maddux of Elon College and Ms. Patty Lamb Neese of Mebane; one sister, Mrs. Audrey Johnson of Clarksburg; one brother, Mr. John William Dean of Clarksburg; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Howard Thompson, Burlington Assembly of God. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Naples Memorial Gardens Chapel in Naples, Fla. By the Rev. Hal Wynn, pastor of Northside Baptist Church in North Fort Myers, Fla. Burial will be in Naples Memorial Gardens.
