Mrs. Edith Sensi Giampocaro
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Edith Sensi Giampocaro, 81, of 2828 Berkley Road, died at 10:27 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Ashland, W. Va., she was the wife of Mr. Victor Anthony Giampocaro Sr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Lougie Sensi and Mrs. Ersilia Allessi Sensi, both deceased. She was former co-owner and operator of a Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store, along with her husband. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a member of the Teresians, former officer of the Sacred Heart League of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Powhattan, W. Va.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Angela Giampocaro Yates of Mebane; one son, Mr. Victor Anthony Giampocaro Jr. of Mebane; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Enis Basconi and a brother, Mr. John Sensi.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Wedneday by the Rev. Briant Cullinane of Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Mebane. The Knights of Columbus will serve as Honor Guards.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Rachel Pearce Alford
RALEIGH - Mrs. Rachel Pearce Alford, 77, of 2300 Beechridge Road, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, after six years of failing health.
A native of Pilot in Franklin County, she was the wife of Mr. Floyd Shelby Alford for 54 years. She was the daughter of Mr. Clyde Pearce and Mrs. Corinna Pearce, both deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Beverly Alford of Burlington and Mrs. Annette Garvey of Greensboro; two brothers, Mr. James Pearce and Mr. David Pearce, both of Pilot; three sisters, Ms. Cherrie Averitt of Raleigh, Ms. Louise Griffin of Elizabeth City and Ms. Tcenie Wilder of Louisburg; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Floyd Alford Jr. and a sister, Ms. LaRue Hudgins.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2100 Noble Road, Raleigh.
The family will receive friends in the vestibule after the service and at other times at the home.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Alford-Upchurch cemetery in Pilot. Following the service, the family will receive friends in Pilot Baptist Church annex.

Mrs. Aubra Brown Whitesell
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Aubra Brown Whitesell, 97, of Greensboro, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Extended Care in Greensboro. She was a former resident of McIntyre Road in Gibsonville.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Conrad C. Whitesell. She was the daughter of Mr. Lemuel Augusters Brown and Mrs. Sallie A. Summers Brown, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Clifton R. Whitesell and Mr. Lloyd A. Whitesell, both of Gibsonville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Allen Myers, pastor; the Rev. J. Lester Stanley; and Mr. Jess Montlegudo. The body will be placed in the church at 4:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Loyd Whitesell, 2151 Colony Road, Gibsonville.

Mr. James Andrew Shelton
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Andrew Shelton, of 208 E. Fifth St., died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at the Hospice Home after nine years of failing health, two months critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Irene Paschal Jones Shelton, who survives, and the son of Mr. Warren Samuel Shelton and Mrs. Annie Whitsell Shelton, both deceased. He was a retired painter and a U.S. Marine veteran. He attended Burlington Assembly of God.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Jerry Shelton of Burlington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Janice Jones Mabe of Reidsville; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Revis of Asheboro and Mrs. Alice Loy of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Woodrow Shelton of Burlington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Laws; a stepson, Mr. Paul Jones; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Compton, Mrs. Alma Wrenn, Mrs. Mabel Lee and Mrs. Josephene Mitchell; and a brother, Mr. Luther Shelton.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Howard Thompon, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God, and the Rev. L.C. Troxler, associate pastor. Burial with full military honors will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Barnard Lochiel Burgess
SWANNANOA - Mr. Barnard Lochiel Burgess, 70, of Long Branch Road, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, after an illness of five and a half months.
A native of Snowden, he was the husband for 40 years of Mrs. Donna Dager Burgess, who survives, and the son of Mr. Francis M. Burgess and Mrs. Clara Barnard Burgess, both deceased. He entered the U.S. Air Force at 17 during the Korean War and served two separate tours of duty. He moved to Burlington in 1957. He received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Elon College and a master of library science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He worked as a librarian for Western Electric and AT&T for 30 years until his retirement. He attended Ireland Street Chapel and recently attended Asheville Gospel Chapel.
Survivors other than his wife include three daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Burgess Broaddrick and Mrs. Patricia Burgess Woodward, both of Black Mountain, and Mrs. Melissa Burgess Gorny of Swannanoa; two sons, Mr. Alan Hager Burgess of Leicester and Mr. Charles Barnard Burgess of Burlington; a sister, Ms. Flora Lee Powers of Chesapeake, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Brigman’s Funeral Service in Black Mountain by Mr. Stan Forester. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Lee Ayscue Hicks
HENDERSON - Mrs. Annie Lee Ayscue Hicks, 89, a former resident of the Cokesbury Community, died Wednesday morning, June 14, 2000, at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Albert Fenner Hicks and the daughter of Mr. William Henry Ayscue and Mrs. Ida Carroll Ayscue, both deceased. She was a member of Shocco United Methodist Church and the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
Survivors include a son, Mr. William T. “Bill” Hicks of Burlington; two daughters, Ms. Christine H. Dickerson of Henderson and Ms. Gladys H. Westbrook of Spartanburg, S.C.; four sisters, Ms. Gracie Abbott, Ms. Ovie Hicks, Ms. Ida Belle Mustian and Ms. Beatrice Thompson, all of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John M. Hackworth. Burial will be in Shocco United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. James Elmo Jones
McLEANSVILLE - Mr. James Elmo Jones, 78, of 160 Birch Creek Road, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born April 24, 1922, in Ashe County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Jones, who survives, and the son of Mr. Wade Jones and Mrs. Denton Young Jones, both deceased. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and was a World War II veteran. He was an original pathfinder paratrooper and completed four combat jumps. He served as a technical sergeant in the European Theater and received three Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Commune de Trois-Ponts and a Groesbeek Holland Medal. He was previously employed with Burlington Industries and retired from Fabrication Specialists, where he was president and owner.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Lynda Hall and Mrs. Cindi Khanlarin; two stepdaughters, Ms. Anita Bradshaw and Mrs. Jennifer Fagan; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Emma Jones Stanley; and three brothers, Mr. Wade Jones Jr., Mr. Hunter Jones and Mr. T. Gilmer Jones.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Allred and the Rev. Jim Auman. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens.

SNOW CAMP - Mr. Jim H. Murray, 80, of 3434 Spanish Oak Hill Road, died Tuesday evening, June 13, 2000, at his home after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mabel Euliss Murray and the son of Mr. E.A. Murray and Mrs. Bertha Isley Murray, both deceased. He was a retired grading contractor and attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Alamance Chapter Antique Car Club of America, member of the N.C. Region Antique Car Club of America and the National Antique Car Club of America, the Early V-8 Club.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Archie Murray of Roxboro and Mr. Dwight Murray of Snow Camp; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Baker of Snow Camp; a brother, Mr. Bascom Murray of Snow Camp; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Doug “Duck” Murray.

Mrs. Vivian Gray McPherson Bodenheimer
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Vivian Gray McPherson Bodenheimer, 67, of 2138 Canterbury Drive, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at her home after an illness of three and a half years.
Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. Robert Wayne Bodenheimer Sr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Calhoun S. McPherson and Mrs. Nancy Durham McPherson, both deceased. She was an office manager of Orthodontic Office of Saunders W. Moore and was a court reporter with Bodenheimer Verbatim Reporting. She was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church.
Survivors other than her husband include a son, Mr. Robert Wayne Bodenheimer Jr. of Swepsonville; two daughters, Ms. Gloria Lynn Bodenheimer of Graham and Ms. Phyllis Ann Bodenheimer Chapman of Huntersville; a brother, Mr. Willie Vernon McPherson of Graham; and three sisters, Ms. Doreen McPherson Weston of Burlington, Ms. Evely McPherson Teer of Chapel Hill and Ms. Jane McPherson Terrell of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. James Robert McPherson.
Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Alamance Memorial Park.
