Mr. Alfred H. Brown
RUFFIN - Mr. Alfred Hayes Brown, 51, of 1654 Allison Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Jan. 6, 1947, in Caswell County, he was the son of Mr. Edward Brown and Mrs. Mary Sellars Brown Griggs, both deceased. He was a Baptist and attended Graves Chapel Baptist Church. He was a self-employed automobile salesman in Washington D.C. before moving back to Caswell County.
Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Delois West of Danville, Mrs. Ethel Gwynn and Mrs. Evelyn Foster, both of Pelham, Mrs. Savannah Mims of Reidsville; a brother, Mr. Melvis Brown of Greensboro; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lelia Sellars of Yanceyville.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Floyd Corbett. Burial will be in Graves Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Delois West, 734 Audubon Drive, Danville.
Mr. Lonnie Cooper Jr.
MEBANE - Mr. Lonnie C. Cooper Jr., 82, of 6315 Oak Grove Church Road, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at his home after six years of failing health.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mabel Holmes Cooper, and the son of Mr. Lonnie C. Cooper Sr. and Mrs. Eva Lillian Hinshaw Cooper, both deceased. He was retired form Melville Furniture in Mebane and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Lonnie Willard Cooper of Efland; a sister, Mrs. Betty Lashley of Mebane; two brothers, Mr. Ralph Cooper of Saxapahaw and Mr. Frank Cooper of Haw River; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James Leonard Cooper.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Moore, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening.
Mrs. Eliza F. Pettiford
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Eliza Fuller Pettiford, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 15, 1921, in Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. Elmer L. Pettiford, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. John S. Fuller and Mrs. Adeline R. Fuller, both deceased. She was a member of Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church for more than 40 years before joining the New Birth Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Ms. Clara D. Fuller and Ms. Sandra V. Mack, both of Haw River; a son, Mr. Ira Lee Mack of Burlington; two sisters, Ms. Katie F. Teague of Burlington and Ms. Corrina Miles of Mebane; three brothers, Mr. Joe Willard Fuller and Mr. Charlie W. Fuller, both of Mebane, and Mr. John W. Fuller of Graham; six grandchildren; and one step grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Birth Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary T. Johnson, pastor. Burial will be North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at New Birth Baptist Church from 7 to 8 Friday evening.

Ms. LaVerna Stone
dies at 101
SILER CITY - Ms. LaVerna Walters Stone, 101, of 891 Pearlyman Teague Road, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at Chatham Hospital Inc.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Henry J. Stone. She attended Guilford College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a retired school teacher, and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, where she taught primary Sunday school, was a choir member and past president of the WMU.
Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Betty Leonard of Bonlee, Ms. Ann Tew of Raleigh and Ms. Dot Patal of Greensboro; two sons, Mr. Jim Stone and Mr. J. Ed Stone, both of Siler City; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loves Creek Baptist Church in Siler City by the Rev. Roy Helms. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mr. Patsy Pirone
BURLINGTON - Mr. Patsy “Pat” Pirone, 73, of 54 Main St., New Canaan, Conn., died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, after five years of failing health.
A native of New Canaan, he was the husband of Mrs. Marion A. Pirone, who survives, and the son of Mr. Ciro Pirone and Mrs. Josephine Marino Pirone, both deceased. He was a retired carpenter for the town of New Canaan. He was a member of VFW Post 653 of New Canaan, a former member of the New Canaan Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Mr. Dennis J. Pirone of Elon College and Mr. Ronald W. Pirone of Maui, Hawaii; three sisters, Mrs. Antoinette Buongiorno and Mrs. Mary Tiani, both of New Canaan, and Mrs. Amelia Meloni of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Anthony Joseph Pirone of New Canaan; and two grandchildren.
Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening.
Mr. Ronald Bush
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Ronald McNeal Bush, 46, of 2442 U.S. 158 East, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Person County Memorial Hospital in Roxboro.
Born Oct. 25, 1952, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ellen Irby Bush, who survives, and the son of Mr. Woodrow Wilson Bush and Mrs. Eunice Wade Bush, both deceased. He was raised from early childhood by Mrs. Etta Bush and the late Mr. Garland Bush. He was owner and operator of Ron Bush Signs and a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church.
Survivors other than Mrs. Etta Bush of Yanceyville include three daughters, Ms. Tiffany Dawn Bush, Ms. Roni Michelle Bush and Ms. Jennifer Shane Bush, all of the home; three brothers, Mr. Robert Bush of Graham and Mr. Tommy Bush and Mr. Wilson Bush, both of Statesville; four sisters, Ms. Dorene Cook of Graham, Ms. Wilma Blanton of Pineville, Ms. Sylvia Bush of Charlotte, and Ms. Priscilla LaBella of Saudi Arabia; and a stepmother, Ms. Dorthy Bush of Graham.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charles W. Bush.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Chappell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stella Pinchback
PROSPECT HILL - Mrs. Stella Louise Ragner Pinchback, 36, of 1506 N.C. 86 South, Lot 3, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1962 in Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Ricky Pinchback, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Susie Ella Featherstone Ragner, who survives, and the late Mr. William McKinley Ragner. She was a member of Rock Hill Temple Apostolic Holiness Church in Danville, Va., where she served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a nursing assistant at Alamance Health Care.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and her mother of Mebane include one son, Mr. Jerrell Pinchback of the home; two brothers, Mr. John Ragner of Mebane and Mr. Joe Ragner of Burlington; five sisters, Evangelist Barbara R. Anderson and Mrs. Carolyn R. Burton, both of Burlington, Mrs. Mary R. Ross of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Mary Clay of Graham and Mrs. Roxie Lettley of Haw River.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamer Baptist Church by Bishop William M. Woods. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening, and at other tiems, at the home of her mother, 3220 Prospect Church Road, Mebane.
Mrs. Pat B. Driver
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Pat Bradshaw Driver, 63, of 6319 Anderland Road, died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of one month.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. James D. “Jim” Driver, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas R. Bradshaw and Mrs. Margaret Chandler Bradshaw, both deceased. She was a member of the Pansy Garden Club of McLeansville and the Goldwing Road Riders. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon College.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Freddie (Dayle) Blanchard of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Dean Driver of Burlington and Mr. Doug Driver of Elon College; a sister, Mrs. Benny “Lib” Quakenbush of Graham; a stepmother, Mrs. Katherine Jones of Graham; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Randy Innes, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Elon College. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Susie T. Foust
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Susie Wilson Torian Foust, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Brookshire Nursing Facility.
Born July 28, 1905, in Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Ed Torian and the late Mr. Johnnie Foust. She was the daughter of Gus and Fannie Harris Wilson, both deceased. She worked in the dietary department at Camp New Hope until her retirement. She was a member of Lipscomb Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Doris) Wright and Ms. Virginia Mitchell, both of Hillsborough, and Ms. Belauh Whitted of Efland; two sons, Mr. William Torian and Mr. Samuel Torian, both of Hillsborough; a brother, Mr. Joe Wilson of Hillsborough; 29 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lipscomb Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. T.C. Nicholson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Derrick Thompson Sr.
EFLAND - Mr. Derrick DeWayne Thompson Sr., 33, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998.
Born March 3, 1965, in Orange County, he was the son of Mr. James Wesley Thompson and Mrs. Alberta Williams Thompson, both deceased. He graduated from high school in Boston and attended Boston College for two years and received a bachelor of arts degree from Lenoir College. He also received a divinity degree and a degree in computer science. He was a member of McCoy’s Temple Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Tiffany Thompson of Mebane; a son, Mr. Derrick DeWayne Thompson Jr. of South Bridge, Mass.; six sisters, Ms. Bobbie Ireland of Greensboro, Ms. Berthina Brown of Hillsborough, Ms. Diane T. Hester, Ms. Myra T. McAdoo and Ms. Alberta T. Thaxton, all of Mebane, and Ms. Vickey T. Barnes of Efland; and a brother, Mr. James Nathaniel Thompson of Durham.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at McCoy’s Temple Holiness Church by the Rev. Walter Thornton, pastor. Burial will be at a later date.

Mrs. Jessie Y. Hawks
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Jessie York Hawks, 82, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Cecil D. Hawks. She was the cook at Jack’s Quick Lunch for 15 years and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Susan Hooker of Thomasville; six sons, Mr. Jack Beasley of Natick, Mass., Mr. Grady Beasley of Chapel Hill, Mr. Donald Hawks and Mr. Brian Hawks, both of Hillsborough, Mr. Bruce Hawks of Charlotte and Mr. Jim Hawks of Snow Camp; a sister, Ms. Willie Jackson Wilson of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will no funeral.
The family will be at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough from 7 to 9 Monday evening.
