Mr. Jurgen Freitag
BURLINGTON - Mr. Jurgen Freitag, 37, of 1019 Elwood St., died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of three weeks.
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, he was the son of Mrs. Inge Freitag Warren, who survives.
Survivors other than his mother of Neu-Isenburg, Germany, include a sister, Ms. Virginia Mueller of Neu-Isenburg; a brother, Mr. Barry Robert Warren of Mebane, and a grandmother, Mrs. Marcella Warren of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Louise McGoogan
dies at age 101
ST. PAULS - Mrs. Louise Stalvey McGoogan, 101, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Born June 9, 1897, in Pittsboro, she was the wife of the late Mr. Albert Stewart McGoogan and the daughter of Mr. Archibald Boyd Stalvey and Mrs. Daisy Sessions Stalvey, both deceased. She was a retired public school teacher and kindergarten teacher. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, where she had held various offices in the Women of the Church and had served as Bible moderator of her circle. In 1974, she was presented an honorary life membership by Women of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. She was a longtime member of the Wednesday Study Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Anne Hopkins of Garner and Ms. Sarah Louise McNeill of St. Pauls; a son, Mr. Charles Stalvey McGoogan of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Ms. Mary Stewart Calhoun of Laurinburg and Ms. Frances Robinson of Huntersville; two brothers, Dr. J. Ben Stalvey of Hialeah, Fla., and Mr. John C. Stalvey of Knightdale; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church by Mr. David Ruth. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church fellowship hall one hour before the service.

Mr. Robert F. Jerrell
BURLINGTON - Mr. Robert F. “Bobby” Jerrell, 84, of White Oak Manor, formerly of Pond Road, died at 8:28 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at the manor after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Jane Williamson Jerrell and the son of Mr. John Linville Jerrell and Mrs. Carrie Lee Evans Jerrell, both deceased. He was retired from Norris Brothers as an automobile mechanic.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jeanie Riggins of Burlington; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lucille Starling and a brother, Mr. Charlie L. Jerrell.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. James D. Lockley. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 3302 Pond Road, Burlington.
Mr. Thomas Branson Jr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Thomas Austin Branson Jr., 68, of 3334 Elk Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Stokesdale, he was the husband of Mrs. Joy Hieb Branson, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Carrie Brookbank Branson, who survives, and the late Mr. Thomas A. Branson Sr. He was former general manager of Lindy Hosiery and in 1967 founded Branson Hosiery, a manufacturer of men’s and children’s socks. He was an U.S. Navy veteran and traveled in Asia with the Pacific Fleet. He lost the use of his right hand in the service and before discharge was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He attended St. Mark’s Reformed Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Greensboro include a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Jill) Greeson of Whitsett; a son, Mr. Richard L. Branson of Kernersville; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Thompson of Mooresville, Ind., and Mrs. Shelby Garland Huff of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Lee Branson of Whiteville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Reformed Church by the Rev. Robert M. Disher, pastor.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. J.C. Herbin
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. J.C. Herbin, of 109 Long St., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at White Oak Manor after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nellie Jordan Moore Herbin, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jule Herbin and Mrs. Minnie Herbin, both deceased. He was a custodian at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro and attended Faith Baptist Church in Gibsonville. He was a member of the American Legion Post 63 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Denise Haith of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Ms. Karen Renee Herbin and Mrs. Patty Currie, both of Burlington; a son, Mr. Daniel Herbin of Burlington; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Joyce Moore Jeffries and Mrs. Sandra Cohn, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Faye Pin-nix of Elon College; four stepsons, Mr. Connie Moore of Burlington, Mr. Walter Moore of Fayetteville, Mr. Tony Moore of Reidsville and Mr. Duncan Moore of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Foster of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Lottie M. Brown of Burlington and Mrs. Barbara Jean Fox of Greensboro; two brothers, Mr. Samuel Herbin of Glen Raven and Mr. Clyde Herbin of Burlington; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church by the Rev. Eli Burton and the Rev. Timothy Warren, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes before the service, and at other times at the home.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Julianne Dufault, 85, of 617 Durham St., died at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at Mebane Family Care after a sudden illness.

Mr. Harry J. Estes
SANFORD - Mr. Harry James Estes, 80, of 700 Westover Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Central Carolina Hospital.
A native of Macon County, he was the husband of Mrs. Essie Mae Humphreys Estes, who survives.
Survivors other than his wife include a son, the Rev. James R. Estes of Sanford; three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Eatman of Charlotte, Mrs. Pawnee Wooten and Mrs. Ruth Lobson, both of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Jack Estes of Burlington and Mr. Luke Estes of Belmont; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel in Sanford by the Rev. Larry Janey. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Belmont Baptist Church in Burlington.
The family will be at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 9:30 to 11 Wednesday morning.

Joshua Shoffner Jones
BURLINGTON - Joshua Christopher Shoffner Jones, 5-week-old infant son of Ms. Stella Denorris Shoffner and Mr. Bryant Christopher Jones, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
He was a native of Orange County.
Survivors other than his mother of Burlington and father of Mebane include maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby L. Shoffner of Burlington; and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Margaret A. Jones of Mebane.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Rest Haven cemetery by the Rev. W.H. Morrison.

Ms. Lois L. Marlette
PITTSBURGH - Ms. Lois L. Marlette, 55, of Morningside, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. She was a former resident of Gibsonville.
She was the daughter of Mr. Robert Marlette and Mrs. Virginia Marlette, both deceased. She had a bachelor of science degree in nursing and was a registered nurse. She had been a long-time employee of Montifoire Hospital and was former head nurse of Montifoire Surgical Center. She was active in the association of operating room nurses and past vice president of the local chapter. She was a graduate of Penn State and Community College of Allegheny County School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She was currently studying for a masters degree in public health management at Carnegie-Mellon University, John Heinz Jr. School of Public Policy and Management, in Pittsburgh. She was a volunteer of the Family House of Pittsburgh and the East End Cooperative Ministries Food Bank.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Stephen Marlette and Mr. Michael Marlette, both of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Ms. Nancy Spoltore of Pittsburgh and Ms. Lina Farris of Kernersville; and a brother, Mr. Robert S. Marlette Jr. of Pittsburgh.
A memorial Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at St. Raphael Church.

Mr. Bobbie McPherson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Bobbie Lee Pherson, 80, of 1736 White Kennel Road, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Snow Camp, he was the husband of Mrs. Lake R. McPherson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert L. McPherson and Mrs. Etta Cheek McPherson, both deceased. He was a retired owner of Bobbie’s Texaco and Maple Ave. Cleaners. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class with 37 years of perfect attendance.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Darrell McPherson and Mr. Danny McPherson, both of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Doris Johnson of High Point and Mrs. Naomi Capps and Mrs. Kathryn Glenn, both of Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. David Lee McPherson; a sister, Ms. Mae McPherson; and five brothers, Mr. Coy McPherson, Mr. Homer McPherson, Mr. Ben McPherson, Mr. Raymond McPherson and Mr. Willard McPherson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Bellemont United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Roberts, pastor; the Rev. Al Trotter, former pastor; the Rev. R.E.L. Moser, Methodist minister; and the Rev. Bill Wolfe, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Nettie Frazier
GRAHAM - Mrs. Nettie A. Harden Frazier, 85, of 719 Sycamore Road, died at 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Quince Edward Frazier, and the daughter of Mr. Pete R. Harden and Mrs. Nettie A. Harden, both deceased. She was a retired inspector for Canon Mills and was a member of Providence United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Joseph Edward Frazier of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Cora H. Grover of Elon College and Mrs. Carolyn Sykes of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Peter Ray Harden and Mr. Junius H. Harden, both of Graham; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Sarah H. Wrenn; and three brothers, Mr. John W. Harden, Mr. J. Turner Harden and Mr. M. Ray Harden.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence United Church of Christ by the Rev. Darryl Peebles. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
