Mrs. Edith J. Atkins
MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Edith Marie Jones Atkins, 69, of 787 Boaz Lane, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
Born Feb. 18, 1929, in Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Otis William Atkins II and the daughter of Mr. William Abner Jones and Mrs. Margaret Beulah Holmes Jones, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Blackwater Community Church.
Survivors include a daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Margaret Edith) Gammons of Mount Airy; five sons, Mr. James David “J.D.” Atkins, Mr. Robert William Atkins, Mr. Gurney Thomas Atkins, Mr. Danny Wayne Atkins and Mr. Warren Ray Atkins, all of Mount Airy; a sister, Ms. Betty Flynn of Mebane; three brothers, Mr. Raymond Jones of Mebane, Mr. George Jones of Mount Airy and Mr. Bobby Jones of Florida; 28 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Monday at Blackwater Community Church by the Rev. Ray Hutson, the Rev. Timmy Crotts and the Rev. Ted Crotts. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jay B. Pickard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mr. Jay B. Pickard, 72, formerly of Greensboro, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville after a critical illness of two weeks.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Jean M. Pickard and the son of Mr. J.B. Pickard Sr. and Mrs. Helen Payne Pickard, both deceased. He was a graduate of Curry High School of Greensboro and Elon College. He was a retired high school teacher for the Jacksonville, Fla., School System and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Graves (Alice P.) Braxton of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Bill Pickard of Greensboro and Mr. Earl Pickard of Burlington and Topsail Beach.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Wesley D. Pickard.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Daisy C. Evans
GREEN LEVEL - Mrs. Daisy Covington Evans, 97, of 2473 E. Simpson Road, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of one week.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Roy Evans Sr. and the daughter of Mr. George Covington and Mrs. Jennie Leath Covington, both deceased. She was a member of Visitors Chapel United Church of Christ, where she was a deacon and member of the Missionary Department.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Roy Evans Jr. of the home; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Visitors Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Terry B. Jones, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Green Level United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Thad D. Huffstetler
HUBERT - Mr. Thad Dean “Jack” Huffstetler, 68, of 139 Smallwood Road died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at his home after an illness of one year. He was formerly of Mebane.
Born June 17, 1930, in Gaston County, he was the husband of Mrs. Betty Myers Huffstetler, who survives. He retired from AT&T after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a two daughters, Ms. Kris Huffstetler and Mrs. Ronald R. (Valerie) Gerzema, both of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Dean Huffstetler and Mr. Greg Huffstetler, both of Mebane; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Jesse Staton, pastor of Hebron United Methodist Church.
There will be no visitation.

MEBANE - Mr. Richard Macon Mebane Sr., 76, of 3621 Old Hillsborough Road, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after an illness of four months.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Frances Roberta Haley Mebane and the son of Mr. Sidney Mitchell Mebane and Mrs. Susan Frances Nelson Mebane, both deceased. He was a retired merchant and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Mebane Mitchell and Mrs. Jan Mebane McPherson, both of Mebane; a son, Mr. Richard Macon Mebane Jr. of Gibsonville; a sister, Mrs. Grace Lloyd of Mebane; three brothers, Mr. Mitchell Mebane and Mr. Paisley Mebane, both of Mebane, and Mr. Nelson Mebane of Hillsborough; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jesse Staton, pastor of Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Mitchell, 1269 Broadwood Acres Road, Mebane.
Mr. Theodore G. Lindley
GRAHAM - Mr. Theodore Gladstone “Ted” Lindley, 53, of 2033 McKenzie Park Lane, Lot 24, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after 12 years of failing health, four days critical.
A native of Durham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Janice Anderson Lindley, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Edgar Lindley and Mrs. Allene Farmer Lindley, both deceased. He was retired from McLeod Oil Co. and was a former second lieutenant with the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Stephanie Drewery of the home; and a grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Graham Memorial Park by the Rev. Dale Matthews, pastor of Cane Creek Friends Meeting.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

SNOW CAMP - Mr. Michael Eugene Hundley, 47, of 2403 Skyview Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Alamance Country, he was the son of Mrs. Reba Shore Hundley, who survives, and the late Mr. William McKinley Hundley. He was employed by Easco Aluminum and attended Harvest Hills Church of God.
Survivors other than his mother of Burlington include a daughter, Miss Amanda Hundley of the home; two sons, Mr. Dillon Hundley and Mr. Jason Hundley, both of the home; a sister, Ms. Bonnie Albright of Burlington; and three brothers, the Rev. Jerry Hundley of Wake Forest, and Mr. Jesse Hundley and Mr. Tommy Hundley, both of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Wayne Miller, pastor of Mebane Church of God. Burial will be in Cane Creek Friends Meeting cemetery.

GRAHAM - Mrs. Rochelle Williams Spoon, 85, of 4938 Snow Camp Road, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at her home after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Herman Ester Spoon and the daughter of Mr. John Williams and Mrs. Ora McVey Williams, both deceased. She was retired from Dixie Yarns and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Crawford and Mrs. Nora Shelley, both of Graham; a son, Mr. Clarence Spoon of Snow Camp; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.

TARBORO - The Rev. Dan Warren, 40, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Ms. Lynnette Kincaid Warren; his parents, Mr. Jim Warren and Mrs. Joyce Smith Warren of Winston-Salem; a son, Mr. Daniel Caleb Warren of the home; a sister, Ms. Terry Warren King of Conway, S.C.; and other relatives in Elon College.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church by Dr. Marc Tilley and the Rev. Joe Walker. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury.
