BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruth Carver Funk, 77, of 1625 Wycliff Court, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at her home.

Mr. William G. McBride
BURLINGTON - Mr. William Guy McBride, 76, of 822 N. Graham-Hopedale Road, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, two days critical.
A native of Randolph County, he was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Davis McBride, who survives, and the son of Mr. W.L. McBride and Mrs. Myrtle Moffitt McBride, both deceased. He was retired from Glen Raven Mills and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 721 A.F. & A.M. and Piedmont Presbyterian Church, where he was a former teacher of the Men’s Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charles W. McBride.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Morton Kurtz. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 721 A.F. & A.M. will open at 12:30 p.m. Sunday for emergent communication for the purpose of conducting Masonic graveside rites.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. W.M. Ford
GRAHAM - Mr. William Manning “Bill” Ford, 66, of 409 W. Gilbreath St., died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after six months of failing health, three days critical.
A native of Halifax County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Sally Ann Sumners Ford, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Edward Ford and Mrs. Ethel Glover Ford, both deceased. He was a retired fixer for Copland Fabrics and a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Ford Hendrix of Irmo, S.C.; a son, Mr. William Dal Ford of Hilda, S.C.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Pam Westbrook of Mebane, Mrs. Nancy Melton of Haw River, Mrs. Pat Strider of Alexandria, Va., and Ms. Karen English of the home; a stepson, Mr. Kenneth English of the home; a sister, Mrs. Lelia Mae Reeves of Alton, Va.; three grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Arthur Ford, Mr. Crowder Ford and Mr. Edward Ford.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Staley Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Elaine S. Isley
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elaine Jones Shoffner Isley, 83, a former resident of Stone Street in Haw River, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight months of failing health.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James W. Isley and the late Mr. Lucian G. Shoffner and the daughter of Mr. John Robert Jones and Mrs. Mattie Jane Wilson Jones, both deceased. She was a retired clerk at Haw River Drug. She was a member of the Baptist Temple.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Camilla Forbes and Mrs. Cindy Starnes, both of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Ruby Stovall, Mrs. Mable Jones, Mrs. Ethel Haley, Mrs. Lottie Blanchard and Mrs. Panola Huddleston; and one brother, Mr. John Jones.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Baptist Temple by Dr. Donald Carter, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home of Mrs. Cindy Starnes, 130 Boone St., Burlington.
Mr. June C. Braxton
GRAHAM - Mr. June Clayton Braxton, 76, of 3303-B Newlin Road, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mabel L. Braxton, who survives, and the son of Mr. Ernest Frank Braxton and Mrs. Callie Newlin Braxton, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and an employee of University Power Plant. He was a member of Chatham Friends Meeting.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Oscar (Jane) Majors of Snow Camp; a son, Mr. Danny Braxton of Clackmas, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Linda Smith; a sister, Mrs. Lorene Hadley; and three brothers, Mr. Albert Braxton, Mr. Frank Braxton and Mr. J.V. Braxton.
The family will be at the home of the daughter, 3259 Newlin Road, Snow Camp.

Mr. Don C. Barrett
HAW RIVER - Mr. Don C. Barrett, 77, of 1310 Stone St. Ext., died at 10:36 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Surgoinsville, Tenn., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lena Quesenberry Barrett and the son of Mr. Robert Taylor Barrett and Mrs. Matilda Looney Barrett, both deceased. He was a retired businessman and an inventor with several patents. He was a World War II Marine veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Rock of Ages Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Donna Barrett Darnall of New York City and Mrs. Richard (Wanda) Tengstedt of Tallahassee, Fla.; one son, Mr. Don Connor Barrett Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle B. Heath of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Mr. J.B. Barrett, Mr. Clay Barrett, Mr. Bill Barrett, Mr. Robert Keener Barrett and Mr. Joe C. Barrett.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rock of Ages Baptist Church by the Rev. David King, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Frances Spence
ALBEMARLE - Mrs. Frances Riley Spence, 69, of 609 Hawthorn Ave., died at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29, 1998, in the emergency room at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born April 10, 1929, in Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Ray Brooks Spence, who died in 1997, and the daughter of the late Mr. Eugene Riley and Mrs. Lorene Fulcher Riley, both deceased. She was a 1948 graduate of Haw River High School and also graduated from Alamance General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse at Stanly Memorial Hospital and a member of the First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Bradford Eugene Spence of Norwood; two daughters, Mrs. Dianna Owen of Chester, Va. and Mrs. Carol Burnet of Fort Mill, S.C.; three brothers, Mr. Richard Riley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mr. Broadie Riley and Mr. Warren Riley, both of Haw River; a sister, Ms. Christine Schott of Bridgeport, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Nov. 1 at the First Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Futterer and the Rev. Heidi Sommers. Burial was in Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Mrs. Mildred Davis
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mildred Graham Davis, 91, of 914 Elm St., died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Lacy G. “Red” Davis, who died in 1971, and the daughter of Mr. George Robert Graham and Mrs. Frances Tapscott Graham, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and former member of the Women’s Methodist Mission.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. William (Rita) Hall of Elkin, Mrs. Lonnie (Joan) Williams of Haw River, Ms. Madge G. Davis of the home, Ms. Joyce Mrizek of Chicago and Mrs. Robert (Irma) Gilley of Burlington; five sons, Mr. Harold L. Davis, Mr. Ronald T. Davis, Mr. Wayne G. Davis, Mr. Jefferson D. Davis and Mr. Steve H. Davis, all of Burlington; one sister, Ms. Doris Pender of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Louis H. Graham and Mr. Victor H. Graham, both of Graham; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Millard Steven Davis; four sisters, Ms. Kara Graham, Mrs. Claudia Fox, Mrs. Josephine Umstead and Mrs. Thelma Hurdle; and one brother, Mr. Paul Graham.

YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Theodore Mims, 69, of 459 Melvin-Wrenn Road, died at 9:35 a.m. Nov. 4, 1998, at his home.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Penny Watlington Mims, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Mims, who survives, and the late Mrs. Matilda Mims. He was a carpenter.
Survivors other than his wife and his father include six daughters, Mrs. Dearry Jean Montague of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Beverly C. Jones, Ms. Bessie Ann Watkins and Ms. Sylvia Womack, all of Yanceyville, Mrs. Betty J. Thomas of Reidsville, and Ms. Alycia Davis of New Jersey; two sisters, Ms. Mary Adelaide Blackwell of Burlington and Mrs. Florine Mims Shoffner of Greensboro; one brother, Mr. James Edward Mims of Yanceyville; one stepson, Mr. Deshaun Lamont Pettiford of the home; one stepdaughter, Ms. Sonja Renee Garland of the home; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Tommie Lee Mims, and a sister, Ms. Olivia Mims Poole.

NEWARK, N.J. - Ms. Nannie Maxcine Rainey, of Newark, died Nov. 2, 1998, in Newark.
A native of Orange County, she was educated in the Orange County School system.
Survivors include three sisters, Ms. Mae E. White, Ms. Lilly C. Rainey and Ms. Linda R. Daniel; three brothers, Mr. Alphonso Rainey, Mr. Jasper Rainey Jr. and Mr. Jeffrey B. Rainey.
