Mr. James E. Best Jr.
HAW RIVER - Mr. James E. Best Jr., 67, of 431 Keck Road, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Betty Crenshaw Best, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Edward Best Sr. and Mrs. Willie Jerrell Best, both deceased. He was the owner of Best Plumbing. He was a U.S. Army 82nd Airborne veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 427, Haw River.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Best Womack of Burlington and Mrs. Tamara Best Ferettino of Graham; a son, Mr. Sammy Best of Burlington; two stepsisters, Mrs. Catherine Wilson of Graham and Mrs. Betty Tilley of Haw River; a brother, Mr. George T. Best of San Antonio; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Jamie Best Baker.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. James L. Rosser, pastor, and the Rev. Skip Williams, pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Debbie Womack, 2310 Hickory Ave., Burlington.

Mrs. Alise H. Cash
HENDERSON - Mrs. Alise Harris Cash, 75, of 166 Thorpe St., died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Maria Parham Hospital.
A native of Vance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Garland E. Cash, and the daughter of Mr. Ollie M. Harris and Mrs. Mable Shearin Harris, both deceased. She was a retired nurses aid and worked at Pine Haven Convalescent Center for nine years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Christine C. Perry of Henderson and Ms. Patricia C. Roberson of Burlington; a brother, Mr. William Marshall Harris of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Chris Sorensen and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Christine Perry and Mr. Billy Perry, 414 Parham Road, Henderson.

Mr. William O. Patrick
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. William Oscar Patrick, 71, of Manning Avenue died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a long illness.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Mr. Kenith Patrick and Mrs. Beatrice Fryer Patrick, both deceased.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Willard Yancey of Green Level; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rainey Enoch. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Ms. Bonnie H. Clapp
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Ms. Bonnie Hogan Clapp, 52, of 218 S. Third St., died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Clarksville Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 16, 1946, in Clarksville, she was the daughter of Mr. Marvin Hogan and Mrs. Earthel Rye Hogan, both deceased. She was a seamstress and a member of Madison Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Clapp Brown of Liberty; four sisters, Mrs. Anita West, Mrs. Nancy Hodge, Mrs. Duann Lawson and Ms. Bettie McCuiston, all of Clarksville; four brothers, Mr. L.C. Hogan of Ashland City, Tenn., Mr. James Hogan, Mr. Gene Hogan and Mr. Benny Hogan, all of Clarksville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 27 at Sykes Funeral Home by Mr. Jeoffrey Sikes. Burial was in Lowes Lutheran Church cemetery in Liberty.
Mr. B. Frank Rodgers
GREEN CITY - Mr. B. Frank Rodgers, 90, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Magnolia Manor after an illness of several months.
A native of Fingerville, S.C., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dora Jones Rodgers, and the son of Mr. Rice Wellington Rodgers and Mrs. Martha Cudd Rodgers, both deceased. He was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He served for 12 years on the Polk County Board of Education and was a retired construction contractor. He was a former member of the Green Creek Ruritan Club. He was a member of Sandy Plains Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for 67 years, where he served as an elder, men’s Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Joe S. (Martha R.) West of Taylors, S.C., Mrs. James A. (Norva R.) Fagan of Charlotte, Ms. Rosella R. Cox of Burlington and Mrs. Daniel (Rebecca R.) Wilson of Chicago; two sons, Mr. Dexter F. Rodgers of Green Creek and Mr. J. Milton Rodgers of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Ms. Mary Smith of Rutherfordton; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sandy Plains Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
The family will be at the fellowship hall following the service.

Mr. Wayne B. Arnold
HOUSTON - Mr. Wayne B. Arnold, 60, of 4013 Artdale, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Southwest Memorial Hospital after a critical illness of four weeks.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of Mr. Eddie C. Arnold Sr. and Mrs. Flossie Britt Arnold, both deceased. He was employed in landscaping service and was a member of Pilot Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Margaret A. Pearce and Mrs. Judy A. Stevens, both of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Jimmy C. Arnold and Mr. Richard Arnold, both of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Ola Mae A. Morris, Ms. Lucy A. Perry and Mrs. Gracie A. Murphy; and six brothers, Mr. Eddie C. Arnold Jr., Mr. Jesse Arnold, Mr. Alex Arnold, Mr. Preston Arnold, Mr. Millard Arnold and Mr. James Arnold.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pearce Baptist Church cemetery in Zebulon by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Margaret Pearce, 2414 Hillford Road, Burlington.
Mr. Theodore Mims
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Theodore Mims, 69, of 459 Melvin-Wrenn Road, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at his home after a short illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Penny Watlington Mims, who survives, and the son Mr. John Mims and Mrs. Matilda Mims, both deceased. He was a carpenter.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include six daughters, Mrs. Dearry Jean Montaque of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Beverly C. Jones, Ms. Bessie Ann Watkins and Ms. Sylvia Womack, all of Yanceyville, Mrs. Betty J. Thomas of Reidsville and Ms. Alycia Davis of New Jersey; a stepdaughter, Ms. Sonja Renee Garland of the home; a stepson, Mr. Deshaun Lamont Pettiford of the home; two sisters, Ms. Mary Adelaide Blackwell of Burlington and Mrs. Florine Mims Shoffner of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. James Edward Mims of Yanceyville; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Olivia Mims Poole and a brother, Mr. Tommie Lee Mims.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church by Elder James Leak. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Anne L. Frazier
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Anne L. Frazier, 84, of White Oak Manor, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the manor. She was a former resident of 2011 S. Mebane St.
A native of Johnston County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Thomas Wendell Frazier, and the daughter of Mr. Rufus Langdon and Mrs. Ella Langdon, both deceased. She was a member of the Alamance Home Extension Club and the Senior Y Group. She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Larry W. Frazier of Graham, Mr. David R. “Ronnie” Frazier of Greensboro and Mr. J. Douglas Frazier of Cary; a sister, Miss Catherine Langdon of Suffolk, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Suzanne Shoffner, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. John P. Garner
MEBANE - Mr. John Perry Garner, 60, of 1541 E. Main St., died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 14, 1937, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Deborah Carden Garner, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jesse James Garner, who survives, and the late Mrs. Sarah Shields Garner. He was self-employed with Garner Tree Service and a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Mebane include a daughter, Ms. Janet Garner of Burlington; a son, Mr. Glen Garner of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Stephen Buck (Nellie) Petty of Mebane; six brothers, Mr. William C. Garner of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Mr. Elbert D. Garner and Mr. Leon F. Garner, both of Burlington, and Mr. Larry J. Garner, Mr. Lawrence H. Garner and Mr. Bernard W. Garner, all of Mebane; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Reva Walker Timmeran.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Gladys P. Lindley
SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Gladys Pace Lindley, 87, of 1156 Moon Lindley Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Mark W. Lindley. She was a teacher’s aide with Chatham County Schools and was a music teacher for many years. She was a birthright member of South Fork Friends Church and served as pianist. She was a member of the Missionary Society and the church Sunday school class.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Rebecca “Becky” Andrew of Snow Camp and Ms. Mary Neill Murchison of Siler City; a son, Mr. Darrell Lindley of Snow Camp; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at South Fork Friends Church by the Rev. John Reece and the Rev. Winfred Crouse. Burial will be in South Fork Friends Cemetery.
The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son, 1140 Moon Lindley Road, Snow Camp.
