Mrs. Ruby M. Madren
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Ruby Montgomery Madren, 83, of 3421 Altamahaw Race Track Road, died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Roy Allen Madren, and the daughter of Mr. Daniel F. Montgomery and Mrs. Bertie Trollinger Montgomery, both deceased. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Shoe of Altamahaw; a sister, Mrs. Maude M. Johnson of The Oaks, Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Alfred Madren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. David Gilbert, pastor.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 3445 Altamahaw Race Tack Road, Elon College.

Mrs. Margaret Gibbs
VENICE, Fla. - Mrs. Margaret Wilson Gibbs, 91, of 900 S. Tamiami Trail Apt. 1116, Venice, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Bon Secoures-Venice Hospital.
A native of Hanford County, Md., she was the wife of the late Rev. Perry Lee Gibbs, and the daughter of Mr. Alfred H. Wilson and Mrs. Jessie Huff Wilson, both deceased. She was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Kathryn Lee Gibbs of Van Nuys, Calif.; a son, Mr. Wilson Lee Gibbs of Haddonfield, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Katherine W. Prantz of Southhampton Estates, Pa.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A cryptside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Alamance Memorial Park by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 10 to 11 Friday morning.

Mrs. Effie Smith
REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Effie Forbis Martin Smith, 75, of 110 Yorkshire Drive, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 30, 1998.
Born Dec. 7, 1922, in Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Hubert M. Smith, and the daughter of Mr. Willie David Forbis and Ms. Lula Bell Modlin, both deceased. She was formerly of Greensboro and was retired from Cone Mills White Oak Plant after 35 years of service. She was a member of Our Lords Church and church choir in Greensboro.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jerry Wayne (Penny Smith) Lewis; a son, Mr. Reubin James “Jimmy” Martin of Julian; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Mayberry. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, from 7 to 9 this evening

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Sally Bell Morton, 64, of 714 Center Ave., died at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was the wife of Mr. Curtis Morton.

Mrs. Ruth S. Saul
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Ruth Smithey Saul, 92, of 3314 Church St., died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Health Care of Alamance after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. A.Y. Saul Sr., and the daughter of Mr. William David Smithey and Mrs. Lela Blackwell Smithey, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington Industries Plaid Mill. She was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Mary Graves Beale, Mrs. Shirley Ward and Mrs. Pat Haizlip, all of Elon College, and Mrs. Jeanette Apple of Mebane; three sons, Mr. Levi Saul and Mr. A.Y. Saul Jr., both of Elon College, and Mr. Bill Saul of Burlington; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Alice Vaughn; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Saul and Ms. Callie Mae Satterfield; and seven brothers, Mr. Dan Smithey, Mr. Clay Smithey, Mr. Ray Smithey, Mr. Samuel Smithey, Mr. Jack Smithey, Mr. Garland Smithey and Mr. Clyde Smithey.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Dan Christopher, former pastor, and Dr. Tommy Richardson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. Randall S. Rudd Jr.
GRAHAM - Mr. Randall Scott Rudd Jr., 13, of 3465 Lot A, N.C. 54, died at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a critical illness of three days.
A native of Durham County, he was the son of Mr. Randall Scott Rudd Sr. and Mrs. Kimberly Dawn Combs Rudd, who both survive. He was a rising freshman at Southern Alamance High School.
Survivors other than his father of the home and mother of Snow Camp include a sister, Miss Stevie Dawn Rudd of the home; maternal grandfather, Mr. Ricky Combs of Hillsborough; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Faye Ivey of Snow Camp; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Less Rudd of Graham; and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Esther Rudd of Yanceyville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Wade Cox, pastor of Nall Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. David Jackson, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Ms. Dorothy N. Hinton
RALEIGH - Ms. Dorothy Nadine Hinton, 77, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998.
She was a retired secretary with the N.C. Treasury Department.
Survivors include a sister, Ms. Audrey H. Hayes of Raleigh; and two brothers, Mr. James W. Hinton of Burlington and Mr. Billy E. Hinton of Raleigh.
A graveside service will be conducted by 11 a.m. today at Maplewood cemetery by Dr. John Allen.
The family will be at the McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton one hour before the service.
Mrs. Eunice Richmond
MEBANE - Mrs. Eunice Hardy Richmond, 86, of 2031 N.C. 119 North, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lonnie Richmond, and the daughter of Mr. William Hardy and Mrs. Ollie Mae Chavis Hardy, both deceased.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. LaVerne Richmond of the home, Mrs. Rhonda Howard of Mebane, Mrs. Patricia Berry and Mrs. Mabeal Lea, both of Graham; a son, Mr. Robert Lea of Burlington; a stepson, Mr. Kenneth Richmond of Sedalia; a sister, Ms. Katie Lee Hardy of Graham; a brother, Mr. Winiford Hardy of White Plains, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Kimes Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Alston Jr., pastor, and Elder Darius P. Dixon. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in White Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Peggy Wood Martin Coe, 63, of 4418 N.C. 62 South, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in Alamance County after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Richard H. Martin and the late Mr. Charles R. Coe. She was the daughter of Mrs. Hilda Roney Wood, who survives, and the late Mr. Jesse C. Wood. She was a semiretired sitter with the elderly and a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River.
Survivors other than her mother of Swepsonville include a daughter, Mrs. Jan Parks of Asheboro; three sons, Mr. Leon Martin of Burlington, Mr. Ronnie Martin of Asheboro and Mr. Mark Martin of Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Dot Bell of Denton, Mrs. Carolyn Champion of Reidsville, Mrs. Sylvia Gant of Greensboro and Mrs. Velinda Becraft of Pleasant Garden; five brothers, Mr. Gerald Wood of Mebane, Mr. Johnnie Wood of Swepsonville, Mr. Michael Wood of Macon, Ga., Mr. Joel Wood of Adrain, Mich., and Mr. Timothy Wood of Greensboro; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by death by two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Sibersen and Miss Marie Wood.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawfields Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Rev. Don Clement, pastor of Swepsonville Baptist Church, and the Rev. James Christopher, pastor of People's Church.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John C. Brooks Jr. She was a former employee of Tasty Bakery and was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Patti Ensley of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a son, Mr. Danny Brooks of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Frank Webster, layman. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
