Mrs. Eleanore Kittenger
SOUTHERN PINES - Mrs. Eleanore Hammer Kittenger of Penick Homes, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, July 24, 1998, at Penick Village Nursing Center after one year of failing health. She was formerly of Elon College.
A native of Philadelphia, she was the wife of the late Rev. John Raymond Kittenger, and the daughter of Mr. John Blakely Hammer and Mrs. Edith Gilbert Hammer, both deceased. She was a retired librarian at Elon College and was a member of the Business Professional Women, the N.C. Library Association and the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Robert B. Kittenger of Elon College.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Patricia Jean Kittenger, and a son, Mr. John Blakely Kittenger.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter by the Rev. Michael Dunnington, associate rector. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Mrs. Thelma Campbell
WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Thelma Howard Campbell, 78, of Triad United Methodist Home, Arbor Acres, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 1998, at Arbor Acres, after a long illness.
A native of Catawba County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charles F. 'Red' Campbell Jr., and the daughter of Mr. James Clay Howard and Mrs. Ester Howard Howard, both deceased. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church and the Women of the Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John Howard.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary one hour before the service.
Ms. Betty Lou Greene
BURLINGTON - Ms. Betty Lou Bean Greene, 76, of 513 Vine St., died at 4:17 a.m. Friday, July 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of failing health, one day critical.
A native of Canton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mr. Ira C. Bean and Mrs. Iva Underwood Bean, both deceased. She was a retired supervisor with Burlington Handbags and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Ms. Alana Lee Freed of the home, Mrs. Jimmie (Pam) Huffines and Ms. Teri Matkins, both of Burlington, and Ms. Patricia Brightman and Ms. Cindy Greene, both of Lafayette, Ind.; two sons, Mr. Lance R. Freed of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mr. Michael D. Greene of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Olive Mae Parker of Miami; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Olin Tatum, pastor of West Burlington Church of God.
The family will be at the funeral home after the service.

Mrs. Millie Jennings
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Millie Hurt Jennings, 57, of 412 Devonshire Lane, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 1998, at her home after one year of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Florence, Ala., she was the wife of Mr. Willie H. Jennings, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Martha G. Hurt, who survives, and the late Mr. George Thurston Hurt. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College and Mary Washington College in Virginia, and she received a master of education degree from Elon College. She was a retired social studies and language arts teacher at Turrentine Middle School. She was past president of Williams High School Choral Boosters, where she served as stage mother for school musical productions. She was a past member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and former president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the Teacher of the Year for Burlington City Schools, 1986-87, and was chairperson of the annual Teachers Retirement Dinner. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, where she was a former Sunday school teacher in the youth department.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of South Carolina include three sons, Mr. W. Hugh Jennings Jr. of Burlington and Mr. G. Nathan Jennings and Mr. P. Haden Jennings, both of the home; a sister, Mrs. Mary Lee Ashman of Petersburg, Va.; a brother, Mr. George Hurt of South Carolina; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan, pastor, and Mr. Mike Armstrong. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. A. Ross Williams
NEWBERRY, S.C. - Mr. A. Ross Williams, 80, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Springfield Place. He was formerly of Oakwood Lane, Graham.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Lindsey Williams, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Clayton Williams and Mrs. Jessie C. Williams, both deceased. He was an independent service station operator and had recently retired from S.C.I. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and First United Methodist Church of Graham.
Survivors other than his wife of Newberry include two daughters, Mrs. Kent (Marsha) Phillips of Clinton, S.C., and Mrs. Niles (Michelle) Newsome of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a brother, Mr. Jimmy Williams of Laurens, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Louise Jones; and a grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Mrs. Inez P. Mateo
WILMINGTON, Calif. - Mrs. Inez Phillips Mateo, 65, of 617 Wilmington Blvd., died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, 1998, at San Pedro Penninsula Hospital in San Pedro, Calif., after an illness of 21 days, 14 days critical.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Charles Mateo, who died in 1996, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Pleasant Phillips and Mrs. Dollie Powell Phillips, both deceased.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Buck (Sarah) Stanfield of Burlington and Mrs. Fred (Dolly) Johnson of Graham; and four brothers, Mr. M. Holland Phillips, Mr. Joe T. Phillips, Mr. Jimmie D. Phillips and Mr. Othal G. Phillips, all of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Arlona Phillips and Miss Sylvia Phillips; and three brothers, Mr. Robert W. Phillips, Mr. M. Calvin Phillips and Mr. P. Huelon Phillips.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Beverly Hills United Church of Christ by Dr. Chris Burr, pastor.

Mrs. Eula W. Parker
CHAPEL HILL - Mrs. Eula Walker Parker, 87, of 2651 Farrington Point, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at UNC Hospitals after a long illness. She was formerly of Mebane.
A native of Gibsonville, she was the wife of Mr. Richard Lee Parker, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. J.R. Apple and Mrs. Cora Apple, both deceased. She was retired from Swank's Hosiery Mill and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Marty Cauley.
The family will be in the church fellowship hall after the service.

Mrs. Loruhamah Cohn
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Loruhamah Haith Cohn, 83, of 2324 James Boswell Road, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of several weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Albert Cohn, and the daughter of Mr. Rudy Haith and Mrs. Cynthia Wilson Haith, both deceased. She was a member of Archie's Grove United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Janell Cohn Lesueur of Fairfax, Va.; a son, Mr. Joein Cohn of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Stella Haith Day, and a brother, Mr. John Haith.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Archie's Grove United Church of Christ by the Rev. William H. Carr, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Jeffries Cross Memorial Park.

Mr. W. Paul Edmonds
MEBANE - Mr. William Paul Edmonds, 92, of 6712 E. Washington St. Ext., died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health.
A native of Surry County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lela Mary 'Pinky' Doby Edmonds, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jim Edmonds and Mrs. Lucy Edmonds, both deceased. He was the owner/operator of Paul's Saw Sharpening and attended the Church of Christ in Mebane.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sisters, Mrs. Opal Goud and Mrs. Mamie Chilton, both of High Point, and Mrs. Ruby Gill of Duluth, Ga.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home after the service, and at other times at the home.
Mr. C.W. Hunter Jr.
GRAHAM - Mr. C.W. "Bill" Hunter Jr., 73, of 507 Weaver Way, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at his home after six weeks of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Zilla Mauney Hunter, who survives, and the son of Mr. Clarence William Hunter Sr. and Mrs. Ola Cheek Hunter, both deceased. He was a retired sports editor of the Times-News and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 306th Bomb Group. He was a member of the Alamance Senior Men's Golf Association, the Carolina's Golf Reporters Association and former member of the Burlington Moose Lodge. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Jill Hunter Jordan of Burlington; two sons, Mr. William Craig Hunter of High Point and Mr. Kevin Stuart Hunter of Burlington; a sister, Ms. Jacqueline Farmer of Graham; two brothers, Mr. Auman B. Hunter and Mr. Larry C. Hunter, both of Graham; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mescal H. Councilman and Mrs. Jean H. Worrell.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Graham by the Rev. Joe Hauser, retired United Methodist minister, and the Rev. James Rosser, pastor of Haw River Christian Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
