Mrs. Beverley B. Hill
MEBANE - Mrs. Beverley Jane Biggs Hill, 61, of 418 N. First St., died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after an illness of three weeks.
A native of Washington, D.C., she was the wife of the late Mr. Toney Conell Hill and the daughter of Mrs. Edith York Biggs, who survives, and the late Mr. Perry Biggs. She was a retired employee of Mebane Hosiery Co. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her mother of Idaho include two daughters, Mrs. Pattie Lee of Burlington and Mrs. Donna Brown of Prospect Hill; two sons, Mr. Donald Hill of Burlington and Mr. Tim Hill of Mebane; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Georgia) Howard of Haw River, Mrs. Archie (Carolyn) Westbrook of Mebane, and Mrs. Wayne (Julie) Nelson of Prospect Hill; one brother, Mr. Tommy Biggs of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, Mr. William Hill of Burlington; eight grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eastside Baptist Church by Dr. Perry Ross and the Rev. Chuck Perkins. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Miss Karinna Phillips
GRAHAM - Miss Karinna Tray Phillips, 2, of 403 Creek Side Court, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born in Orange County on Jan. 24, 1996, she was the daughter of Mr. John Andrews and Ms. Crystal Phillips. She was a Baptist.
Survivors other than her father of Durham and mother of the home include her maternal grandparents, Mr. Jesse Phillips of Graham and Ms. Cathy Phillips of Raleigh; and paternal grandparents, Mr. Pete Flack of Graham and Ms. Linda Oakley of Virginia.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Gene Cates. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home of Mr. Jesse Phillips, 861 Grey Fox Trail, Graham.

Mr. Thomas Griffin Sr.
SPRING LAKE - Mr. Thomas H. Griffin Sr., 71, of Spring Lake died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville after several years of failing health.
Born Dec. 17, 1926, he was a native of Cumberland County and a cabinet maker.
Survivors include five daughters, Ms. Rebecca G. Richardson and Ms. Kathy G. Butler, both of Graham, Ms. Pat G. Champion and Ms. Carolyn G. Roberson, both of Pittsboro, and Ms. Evelyn G. Garcia of Haw River; two sons, Mr. Thomas H. Griffin Jr. of Pittsboro and Mr. James R. Griffin of Graham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Elizabeth Newcomb
PROVIDENCE - Mrs. Elizabeth Purnell Newcomb, 78, formerly of 140 Charlie Fowlkes Jr. Road, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville.
Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Richard Edward Newcomb, and the daughter of Mr. William D. Purnell and Mrs. Julia Taylor Purnell, both deceased. She retired from Dan River Mills after 32 years of service and was a homemaker. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of Providence Fire Department. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 53 years.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Hillred M. Newcomb of Blanch and Mr. Anthony C. Newcomb of Danville, Va.; a brother, Mr. William R. Purnell of Providence; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Judith B. Patton; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Smith, the Rev. Keith Bowling and the Rev. David Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Hillred Newcomb, 254 Vernon Road, Blanch.

Mr. Charles Perkins
PROVIDENCE - Mr. Charles Woodrow Perkins, 83, of 940 Shady Grove Road, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at his home after several months of failing health.
Born in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Marie Carroll Perkins, whom he married April 25, 1995, who survives, and the late Mrs. Catherine Zaccaria Perkins, who died in 1990. He was the son of Mr. Charles A. Perkins and Mrs. Laura Hazelwood Perkins, both deceased. He attended Caswell County Schools and was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a member of the Francis Lewis Masonic Lodge No. 273 in Flushing, N.Y. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific area. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one sister, Ms. Bernice Slaughter of Newport News, Va.; a stepdaughter, Ms. Jessica Ann Long of Providence; and a stepson, Mr. John Long III of Providence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rufus Butner and the Rev. Ken Clark. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 325.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Hooper Funeral Home of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thelma Farrish
REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Thelma McLaughlin Hughes Farrish, 79, of 1417 Wagon Wheel Road, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 29, 1918, she was a native of Java, Va. She was the wife of Mr. Rush Farrish and the daughter of Mr. Lacy McLaughlin and Mrs. Della Stephens McLaughlin, both deceased. She was employed by Burlington Industries for many years before her retirement. She was a member of Eastern Star Pride of Locust Hill No. 490 and Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Brown of Reidsville, Mrs. Carolyn H. Bland of Largo, Md., and Mrs. Patricia Clark of Greensboro; four sons, Mr. Lacy Hughes of Yanceyville, Mr. Jimmy Hughes of Long Island, N.Y., Mr. James 'Red' Hughes of Pelham and Mr. Russell McLaughlin of Gibsonville; three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Totten of Reidsville, Mrs. Nancy Graves of White Plains, N.J., and Mrs. Jerlene Tinnin of Greensboro; one brother, Mr. Lacy McLaughlin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six stepsons, Mr. Earl Farrish, Mr. Anthony Farrish, Mr. Larry Farrish, the Rev. Alphonso Farrish, Mr. Leroy Farrish and Mr. Willie Moore, all of Reidsville; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Betty Blackwell of Reidsville; 39 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Blackwell Baptist church by the Rev. Zeb Kimber. Burial will be in the Trinity Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Fulton Funeral Home of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hunter Hobgood
BURLINGTON - Mr. Hunter Garland Hobgood, 76, of 2137 Wiggins St., died at 6:50 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, at The Hospice Home after four years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Granville County, he was the husband of Mrs. Augustine Goss Hobgood, who survives, and the son of Mr. Thomas Garland Hobgood and Mrs. Elizabeth Virginia Bynum Hobgood, both deceased. He was a retired master craftsman for Y.J. Furniture Co. and a member of Andrews Memorial Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Best of Durham and Mrs. Patricia Henderson of Hays; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Sharp of Quincy, Mass.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lelia Aiken and Mrs. Maryanna Thomas, both of Durham; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Deborah M. Mullis of Elon College; a stepson, Mr. Thomas H. Mann of Greensboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and one great-step grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor, and the Rev. Tom Worley, associate pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Etta C. Day
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Etta May Coyner Day, of 3844 Heritage Drive, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a serious illness of three weeks.
A native of Waynesboro, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Carlton Kenneth Day Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Simon Meredith Coyner and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Harper Coyner, both deceased. She was a retired bookkeeper with Kay-Day Tile and Carpet Co. She was a volunteer worker for Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Fesperman Sunday School Class, a former deacon and a former Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Kenneth Day of Charlotte and Mr. Carlton Kenneth Day Jr. of Catawba; a sister, Mrs. Charles H. Wells of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Phillip Myers, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening.
Memorials may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ, Renovation Fund, 513 W. Front St., Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mr. William T. James
GIBSONVILLE - Mr. William Thomas James, 68, of 501 Meadow St., died at 10:55 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998, at his home.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Shirley Bryan James, and the son of Mr. Amos Thornton James and Mrs. Eliza Beashers James, both deceased. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and later worked for P&S Machine Shop. He attended Piedmont Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Marie Hargrove of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mrs. Lora Lee Powers of Haw River; two sons, Mr. William T. James Jr. of Graham and Mr. John B. James of Julian; a sister, Mrs. Fleta Hart of Elon College; a brother, Mr. Jonas E. 'Mutt' James of Gibsonville; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. David James and Mr. Paul W. James.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David Braddy, pastor of Piedmont Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mr. James R. Price
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. James Ralph Price, 65, of 603 Veterans Drive, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Smith County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Etta Rutherford Price, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jess Brown Price and Mrs. Elizabeth Ferguson Price Allen, both deceased. He was a retired supervisor of Burlington Industries House Finishing Division. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a graduate of Burlington Business College. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Deborah Price Oakley of Greensboro; a son, Mr. James K. Price of Haw River; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Fred Hugh Price.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
