Mrs. Juanita W. Rumple
GRAHAM - Mrs. Juanita Ward Rumple, 85, of 311 W. Gilbreath St., died at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after four months of failing health.
A native of Johnson City, Tenn., she was the wife of Mr. George Clarence Rumple, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. George Ward and Mrs. Clara Ward, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington Industries after 25 years of employment and was a Baptist.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Wanda) Willets of Haw River, Mrs. Thomas (Brenda) Willoughby of Graham, Mrs. Robert (Gail) Oakley of Roxboro and Mrs. Bynum (Jill) Fox of Burlington; four sons, Mr. Richard L. Rumple and Mr. William T. Rumple, both of Graham, Mr. Donald L. Rumple and Mr. James I. Rumple, both of Burlington; her stepmother, Mrs. Daisy Foust of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Caulder and Mrs. Thelma Foust, both of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Willard Janey. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of Mr. James Rumple, 1197 N. Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington.
Mrs. Margaret Medlin
RALEIGH - Mrs. Margaret Medlock Medlin, 78, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999.
Born Feb. 25, 1921, in Atlanta, she was the wife for 36 years of Mr. William Hackney Medlin, who died in 1977, and the daughter of Mr. Thad Nicholas Medlock and Mrs. Annie Bullock Medlock, both deceased. She moved to Raleigh in the 1930s and graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1939. After a short working career, she became a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carol Ann Medlin Aldridge of Graham; two sons, Mr. William Gray Medlin of Raleigh and Mr. Robert Hackney Medlin; a brother, Mr. Raymond Medlock of Virginia Beach, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Ms. Lillian Trimble, Ms. Mildred Rochelle, Ms. Nell Dodd, Ms. Elizabeth Blackman, Ms. Mary Medlock and Ms. Dorothy Medlock; and two brothers, Mr. Milton “Buck” Medlock and Mr. Clifton Medlock.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will be at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary’s Street, from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Mabel C. Bowman
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mabel Chrisawn Bowman, 84, of 1735-B Malone Road, Village Green Condominiums, died at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Hamerick, she was the wife of the late Mr. Frank McDowell Bowman and the daughter of Mr. Brantley Chrisawn and Mrs. Rosa Westal Chrisawn, both deceased. She was a member of United Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Sandra Bowman Turek of the home; a sister, Mrs. Dixie Mayberry of Micaville; and a brother, Mr. Earl S. Chrisawn of Sumter, S.C.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Effie McCurry and Mrs. Winnie Murphy, and a brother, Mr. Emory Chrisawn.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

GRAHAM - Mr. Robert Lee Meredith, 48, of 21-C Cates Circle, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Aurora, Ill., he was the son of Mr. Harold Wayne Meredith and Mrs. Dorothy Marian Lorang Meredith, both deceased.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Robert Wayne Meredith.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Graham Memorial Park by the Rev. Bob Cauthren.

Mrs. Janie H. Adams
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Hawkins Adams, 89, of 1334 Parker St., died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health.
A native of Danville, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Harry Singleton Adams and the daughter of Mr. Joe Gammon and Mrs. Lizzie Gammon, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and the Missionary Society. She served for 45 years in the infant and toddler nursery as a caregiver.
Survivors include five daughters Mrs. Bobby O’dell (Peggy) Tingen and Mrs. David (Gay) Townes, both of Burlington, Ms. Barbara Johnson and Ms. Jane Scott, both of Graham, and Mrs. Willie L. (Juanita) Carter of Maccleany, Fla.; a son, Mr. James Franklin “Buddy” Adams of Gibsonville; 10 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jerry Wayne Adams; and a brother, Mr. Wesley Hawkins.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Glen Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Smith, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Stephenson, associate pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Ellen J. Blackmon
GRAHAM - Mrs. Ellen Jean Blackmon, 50, of 851 Sarah William Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of three weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Harvey B. Blackmon, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Ester M. Winstead, who survives, and the late Mr. Wilbert Winstead. She was disabled and a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors other than her husband of Graham and mother of the home include two sisters, Mrs. Ella Troxler and Mrs. Corene Graves, both of Burlington; and three brothers, Mr. Charlie Winstead and Mr. Willie Winstead, both of Burlignton, and Mr. Larry Winstead of Siler City.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Graham Memorial Park by Elder Reginald Brinkley of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
There will be no visitation. The family will be at the home.

Mr. Fletcher Strickland
GRAHAM - Mr. Fletcher Haywood Strickland, 76, of 805 Staley St., died at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a long illness.
A native of Chatham County, he was the son of Mr. Jimmy Strickland and Mrs. Mary Graves Strickland, both deceased. He was a member of Mount Zion AME Church of Graham.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Josephine Strickland of the home; two sons, Mr. Hayworth Strickland and Mr. Randy Strickland, both of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Eufina S. Rodgers and Mrs. Dora Lee Siler, both of Siler City, and Mrs. Alene S. Goldston of Goldston; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Donna Lynn Strickland; two sisters; four brothers; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Belview Baptist Church by the Rev. Alex Turner, pastor, the Rev. Walter James and the Rev. Harold Carr. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Mabel E. Murray
SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Mabel Euliss Murray, 79, of 3434 Spanish Oak Hill Road, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center after a critical illness of five days.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Jim H. Murray, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Eli Euliss and Mrs. Beulah Shepherd Euliss, both deceased. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sons, Mr. Archie Murray of Roxboro and Mr. Dwight Murray of Snow Camp; a sister, Mrs. Alene E. Dorsett of Burlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church by Dr. Charles Adams, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Robert L. Oakes
BURLINGTON - Mr. Robert Loren Oakes, 58, of 6236 Pagetown Road, died Thursday morning, Feb. 4, 1999, at his home after a short illness.
A native of Granville County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lacala Patterson Oakes and the son of Mr. Robert E. Oakes and Mrs. Ruth Faucette Oakes, both deceased. He was an assistant warehouse manager with D&S International and was formerly employed by Liberty Finance Co. for 28 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, where he was a former deacon and trustee.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alan (Samra) Bailey of Graham and Mrs. Brian (Robbyn) Harper of Gibsonville; four sisters, Mrs. Elmore (Mary) Gooch and Ms. Ruby Woodlief, both of Oxford, Mrs. Marshall (Joyce) Elliott of Buffalo Junction, Va., and Mrs. Bill (Irma) Stever of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a brother, Mr. John Thurman Oakes of Oxford; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Billy Oakes and Mr. Franklin Oakes.
The funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
