Mr. Calvin Q. Capps
GRAHAM - Mr. Calvin Quinton Capps, 76, of 1000 Pomeroy St., died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his home after three years of failing health and a critical illness of one week.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lula Mae Poe Capps, and the son of Mr. Lonnie Capps and Mrs. Carelletta McDaniels Capps, both deceased. He was retired from the N.C. State Division of Transportation after 43 years of service. He was Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include children by his first wife, two daughters, Mrs. Janet Griffin and Mrs. Carolyn Crabtree, both of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Larry Wayne Capps of Burlington and Mr. Rickey Dean Capps of Durham; one brother, Mr. Alfred Capps of Haw River; one sister, Mrs. Frances Southhall of Carlsbad, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Jay Kennett, Hospice chaplain. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Cemetery.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Ms. Vera D. Jeffries
GREENSBORO - Ms. Vera Delores Jeffries, 80, of 2614 E. Merrit Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Andrew Jeffries and Mrs. Pearl Nash Jeffries, both deceased.
Survivors include four sisters, Ms. Mary J. Enoch of Mebane, Ms. Nellie J. Ritchie of New Milford, Conn., Ms. Mildred J. Lanier of Greensboro; and Ms. Clarice J. Durrant of Holliswood, N.Y.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin's Chapel Baptist Church, N.C. 119 North, Mebane. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Martin's Chapel Baptist Church from 6 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Richard Enoch, 5324 N.C. 119 North, Mebane.

Mrs. Lottie Breedlove
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Lottie Thacker Breedlove, 87, of 7318 Abb Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Alamance Health Care after 14 months of failing health.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Mr. Ruffin Thacker and Mrs. Ida Barnes Thacker, both deceased. She was a farmer and a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Diane Toney of the home; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ms. Nellie Thacker, Ms. Gracie Thacker, Ms. Jeanette 'Jenky' May and Ms. Lillie Slade; and three brothers, Mr. Charlie Thacker, Mr. Henry Thacker and Mr. Walter Thacker.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. C. Allen Myers III, pastor of Apple's Chapel Christian Church, and the Rev. Lester Stanley, associate pastor of Apple's Chapel Christian Church. Burial will be in Greenview cemetery in Reidsville.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Hattie Stanfield
MEBANE - Mrs. Hattie Harvey Stanfield, 81, of 7828 N.C. 119 South, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Weldon Stanfield, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Harvey and Mrs. Betty Martin, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she was an usher and involved in the home missions.
Survivors include a son, Mr. James Howard Stanfield of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Stanfield Johnson of Greensboro; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Wilson. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Magadie Garland
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Magadie Garland of 1314 Stout St., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Hillhaven Health Care after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Walter Thompson, and the daughter of Mr. Jeff Thaxton and Mrs. Amy Pulliam, both deceased. She was a cook at Briggs Restaurant in Yanceyville, and a member of High Rock Baptist Church where she served in the choir, as secretary, missionary and usher.
Survivors include three daughter, Mrs. Grace Ulene Graves and Mrs. Audrey Jerene Gant, both of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Jean Garland of Burlington; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Dean Cobb.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at High Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Broadnax, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Annessa L. Fuller
BURLINGTON - Annessa La Shae Fuller, four-year-old daughter of Mr. Robert Lesure Fuller and Mrs. Mary Sue Tate Fuller, of 901 Ross St., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
She was a native of Orange County.
Survivors other than her parents include two sisters, Lisa Ann Fuller and Sharon Denise Fuller, both of Burlington; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mae Tate Yellock of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 5:45 to 6:45 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home of anaunt, C2 Terrace Apartments, Autumn Lanes, Burlington.
Mr. Frank Hatfield
BURLINGTON - Mr. Frank Hatfield of 730 Sharpe Road, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Maness Hatfield, and son of the late Mrs. Effie Bigelow. He was a farmer.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. Donald B. Ray
GREENSBORO - Mr. Donald Burton 'Corky' Ray, 65, of 2005 Kello Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1932, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Arlene Stanley Ray, who survives, and the son of Mr. Ivan Wiseman Ray and Mrs. Mary Durham Ray, both deceased. He was a semi-retired data processing computer operator with Cone Mills. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Christ Community Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. William Alan Ray of Asheboro; a sister, Ms. Frances Reed of Burlington; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Kimmons. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Sallie J. Kernodle dies at age 101
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Sallie Jones Kernodle, 101, of 3546 N.C. 87 North, died at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of three days.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Roy Watson Kernodle, who died in 1970, and the daughter of Mr. Henry Lewis Jones and Mrs. Sarah Ann Roberson Jones, both deceased. She taught school for several years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Altamahaw-Ossipee Home Extension Club for more than 60 years. She was the oldest living member of Bethlehem Christian Church and was a member of the Share and Care Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clifton (Jane) McPherson of Elon College and Mrs. Thomas B. (Nancy) Sain of Burlington; three sons, Mr. William H. Kernodle of Salisbury, Mr. J. Wayne Kernodle and Mr. R. Staley Kernodle, both of Elon College; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Ruth S. Jones and Ms. Luna J. Moore; three brothers, Mr. John B. Jones, Mr. Thomas A. Jones and Mr. James N. Jones; and a step grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Eugene Wilkerson
BALDWIN, Wis. - Mr. Eugene Leroy Wilkerson, 76, of 800 Main St., died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight months of failing health.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dorothy Eleanor Menges Wilkerson, and the son of Mr. Harry Forrest Wilkerson and Mrs. Lelia Mae Godwin Wilkerson, both deceased. He was a retired postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a lieutenant with the 60th Signal Company during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Christian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy L. Draver of Burlington and Mrs. Cindy J. Eller of Gibsonville; four sons, Mr. Richard A. Wilkerson of Chisago, Minn., Mr. Allen D. Wilkerson of St. Louis, Mr. Steven Eugene Myers of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Mr. Michael Kelley Meyers of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
