Mr. Darrell Pendergraph
BURLINGTON — Mr. Darrell Wayne Pendergraph, 50, of 1134 Riverview Drive, died Sunday morning, Dec. 20, 1998, at his home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. William Otto "Penny" Pendergraph and Mrs. Joyce Harrell Pendergraph, who both survive. He was employed by Great American Knitting and was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his parents of Burlington, include a daughter, Mrs. Cyndi Turner of Elon College; a son, Mr. William Darrell "Billy" Pendergraph of Graham; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Brenda Kay Pendergraph.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs and the Rev. Jack Phillips. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times, at the home of the parents, 2245 Melrose Drive, Burlington.
Mrs. Beverly Durham
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Beverly Hanna Durham, 83, of 221 N. Cobb Ave., died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. James Cicero Durham, Jr., who died in 1954, and the daughter of Mr. Harry Tracy Hanna and Mrs. Adelaide Fowler Hanna, both deceased.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Jane Durham of the home, Ms. Lisa Durham of Dallas, Mrs. Kay Durham Howe of Burlington, and Mrs. Beverly Durham Wheat of Garland, Texas; four sons, Mr. James Cicero Durham, III and Mr. Charles Gordon Durham, both of Burlington, Mr. Carl Hanna Durham of Baltimore, and Mr. Peter Jeffrey Durham of the home; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. David Lawrence Durham.
There will be no funeral service.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. William Dennis, Jr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. William E. "Bill" Dennis, Jr., 62, of 717 S. Sellars Mill Road, died at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at his home after several years of failing health.
A native of Lynchburg, S.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Carolyn F. Dennis, who survives, and the late Mrs. Janice Rae Dennis. He was the son of Mr. William E. Dennis, Sr. and Mrs. Mildred McNeese Crowder, both deceased. He was the retired owner and operator of Bill Dennis Custom Painting. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Bragg. He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include a step-son, Mr. Joel Cardwell of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Jeanine Faulkner, Mrs. Sharon Amos and Mrs. Cindy Bruner, all of Graham; a brother, Mr. Michael Crowder of Burlington; two step-sisters, Mrs. Edith Gilmore of Pittsboro and Mrs. Peggy Horne of Burlington; two step-brothers, Mr. Bud Crowder and Mr. J.B. Crowder, both of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. William Jeffrey Dennis; a sister, Ms. Brenda Couturier; his step-father, Mr. Burton E. Crowder; and a step-sister, Ms. Barbara Dixon.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Wesleyan Church of Burlington, by the Rev. Ronnie Jones. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. Ralph N. Roney, Sr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. Ralph Nathaniel Roney, Sr., 85, of 1653 N.C. 62, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health, four weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband for 61 years to Mrs. Thelma Terrell Roney, who survives, and the son of Mr. Clyde Ruffin Roney and Mrs. Bennie Boone Roney, both deceased. He retired from Barnwell Brothers and Associated Transport after 34 years of service as a truck driver. He was a member of Teamsters Local 391. He was a charter member of Glencoe Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include three daughters, Mrs. Dean (Bennie) Hall of Burlington, Mrs. Roy (Vickie) Shepherd of Whitsett, and Mrs. Randy (Cheryl) Massey of Burlington; a son, Mr. Ralph Nathaniel Roney, Jr. of Haymarket, Va., and Mr. Clyde "Buck" Roney of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Pickard of Burlington; seven half sisters, Mrs. Virginia Kernodle, Mrs. Betty Lou Cheek, Mrs. Delores Boone, Mrs. Shelby Aldridge, Mrs. Becky Jarvis, Mrs. Doris Perry and Mrs. Nancy Thomas, all of Burlington; a half brother, Mr. Herbert F. Roney of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Alene Christopher and Mrs. Pauline Caudle; three brothers, Mr. William Chelsey Roney, Mr. Paul Boone Roney and Mr. Curtis Ruffin Roney; and a half brother, Mr. James "Duke" Roney.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Glencoe Baptist Church by the Rev. Darrell Massey, pastor; the Rev. Felton Massey; and the Rev. Larry Janey. The body will be taken to the home at 11 a.m. today and the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. Edwin D. Ellington
ZEBULON — Mr. Edwin "Ed" Delaven Ellington, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998.
Born Oct. 14, 1916, in Graham, he was the husband for 56 years to Mrs. Dorothy Horton Ellington, who survives. He graduated from State College in 1940 with a degree in agricultural engineering. He taught for many years at Wendell High School and Wakelon High School in Zebulon. He retired from Wake County Schools as superintendent of buildings and grounds. In civic duties, he served as president of the Zebulon Rotary Club, was a Paul Harris Fellow and remained a member for 50 years. He was a deacon of Zebulon Baptist Church and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir for more than 50 years.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include a son, Mr. Frederick Horton Ellington of Zebulon; a sister, Ms. Edith Morrow of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Eugene Ellington of Mebane; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday at Zebulon Baptist Church. Burial was in Horton Family Cemetery.

Mr. J.D. Beckom
GIBSONVILLE — Mr. J.D. Beckom, 81, of 616 Smith St., died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Mr. Samuel E. Beckom and Mrs. Mary Ellen Hackett Beckom, both deceased. He was a retired machinist from Western Electric Corp., and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of the Christian Life Center.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Kenneth F. Beckom of Odenville, Ala.; a brother, Mr. Samuel E. Beckom, Jr. of Kallen, Texas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Gary Ronald Beckom.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington, by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington one hour before the service.
Mr. C. W. Whitt, Jr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. C.W. Whitt, Jr., 72, of 3520 S. Church St., died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health.
A native of Surry County, he was the husband of Mrs. Eleanor J. Whitt, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charlie William Whitt, Sr. and Mrs. Minnie Marie Gravitt Whitt, both deceased. He was retired from Ed Alexander Fabrics and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mark’s Reformed Church and the Men’s Bible Class.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include three daughters, Mrs. Deborah Whitt Sharpe and Mrs. Lisa Whitt Oakley, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Amy Whitt Weaver of Elon College; two sisters, Mrs. Ila Mae Hudson and Mrs. Ruby W. Longest, both of Burlington; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two sisters, Mrs. Marguriette Gilmore and Mrs. Doris Norris; and a brother, Mr. Jimmy R. Whitt.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at St. Mark’s Reformed Church by the Rev. Robert M. Disher, Jr., pastor, and the Rev. Ben Bishop, associate pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

SUMMERFIELD — Mr. Paul E. Terrell, Sr., 78, of 3678 Oak Ridge Road, died at 3:41 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital’s Extended Care Unit in Greensboro after two years of failing health. He was formerly of Mebane.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nellie Elmore Terrell, who survives, and the late Mrs. Mary Alice Terrell. He was the son of Mr. Charlie A. Terrell and Mrs. Olive Dodson Terrell, both deceased. He was retired from Burlington Industries.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include a son, Mr. Paul E. Terrell, Jr. of Mebane; four step-daughters, Mrs. Connie Carter of McLeansville, Mrs. Cindy Sizemore of Graham, Mrs. Donna Atkins of Summerfield, and Mrs. Becky Whorton of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Seager and Mrs. Ethel Murray, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Cleo Crenshaw of Chapel Hill; a brother, Mr. C.A. Terrell of Mebane; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Long’s Chapel Church Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Webb, pastor of Northwest Baptist Church in Greensboro.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening and at other times, at the home.

Mrs. Jennifer A. Neal
GREENSBORO — Mrs. Jennifer Ann Neal, of 4 Bennington Court, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. She was a former resident of Graham.
A native of Winston-Salem, she was the wife of Mr. George Neal, Jr., who survives. She was a real estate agent for Seawell Realtors. She was member of AWBA and the Board of Realtors.
Survivors, other than her husband of the home, include a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Jennifer) Bruton of Greensboro; a son, Mr. George Neal III of Greensboro; a sister, Ms. Susan Bowler of Wisconsin; and two brothers, Mr. John Easterling of Gastonia, and Mr. Jeff Easterling of Iowa.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
