Mrs. Willie M.B. Patterson
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Willie May Brooks Patterson, 93, 7246 Shoe Road, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, after one year of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Joseph G. Patterson, Sr. She was a lifetime member of Springwood Presbyterian Church, a member of the adult Sunday school class, former secretary of the Women’s Bible Class, and a former member of the church choir.
She is survived by a son, Mr. Joseph “Pat” Patterson, Jr. of Burlington; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons, one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. W. Arnold Brooks and Callie May Brooks, and by a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Springwood Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Johnathan Freeman. The burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6 to 8 this evening. At other times, they will be at the residence of Mr. Joseph Patterson, Jr., 7248 Shoe Road, Burlington.

Mr. Daniel Crisp
HILLSBOROUGH — Mr. Daniel Crisp of Brookshire Nursing Center, 57, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998.
He was native of Orange County.
He is survived by a daughter, Ms. LaShondra Crisp of Durham; five brothers, Mr. Clyde Crisp of Washington, D.C.; Mr. Melvin Crisp and Mr. Robert Crisp, both of Hillsborough; Edward Crisp of Mebane; and Clarence Crisp of Chapel Hill; and four sisters, Ms. Emily Poole of Burlington, Mrs. Alice Roberts of Derwood Md., and Ms. Janet Crisp and Ms. Mary Crisp, both of Hillsborough.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Ed Hassell Crisp and Mrs. Mary Wagstaff Crisp.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lipscombe Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Kevin Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the Chavis-Parker Funeral Home.
Ms. Minnie M. Swing
LEXINGTON — Ms. Minnie Morris Swing, 85, of 971 Beck’s Church Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at the Carolina House.
Born July 11, 1913, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of Mr. Lee Colonel Morris and Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Sink Morris, both deceased. She was an active member of Beck’s United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Tempie) Almstead and Ms. Becky Murphy, both of Lexington; a son, Mr. Dallas Ray Swing of Lexington; four sisters, Ms. Zella Mae Burkhart, Ms. Dorothy Tysinger, Ms. Caroline Tysinger and Ms. Jo Ann Allred, all of Lexington; three brothers, Mr. Vernon Morris of Lexington, Mr. Larry Morris of Thomasville and Mr. Bryce Morris of Louisiana; five grandchildren, one of whom lives in Graham; and three great-grandchildren, one of whom lives in Graham.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Florence McLeod; and two brothers, Mr. Willie Morris and Mr. Calvin Morris.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Beck’s United Church of Christ by the Rev. Melvin Palmer, the Rev. Bobby Bond, the Rev. Banks Shepherd and Chaplain James Garrison of Hospice. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Tempie Almstead, Palmer Road, Lexington.

Mr. Eugene McFarling
BLANCH — Mr. Reuben Eugene McFarling, 56, of 604 Blanch Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at his home after several months of failing health.
Born Aug. 7, 1942, in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Ms. Rubie McFarling Stadler. He attended Caswell County Schools and was a supervisor for Hanover Mills. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Donna M. Dalton of Blanch; two sons, Mr. Ricky McFarling of Blanch and Mr. Stan McFarling of Danville, Va.; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville, by the Rev. Richard Morris and the Rev. Kenneth McFarling. Burial will be in the McFarling Family Cemetery in Blanch.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening, and at other times, at the home.
Mrs. Evelyn B. Ragland
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Evelyn Bivens Ragland, 75, of 1413 Ashe St., died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of two weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James Allen Ragland and the daughter of Mr. Charles Walter Bivens and Mrs. Beulah Welch Bivens, both deceased. She was a retired medical secretary and was formerly associated with Dr. W.D. Rippy and Dr. Allen D. Tate. She was a charter member of Northside Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Jill Meade of Graham; a son, Mr. James Allen Ragland, Jr. of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Walter Edwin “Dink” Bivens of Burlington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Thomas Bivens.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Northside Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Daniel Bartel. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service, and at other times, at the home of the son, 1420 Sheffield Court, Burlington.

Mr. John E. Harrison
YANCEYVILLE — Mr. John Edward Harrison, 49, of 1384 Old N.C. 86 North, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Feb. 7, 1949, in Caswell County, he was the son of Mrs. Maggie McCain Harrison, who survives, and the late Mr. Herbert John Harrison. He was employed by Brown & Wooten in Burlington, and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors, other than his mother of the home, include four sisters, Mrs. Janie H. Flippen of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Hattie H. Murray of Yanceyville, Mrs. Catherine H. Williams of Ruffin and Mrs. Myrtle H. Green of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five brothers, Mr. Herbert Harrison, Jr. of Burlington, Mr. James Junior Harrison of Eden, Mr. Abraham Harrison of Graham, Mr. William Harrison of Salisbury and Mr. Willie Harrison of Haw River.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. P.D. Medley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Friday evening and at other times, at the home.
Mr. William D. Ham, Jr.
GRAHAM — Mr. William Daniel “Bill” Ham, Jr., 73, of 1808 Wood Ave., died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, after four years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nellie Young Ham, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Daniel Ham, Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Matthews Ham, both deceased. He was a retired textile worker and supervisor and was a former Burlington City School Guard. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a former deacon.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Bonnie) Reynolds and Ms. Janet Ham Allred, both of Burlington; a son, Mr. William D. “Danny” Ham, III of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Aliene Allen of Ramseur and Miss Rachel Ham of Asheboro; a brother, Mr. Charles Ham of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Eldridge Ham.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Swinney, pastor, and the Rev. Don Pegg. Burial will be in the Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, from 6 to 8 Saturday evening, and at other times, at the home of the son, 1010 Pomeroy St., Graham.
Mrs. Cassie B. Moore
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Cassie Martin Bowen Moore, 80, of 1987 Hilton Road, died at noon Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after two years of failing health.
A native of Charlotte County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. John Moore, and the daughter of Mr. Willis Johnson Martin and Mrs. Effie Lloyd Martin, both deceased. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Mary Lee Bowen McCorkle of Burlington, Mrs. Patsy Bowen Salazar of Chesapeake, Va., Mrs. Bonnie Moore Johnson of Auburn, Ga. and Mrs. Jennifer Moore Silvers of Swannanoa; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Doris L. Best
PITTSBORO — Mrs. Doris Lakin Best, 96, Pittsboro Christian Village, Pittsboro, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, after a sudden illness.
A native of Deadwood, N.D., formerly of Rendall Street in Burlington, she was the wife of Dr. David Raymond Best, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Ireland Street Chapel.
Survivors, other than her husband of the home, include a daughter, Mrs. Beverly B. Hester of Hurdle Mills, a sister, Mrs. Neva L. Brod of Bristol, Va., and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred DeVere Lakin and Gertrude Atkinson Lakin.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home by Mr. Charles R. Andrews of Shannon Hills Bible Chapel, Greensboro. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
