Mr. Vernon Lee Porter
GRAHAM — Mr. Vernon Lee Porter, 62, 5624 N.C. 87 South, Graham, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at home after one year of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Janice Johnson Porter, who survives. Of the Baptist faith, he was the owner and operator of a local appliance business.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) McKinney of Whitsett, and Mrs. Gary (Diane) Moore of Mebane, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Pearl Lindsey Porter and Mrs. Maedell Morton Porter.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. David Jackson, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Graham. The burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Mr. Raymond W. Hackler
EFLAND — Mr. Raymond W. Hackler, 81, 3325 U.S. Highway 70 East, Efland, died at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998 at Durham Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
A native of Grayson County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Maggie Crabtree Hackler. He was retired from the Orange County School System. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Efland United Methodist Church.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Cecil of Efland; four sons, Mr. Douglas Hackler and Mr. Paige Hackler, both of Efland; Mr. Gary Hackler of Graham, and Mr. Dennis Hacker of Mebane. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Laurie Delp of Virginia; one brother, Ralph Hackler of Greensboro; two step-daughters, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Elbert Kinley Hackler and Mrs. Rosa Wright Hackler.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Efland United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jimmy Weaver and James Boyd. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at other times, at the home.
Memorials may be made to Efland United Methodist Church Memorial Association.

Mrs. Willie M.B. Patterson
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Willie May Brooks Patterson, 93, 7246 Shoe Road, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, after one year of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Joseph G. Patterson, Sr. She was a lifetime member of Springwood Presbyterian Church, a member of the adult Sunday school class, former secretary of the Women’s Bible Class, and a former member of the church choir.
She is survived by a son, Mr. Joseph “Pat” Patterson, Jr. of Burlington; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons, one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. W. Arnold Brooks and Callie May Brooks, and by a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Springwood Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Johnathan Freeman. The burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6 to 8 this evening. At other times, they will be at the residence of Mr. Joseph Patterson, Jr., 7248 Shoe Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to the Springwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, Springwood Church Road, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.

Mr. Daniel Crisp
HILLSBOROUGH — Mr. Daniel Crisp of Brookshire Nursing Center, 57, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998.
He was native of Orange County.
He is survived by a daughter, Ms. LaShondra Crisp of Durham; five brothers, Mr. Clyde Crisp of Washington, D.C.; Mr. Melvin Crisp and Mr. Robert Crisp, both of Hillsborough; Edward Crisp of Mebane; and Clarence Crisp of Chapel Hill; and four sisters, Ms. Emily Poole of Burlington, Mrs. Alice Roberts of Derwood, Md., and Ms. Janet Crisp and Ms. Mary Crisp, both of Hillsborough.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Ed Hassell Crisp and Mrs. Mary Wagstaff Crisp.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lipscombe Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Kevin Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the Chavis-Parker Funeral Home.

Mr. Brian Whiteford
HAW RIVER — Mr. Brian James Whiteford, 28, of 702 Lyndon Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, after a short critical illness.
A native of Barron County, Wis., he was the son of Mr. Gordon Bruce and Mrs. Laura Martha Weise Whiteford, who survive. He graduated from East Forsyth High School in Kernersville and received a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was employed as a pharmacist with CVS Pharmacy on South Church Street for more than four years. He participated in the Transplant Olympics in Columbus, Ohio, and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Survivors other than his parent of Haw River include a brother, Mr. Todd G. Whiteford of Tucson, Ariz.; and a maternal grandfather, Mr. Harry Weise of Almena, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. David B. Whiteford.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert A. Bremer, pastor of Advent Lutheran Church in Chapel Hill, and the Rev. Ted Strelow, pastor emeritus.
The employees of CVS Pharmacy will sit together during the service.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.
Memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 230 Erwin Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514.

Mrs. Minerva W. Hunter
FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Minerva Whitted Hunter, 104, of 6228 Milford Road, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Cape Fear Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James E. Hunter, and the daughter of Mr. Andrew Whitted and Mrs. Annie Whitted Whitted, both deceased. She was a homemaker, nurse, teacher and insurance agent. She was a member of White Level Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn H. Smith of San Antonio, Mrs. Carol McDonald of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Earlene Butler of Fayetteville and Mrs. Ava Poteat of Mebane.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Mr. James Bifea Hunter, Mr. Copeland Hunter, Mr. Andrew Hunter and Mr. Calvin Hunter; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Spaulding, Mrs. Lillian Parker and Mrs. Maude Holt; and a brother, Mr. Samuel Greene.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday, at Mebane First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James A. Belle, pastor of Haymount Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, and Elder Darrius Dixon of White Level Primitive Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Mr. Joseph D. Ring
SNOW CAMP — Mr. Joseph D. “Joe” Ring, 61, of 6320 Bass Mountain Road, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Randolph County, he was the husband of Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Butler Ring, and the son of Mrs. Bonnie Britt Ring Conklin, who survives, and the late Mr. Glenn M. Ring. He was a former employee of Burlington House Finishing. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, and mother of Elon College, include three daughters, Mrs. Toni Ring Ross of Burlington, Ms. Sandra K. Ring Bowman of Wilson and Ms. Cyndi Ring of Browns Summit; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Ethel Ring Sharpe of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Mr. Larry A. Ring of Pinnacle; a step-sister, Mrs. Mickie Renigar of Gibsonville; a step-brother, Mr. Richard Conklin of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. David G. Ring.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. M. Kenneth Wilson.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home of the mother, Mrs. Bonnie Conklin, 2825 N.C. 87 North, Elon College.

Mr. Jose L. Tiznado, Sr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. Jose Luiz Tiznado, 28, of 501-5 W. Ten Road, Efland, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Ixtlan Del Rio, Nayarit, Mexico, he was the husband of Mrs. Maria Del Rio Fugio Elias-Isaac, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Juana Carrillo, who survives, and the late Mr. Antioco Tiznado. He was a carpenter and a Catholic.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Mexico, include two sons, Mr. Jose Luis Tiznado, Jr. and Mr. Adrian Enesto Tiznado, both of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Esperanza Garcia of California, and Miss Refugio Tiznado and Miss Rosario Tiznado, both of Mexico; and three brothers, Mr. Pedro Tiznado of California and Mr. Francisco Tiznado and Mr. Juan Tiznado, both of Burlington.
McClure Funeral Service in Burlington, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Nancy F. Beaver
GRAHAM — Mrs. Nancy Foushee Beaver, 69, of 503 Stokes Road, died at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a long illness.
A native of Person County, she was the wife of Mr. James “Connie” C. Beaver, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Haywood Foushee and Mrs. Elizabeth Russell Foushee, both deceased. She was a member of Beacon Baptist Church.
Survivors, other than her husband of the home, include a son, Mr. Keith C. Beaver of Haw River; a brother, Mr. M.N. Foushee of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham, by the Rev. Greg Barkman, pastor of Beacon Baptist Church. Burial will be in Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Graham, from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home.

Mr. Albert L. Nichols, Jr.
BURLINGTON — Mr. Albert LeRoy Nichols, Jr., 64, of 506 Storey St., died at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a two-year illness.
A native of Bladen County, he was the husband of Mrs. Roseann West Nichols, who survives, and the son of Mr. Albert LeRoy Nichols, Sr. and Mrs. Martha Hathaway Nichols, both deceased. He was a retired self-employed brickmason and a member of Hope Baptist Church in Haw River.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include three daughters, Mrs. Teresa N. Ashe of Decatur, Ala., Mrs. Annette N. Tidwell of Burlington, and Ms. Angie West of Liberty; one son, Mr. Albert LeRoy “Pay Roy” Nichols, III of Burlington; three sisters, Ms. Joyce Nichols of Snow Camp, Mrs. Ruth Eastwood of Burlington, and Mrs. Lizzie Salmon of Elon College; five grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Lisa Dawn Nichols; two sisters, Mrs. Leoma Porter and Mrs. Ruby Porter; and one brother, Mr. Bruce Nichols.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Fredrick Bunts, pastor of Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home.
