Mr. Thomas Allred, Sr.

BURLINGTON — Mr. Thomas Lee Allred, Sr., 83, of 211 Newton Road, Rose Hill, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Burgaw Hospital after a critical illness of six months. He was a former resident of Burlington.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Recie Lockerman Allred, who survives, and the late Mrs. Margaret Park Allred. He was the son of Mr. Joseph Ezra Allred and Mrs. Susan Tate Allred, both deceased. He was retired from P. Lorillard Co. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Concord United Christian Church in Caswell County.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include two sons, Mr. Thomas L. Allred, Jr. of Gibsonville, and Mr. David P. Allred of Elon College; a step-son, Mr. Jim Teachey of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Frances Daniels of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Tennon Allred of Mebane; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. JoAnne Winn Allred; two brothers, Mr. Loftin Allred and Mr. Roy Allred; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Graham Memorial Park by the Rev. Larry McCarty, pastor of Baynes Baptist Church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times, at the home of Mr. Thomas Allred, Jr., 50 Brighton Court, Gibsonville.

Mrs. Mertie W. Foster

BURLINGTON — Mrs. Mertie West Foster, 92, of 2709 Eldermont St., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home.
Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Brodie B. Wade

CHAPEL HILL — Mr. Brodie Banks Wade, 74, of 1602 E. Franklin St., died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Rehabilitation of Chapel Hill, after several years of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, he was the son of Mr. Willie Arthur Wade and Mrs. Fannie Webster Wade, both deceased. He was retired from White Furniture Co. in Mebane, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. Brodie Wade, Jr. of Snow Camp, Mr. Donald Wade of Burlington, Mr. Frankie Wade of Elon College, and Mr. Larry Wade of Haw River; a sister, Mrs. Louise Scott of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Willie “Billy” Wade, Jr. of Mebane; a step-son, Mr. Ronnie Wade of Haw River; five grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Caswell County.
The family will be at the home of Mr. Frankie Wade, 4121 Jimmy Bowles Road, Elon College.
Memorials may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Suite 112, Durham, N.C. 27707.

Mr. Vernon Browning

BURLINGTON — Mr. Vernon Browning, 76 of 302 Apple St., died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Della Upsher Browning, who survives, and the son of Mr. Elijah Browning and Mrs. Ruth Shavers Browning, both deceased. He was retired from the City of Burlington Sanitation Department, and was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include one son, Mr. Stephen L. Browning of Gibsonville; three daughters, Mrs. Annie Doris Hunter and Mrs. Deborah Denice Long, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Ruth Laverne Long of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl B. Herring of Burlington, and Mrs. Odessa B. Hackett of Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Larry Donnell Browning; and a brother, Mr. Louis Browning.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ by the Rev. Larry Covington, pastor. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Ruth Long at 500 Cornelia Drive, Graham.

Mrs. Ruby Odell Greene Morgan

CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Ruby Odell Greene Morgan, 96, of Charlotte, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001.
Born May 21, 1904, in Union County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Reece Hampton Morgan, Sr. They were married for almost 52 years. She was the daughter of Mr. Martin Leonard Greene and Mrs. Dora Emeline Mullis Greene, both deceased. She was retired from W.T. Grant Department Store in Charlotte and was a member of Shiloh Trulight Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Ruby Josephine Morgan Todd of Conover and Ms. Linda Ann Morgan Archer of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Reece Hampton Morgan, Jr. of Matthews and Mr. Charles Linwood Morgan, Sr. of Newton; a sister, Ms. Delphia Eunice Greene Freeman; three brothers, Mr. Van Alexander Greene, Mr. Hoyle Wilson Greene, Sr. and Mr. Roy Glenn Greene, Sr.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Mary Blanche Greene Bartlett and Ms. Mayme Agnes Greene Crowell; four brothers, Mr. Martin Leonard Greene, Jr., Mr. Conley Franklin Greene, Sr., Mr. Claude James Greene and Mr. Ralph Edsel Greene, Sr.; three infant siblings; and two infant great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, 6223 Love Mill Road, Monroe, by Brother Rommie Purser of Shiloh Trulight Church.
The family will be at Shiloh Trulight Church, Trulight Church Road, Mint Hill, from 12:30 to 2:30 before the service.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh Trulight Church, 9920 Mill Grove Road, Indian Trail, N.C. 28079.

Mr. William Keith Clapp

GRAHAM — Mr. William Keith Clapp, 83, of 6506 Whitney Road, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at his home after a short illness.
A native of Burlington, he was the husband of Mrs. Elsie Pentecost Clapp, who survives, and the son of Mr. Benjamin Kenneth Clapp and Mrs. Mary Effie Whitt Clapp, both deceased. He was a retired airline pilot for Panagra/Braniff International and was a member of South Miami Lutheran Church.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include a daughter, Mrs. Emily Clapp Cecchi of Miami; three sons, Mr. William Keith Clapp, Jr. of Charlotte, Mr. David Lee Clapp and Mr. Daniel Monroe Clapp, both of Ona, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington, by the Rev. Jay Kinnette.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, one hour before the service and at other times, at the home.

Mrs. Irene Wilkerson Hunter

GRAHAM — Mrs. Irene Wilkerson Hunter, 96, formerly of E. McAden St., died at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb 2, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Hoyt W. Hunter, and the daughter of Mr. James Harper Wilkerson and Mrs. Daisy Mae Thompson Wilkerson, both deceased. She was retired from textile manufacturing and was a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Ivan “Sam” Hunter and Mr. John Hunter, both of Graham, and Mr. Frank Hunter of Burlington; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Lou Ella Whitfield, Ms. Pearl Pugh and Ms. Ruth Black; three brothers, Mr. Johnny Wilkerson, Mr. Clarence Wilkerson and Mr. Paul Wilkerson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore’s Chapel cemetery by Dr. Donald Carter, pastor of Baptist Temple.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, from 1:30 to 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Ralph Henry Wade

BURLINGTON — Mr. Ralph Henry Wade, 84, of 510 Morgan Terrace, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Modelia Kimber Wade, and the son of Mr. Matthew Wade and Mrs. Fannie Lattie Wade, both deceased.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Jennette Wade of Bethesda, Md.; a son, Mr. Elijah M. Wade of Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Udilc Satterfield of Burlington, Mrs. Doris Hayes and Ms. Josephine Wade, both of Madison and Mrs. Sarah Hairston of Stoneville; two brothers, Mr. Robert L. Wade of Baltimore and Mr. Raeford Wade of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Frank Wade and Mr. James Mosley.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sweet Gum Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Hairston, Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 6 to 7 this evening and at other times, at the home.

Mrs. Margaret Pearson Deese Payne

GRAHAM — Mrs. Margaret Pearson Deese Payne, 87, of 4817 N.C. 54, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home after three months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George C. “Tom” Payne and the late Mr. Crawford C. Deese. She was the daughter of Mr. Charlie Pearson and Mrs. Lee Annie Isley Pearson, both deceased. She was retired from Randon and was a member of Mebane Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara West of Canton, Ga. and Mrs. Kaye Kenn of Roswell, Ga.; a son, Mr. Charles D. “Buddy” Deese of Semora; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Foushee of Graham, Mrs. Vera Terrell of Efland and Mrs. Catherine Thomas of Mebane; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham, by the Rev. Mike Shannon, Hospice chaplain. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, from 4 to 6 this evening and at other times, at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mr. Giles Wesley Mills

RUFFIN — Mr. Giles Wesley Mills, 90, of 2980 Guerrant Springs Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
He was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Page Mills, who survives. They were married for 63 years.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include two sons, Mr. Wesley (Elizabeth) Mills of Gibsonville, and Mr. Steve (Carol) Mills of Mayodan; a sister, Ms. Ruby M. French of Reidsville; a brother, Mr. Willie Mills of Danville, Va.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville from 7 to 8 this evening and at other times, at the home.
