Mr. Winford R. Wellons

ALAMANCE - Mr. Winford Robert 'Wimpy' Wellons, 79, of 2840 Cardinal Lane, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Alamance Health Care in Burlington after four months of failing health, one week critical.

A native of Goldsboro, he was the husband of Mrs. Myrtle Smith Wellons, who died in 1974, and Mrs. Margaret Ann Wellons, who survives. He was the son of Mr. William E. Wellons and Mrs. Mamie Dickerson Wellons, both deceased. He was employed for 33 years with Kayser-Roth Hosiery and was retired from Baker Cammack Hosiery. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Barbara Buckner of Burlington and Mrs. Cindy Albright of Graham; two sisters, Ms. Annie Lee Eanes of Burlington and Ms. Elizabeth 'Lib' Bulloch of Raleigh; one brother, Mr. Wilbert Wellons of Goldsboro; four step grandchildren; and five great-step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Irene Hall and Mrs. Blanche Roney; and two brothers, Mr. Charles Wellons and Mr. Hubert Wellons.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Steve Loy, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and the Rev. Raymond Webb, former pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Maude Thompson

GRAHAM - Mrs. Maude Holt Thompson, 90, of 3922 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after six months of failing health, three days critical.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charlie Thompson, and the daughter of Mr. James Lee Holt and Mrs. Julie Elizabeth Wood Holt, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Bible Sunday School class.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Price of Greensboro and Mrs. Sara Phillips of Graham; a son, Mr. Arthur Thompson of Graham; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Dewey Lee Thompson; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Loy and Mrs. Ida Loy; and five brothers, Mr. Luther Holt, Mr. Ralph Holt, Mr. Frank Holt, Mr. Fred Holt and Mr. Burl Holt.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Sara Phillips, 3908 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, Graham.

Mrs. Florence Friesinger

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Florence Estes Freisinger, 82, of 100 Wade Coble Drive, died at 7:40 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Twin Lakes Retirement Center.

A native of Bryson City, she was the wife of the late Mr. Carl Robert Friesinger Jr., and the daughter of Mr. James Estes and Mrs. Molly Raby Estes, both deceased. She was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Carl Robert Friesinger III of High Point and Mr. Jim Friesinger of Wake Forest; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Crisp of Waynesville; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Alamance Memorial Park, by Sister Cathy Fanslau, chaplain of Twin Lakes Retirement Center, and the Rev. Henry Sink, pastor of Sharon Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mr. Clyde O. Belangia

NEW BERN - Mr. Clyde Oscar Belangia, 82, of 7210 U.S. 70 East, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Craven Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Clyde O. Belangia Jr. of Mebane and Mr. Robert T. Belangia of New Bern; a daughter, Ms. Betsy Davis of Kinston; a brother, Mr. Ray Belangia of New Bern; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Pollock-Wells and Best Funeral Home by the Rev. Harry Bryan. Burial will be in Greenleaf Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Croatan Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 7028 N.C. 70 East, New Bern, N.C. 28560.

Mrs. Margaret K. Rich

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Margaret Keck Rich, 90, of 5706 N.C. 62 South, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight years of failing health, four days critical.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife for 65 years of Mr. W.A. Rich, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Charlie Keck and Mrs. Emma Cooper Keck, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery and was a member of Low's Lutheran Church, where she was the oldest living member and a former Sunday school teacher.

Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Janet Linens, Mrs. Bernice Sharpe and Mrs. Frances 'Frankie' Beeker, all of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Kennedy of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. Dan Keck, Mr. Byron Keck, Mr. Raymond Keck and Mr. Charlie Keck.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Tim Martin, pastor of Low's Lutheran Church; the Rev. W.A. Rich, Methodist minister; and the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Frances A. Graham

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Albright Graham, 79, of 127 Friendly Road, died at 10:53 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Allan Burton Graham and the daughter of Mr. Joseph Albright and Mrs. Bessie Wilkerson Albright, both deceased. She was the co-owner of Alamance Radio and T.V. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and was a member of the Greensboro Oratorical Society. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Women's Circle.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joanne 'Jo' Graham Stollings of Burlington; a son, Mr. Mark Graham of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Davey of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. C. Powell Sykes, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and other times at the home of the daughter, 3864 Union Ridge Road, Burlington.

Mrs. Caroline Blackwell

ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Caroline Williamson Blackwell, 92, of 2834 Springfield Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Marion Preston Blackwell, and the daughter of Mr. Clinton Williamson and Mrs. Annie Herbin Williamson, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John's AME Church, a member of the missionary society, a mother of the church, a stewardess of the church and a class leader.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Robert Lee Blackwell of Asheboro and Mr. Guy Lacy Blackwell of Elon College; two daughters, Mrs. Loney Blackwell McAdams of Burlington and Mrs. Eugenia B. Crisp of Mebane; one sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of Whitsett; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's AME Church by the Rev. George Cheek, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Edgar W. Taylor

GRAHAM - Mr. Edgar Warren Taylor, 78, of 505 Washington St., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home after four years of failing health.

A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ava Faulkner Taylor, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Henry Taylor and Mrs. Luna Hassell Massey Taylor, both deceased. He was a retired automobile body repairman and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Melvin Taylor of Snow Camp, Mr. Jerry Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mr. Billy Taylor of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Price of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Jennifer Moore of Elgin, S.C., and Mrs. Jenny Gail Carson of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two brothers, the Rev. Dallas Taylor of Burlington and Mr. James Henry Taylor of Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Lee Groce of Graham, Mrs. Eula Clayton of Glen Raven and Mrs. Louise Burgess of Mebane; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Dallas Taylor and the Rev. Norman Fargis. Burial will be in McCray Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will be at the home.

Mr. Willie McCann Sr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Willie James McCann Sr., 90, of 327 Thompson St., died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Alma Harris McCann, who died in 1995, and the son of Mr. William McCann and Mrs. Betty Nichols McCann, both deceased. He was retired from Railway Express and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Charlie A. (Helen) Wright of Burlington; five sons, Mr. James W. McCann of Yadkinville, Mr. Thomas F. McCann of Graham, Mr. Willie J. McCann Jr. of Burlington, Mr. Harris G. McCann of Centerville, Utah, and Mr. Gary W. McCann of Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Foy Terry of Danville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Willie J. McCann, 1944 Sandy Cross Road, Burlington.

Mr. Francis L. Sprehe

BURLINGTON - Mr. Francis Louis Sprehe, 90, of 826 Warwick Court, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Clare Bridge Retirement Home in Cary.

A native of Shawnee, Oklahoma Territory, he was the husband of Mrs. Stella Marie McGuire Sprehe, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Louis Sprehe and Mrs. Ella Mary Devlin Sprehe, both deceased. He lived in Oklahoma until moving to North Carolina in 1996. He was educated in Catholic schools in Shawnee and graduated cum laude from the University of Oklahoma in 1927 as a civil engineer. He was a member of Sigma Tau, Tau Beta Pi, Pe-Et and Toga at the University of Oklahoma. He worked as a consulting structural engineer in private practice and was also employed by the Midwest Steel Co. and by the Boardman Co. in Oklahoma City. He retired in 1992. He was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a Knight of St. Gregory, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Sierra Club of Oklahoma City for many years and served as president.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Stella Marie Deal of Chicago; eight sons, Mr. Paul Francis Sprehe of Oklahoma City, Dr. Daniel Joseph Sprehe of Tampa, Fla, Dr. John Timothy Sprehe of Chevy Chase, Md., Mr. David Louis Sprehe of Fox River Grove, Ill., Mr. James Christopher Sprehe of Raleigh, Mr. Stephen Thomas Sprehe of Ponca City, Okla., Mr. Robert Andrew Sprehe of Overland Park, Kan., and Dr. Samuel Edward Sprehe of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Katherine Sprehe Tener; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be conducted Monday in Christ the King Church in Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Lettie T. Haithcock

GRAHAM - Mrs. Lettie Jo Thompson Haithcock, 62, of 520 Poplar St., died at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at her home after several years of failing health.

A native of Princeton, W.Va., she was the wife of Mr. Billy Ross Haithcock, and the son of Mr. Amon Thompson and Mrs. Besma Mosrie Thompson, both deceased. She was a homemaker was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Kathy Jo Hurst of Oxford, Mrs. Dianna Beth Apple and Mrs. Robin Dee Burns, both of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Jane Jackson of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Benny Thompson of Mataoka, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
