Mrs. Leah L. Ward
GRAHAM - Mrs. Leah Lewis Ward, 81, of 2125 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan., 8, 1998, at White Oak Manor after three years of failing health, one month critical.
A native of Carteret County, she was the wife of Mr. George William Ward, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Joe Willis and Mrs. Hattie Yarborough Willis, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Large White of Washington, Pa., and Mrs. Dollie Lewis Willis of Sneads Ferry; a son, Mr. Jerry G. Lewis of Morganton; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCray Primitive Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Larry Foust and the Rev. Jerry A. Lewis.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Annie Deaton
GRAHAM - Mrs. Annie 'Mae' Deaton, 85, of 1832 S. Main St., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of one week.
A native of Randolph County, she was the wife of Mr. Dock B. Deaton, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. John Caudle and Mrs. Asenth VonCannon Caudle, both deceased. She was a former partner / owner of D / S Hosiery. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Graham and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Miss Kitty Darlene Deaton of the home; a son, Mr. Mack B. Deaton of Liberty; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Frank Boyce Deaton and a sister, Mrs. Lena Jenkins.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by Dr. James Bryan, pastor. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park cemetery in High Point.
The family will be at Rich an Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 4 to 6 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Daisy C. Rogers
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Daisy Cooper Rogers, 81, of 410 Brooklyn St., died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. O.T. Rogers and the daughter of the late Ms. Nettie Cooper. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Ralph Rogers of Graham; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. James Bryant, pastor of Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service, and at other times at the home of the son, Mr. Ralph Rogers, 1872 Edgewood Lane, Graham.
Mrs. Ruby L. Rogers
GRAHAM - Mrs. Ruby Long Rogers, 76, of 779 Woody Drive, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George Franklin Rogers, and the daughter of Mr. Edward H. Long and Mrs. Callie Lee Long, both deceased.
Survivor include two sisters, Mrs. Nancy C. Wiley of Burlington and Mrs. Daisy B. Keck of Greensboro; and a brother, Mr. Edward H. Long Jr. of Burlington.
There will be no funeral.
The family will be at the home of a sister, Mrs. Nancy C. Wiley, 702 Gunn St., Burlington.

Mr. George T. Reeves
WHITSETT - Mr. George Thurman Reeves, 81, of 516 N.C. 100, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lola Garrison Reeves, and the son of Mr. Jerry Holland and Mrs. Annie Barbee Reeves, both deceased. He was a former electrical contractor and was later employed by Macfield Texturing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gail Lefew of Charlotte and Mrs. Deborah Frazier of Graham; a son, Mr. Steven D. Reeves of Whitsett; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Edgar Reeves.
A private family graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Lester Haney.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening.
Ms. Helen Lowdermilk
GOLDSBORO - Ms. Helen Denning Lowdermilk, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Coble Health Center in Durham.
A native of Wayne County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Lowedermilk, and the daughter of Mr. Luther Denning and Mrs. Kiver Batton Denning, both deceased. She was a retired teacher with Wayne Community College and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.,
Survivors include a son, Mr. Allen Lowedermilk of Goldsboro; a daughter, Ms. Frances L. Bryant of Haw River; and a grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a..m. Saturday at Willowdale cemetery by the Rev. Robert Bame.
The family will be at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at 105 N. Audubon Ave.

Rev. Edward Chamblee
RALEIGH - The Rev. Edward C. Chamblee, 89, died Wednesday, Jan., 7, 1998.
Born June 15, 1908, in Zebulon, he was the husband of Mrs. Prandy J. Chamblee, who survives, and the late Mrs. Roxie Alford Chamblee. He was the son of Mr. Kenneth Chamblee and Mrs. Carrie Wiggs Chamblee Lewis, both deceased. He was a graduate of Campbell College, Wake Forest University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He taught high school, and was pastor at many churches, including Grove Park Baptist Church in Burlington. He served as Director of Missions, Wilmington Association, from 1945 to 1948. He retired in 1973. He served on various committees and was chairman of the Retired Baptist Ministries Fellowship of the Greater Raleigh Area and was co-chairman at the time of his death.
Survivors other than his wife include a son, Dr. James M. Chamblee of Smithfield; a stepson, Mr. Samuel J. Jackson of Fuquay-Varina; a stepdaughter, Ms. Cynthia J. Poole of Raleigh; a foster stepdaughter, Ms. Linda W. Farley; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five great-grandchildrne; and a foster step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Cecil Chamblee and Mr. Wisner Chamblee; three sisters, Ms. Daphne C. Haithcock, Ms. Thelma C. Myers and Ms. Camilla C. Barber.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh by Dr. Mark White, the Rev. Jesse Waugh, and the Rev. Larry King. Burial will be in Zebulon City Cemetery.
The family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Clarence E. Smith
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Clarence Ebenezer Smith, 92, of 2128 Grooms Road, formerly of Pagetown Road, Cherry Grove, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1998, at his home.
A native of Davidson County, he was retired from Copland Fabrics and was a retired farmer. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clay (Peggy Smith) Manring of the home and Mrs. Mac (Marenda Smith) Wilson of Cherry Grove; a brother, Mr. Gale Smith of Lexington; a sister, Ms. Mamie Matkins of Yanceyville; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Ms. Peggy Ann Coble Boone
BURLINGTON - Ms. Peggy Ann Coble Boone, 67, of 323 Baldwin Road, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 10 years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Al a mance County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Dulcie Terrell Coble, who survives, and the late Mr. Abe Coble. She was a retired respiratory therapist with Alamance Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River.
Survivors other than her mother of Pleasant Grove include four daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Isley, Mrs. Kathy Chandler, Mrs. Angela Nichols and Ms. Lisa Matherly, all of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Pamela Collins of Graham and Mrs. Judy Ward of Sophia; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Haw River by the Rev. Richard Poindexter and the Rev. Kenneth Wilson. Burial will be in Haw River Cemetery.

Mrs. Dorothy Campbell
CHAPEL HILL - Mrs. Dorothy C. Campbell, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at her home.
A native of Wilkes County, she was the wife of Mr. Elmer Campbell, who survives, and the daughter of Ms. Ava Riddle, who survives. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors other than her husband and mother of Mebane include three daughters, Ms. Dot Bullock of Snow Camp, Ms. Debra Mason of Mebane and Ms. Sue Cabezas of Hollywood, Fla.; two sons, Mr. Mark Campbell of Mebane and Mr. Michael Campbell of Chapel Hill; five sisters, Ms. Mabeline Baker of Whitsett, Ms. Janet Hicks of Efland, Ms. Linda Ryan of Swepsonville, Ms. Peggy Cook of Salisbury and Ms. June Straughan of Graham; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Kenneth Hawkins Sr.
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Kenneth Earl Hawkins Sr., 69, of 1918 Pickrell Road, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 6, 1998, at his home.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Deaton Hawkins, who survives. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a self- employed building contractor. He served as the Scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Troop No.
396 in Caswell County and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Elton (Joann Hawkins) Moody of Brunswick, Ga., and Ms. Jennifer Leigh Hawkins of the home; two sons, Mr. Kenneth V. Hawkins Jr. of Reidsville and Mr. John V. Hawkins of Rockaway, N.J.; a brother, Mr. Douglas M. Hawkins of Reidsville; two sisters, Mrs. E.W. (Jacquelyn Hawkins) Halbrook and Mrs. George (Ella Mae Hawkins) Glaspie, both of Reidsville; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James D. Hawkins, and a grandchild.
