Mrs. Mary S. Fitch
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Gee Squires Fitch, 76, of 413 Wildwood Lane, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at her home after one year of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Banks W. Fitch, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. George Fallie Squires and Mrs. Pearl Hughes Squires, both deceased. She was a homemaker and attended Grove Park Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Charlotte Fitch) Yutchishen of Crozet, Va., Mrs. Glen (Janice Fitch) Curtis of Richmond, Va., and Ms. Cathy Fitch of Greenville, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Fowlkes of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Hughes Squires of Burlington; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Roy P. Taylor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Brezela Poteat
CEDAR GROVE - Mrs. Brezela Poteat, 91, died Tuesday, Jan, 6, 1998, at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Charlotte.
She was the wife of the late Mr. John Poteat, and the daughter of Mr. Clyde Gunnings and Mrs. Menerva Biggers Gunnings, both deceased. She was a member of Lattisville Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Mr. Garfield Gunnings of Gastonia; two sons, Mr. James Killough of Cedar Grove and Mr. Alvin Killough of Durham; a stepson, Mr. Nathaniel Wagstaff of Baltimore; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Lattisville Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Lindsey Baskett, pastor. Burial will be in White Oak Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home from 6 to 7 this evening.
Mrs. Valeria Matherly
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Valeria 'Nickie' Burke Matherly, 73, of 324 Thompson St., died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, one month critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Clarence W. Matherly, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Claude W. 'Bunk' Burke and Mrs. Flora Nicks Burke, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington Industries after 41 years of service. She was a member of the Burlington Senior Citizens Club.
She was a member of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three sisters, Mrs. Alice Burke Sutton, Mrs. Dora Burke Butler and Mrs. Betsy Burke Watkins, all of Burlington; five brothers, Mr. Wallace L. Burke of Roxboro, Mr. Norman 'Spider' Burke, Mr. Robert C. Burke and Mr. Raymond L. Burke, all of Burlington, and Mr. H. Hilton Burke of Columbia, S.C.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ethel Burke Langley, and two brothers, Mr. Hugh 'Buck' Burke and Mr. Carl W. 'Bunk' Burke.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Beverly Hills United Church of Christ by Dr. Christopher Burr, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

David W. Henry
BURLINGTON - David William Henry, infant son of Ms. Kristina Ann Henry and Mr. Bradley Stephen Enoch, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Survivors other than his parents of Burlington include his maternal grandparents, Mr. William Henry and Mrs. Kathleen Meeker Henry of Wyoming, Ill.; his paternal grandfather, Mr. Jerry Wayne Enoch of New Bern; his maternal great-grandparents, Mr. Ernest Henry, Mrs. Dorothy McNeeley Henry and Mrs. Joan Meeker, all of Wyoming, Ill., and Mr. Marvin Meeker of Morton, Ill.; and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Selma Kimbro Enoch of Burlington.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. C. Max Allman, pastor of People's Memorial Christian Church.

Mr. Benjamin Blakely Jr.
EFLAND - Mr. S. Benjamin Blakely Jr., 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after several months of failing health.
Born Dec. 28, 1913, in Andrews, S.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Frances Taylor Blakely, who survives, and the son of Mr. Samuel Benjamin Blakely Sr. and Mrs. Henrietta Isokriet Blakely, both deceased. He was a graduate of Andrews High School in Andrews and Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a disabled veteran of World War II, serving in the 78th Division.
He worked as a bookkeeper in Burlington for many years and retired after 20 years of service at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, where he was secretary for the Chapel Bible Sunday School Class.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Taylor Blakely of Raleigh; a daughter, Ms. Elaine Blakely Allison of Elon College; four sisters, Ms. Madge Willis of Florence, S.C., Ms. Lorriane Brandon of Pine Bluff, Ark., Ms. Meta Blakely of Georgetown, S.C., and Ms. Jeanette Hatzenbuhler of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Emily Blakely Simmons and a brother, Mr. Frank Blakely.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Willis and the Rev. Tom Worley. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening.
Ms. Alice Elizabeth Leonard
BENNETT - Ms. Alice Elizabeth Leonard, 81, of 7820 N.C. 22/42, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A native of Chatham County, she was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Jesse Leonard of Bennett, Mr. Jack Leonard of Burlington and Mr. James Leonard of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Ms. Dorothy Oates of Greensboro; four sisters, Ms. Margaret Brown of Siler City, Ms. Decie Murphy of Thomasville, Ms. Evie Light and Ms. Minnie Hicks, both of Ramseur; 26 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Kenneth Huggins and the Rev. Tom Hill. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Jesse Leonard, 6824 Country Loop Road, Bennett.

CHAPEL HILL - Ms. Dorothy Clandine Campbell, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Lethia Frederick
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Lethia Herring Washington Frederick, 84, of Shomaria Family Care Home, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Oct. 13, 1913, in Burgaw, she was the daughter of Mr. Athur Herring and Mrs. Annie Walker Herring, both deceased. She was a retired postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gloria W. Wallace of Yanceyville; a foster daughter, Mrs. Kate Shirley McGhee of Yanceyville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Watha by the Rev. Melvin Paylor. Burial will be in the Herring Family cemetery in Watha.
A service of remembrance will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Paylor.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gloria W. Wallace, 1107 County Home Road, Yanceyville.

Mrs. Thelma Ellington
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Thelma Crews Ellington, 90, of 2806-A E. Maple Ave., died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Fredrick Pinkerman Ellington, and the daughter of Mr. George Edward Crews and Mrs. Mary Cardwell Crews, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Kayser-Roth Hosiery Co. and was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Allred of the home and Mrs. George (Carlene) Amick of Edenton; two sons, Mr. F. Marion Ellington of Burlington and Mr. Maynard Ellington of Graham; a brother, Mr. Joseph Moir Crews of Eden; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Grace Nichols and Ms. Minnie Gallimore.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Roy P. Taylor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Harold Graham
RALEIGH - Mr. Harold Otis Graham, 75, of IHS of Raleigh at Crabtree, died at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of two weeks.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Arthur Lee Graham and Mrs. Ethel Jenkins Graham, both deceased.
Survivors include a sister, Ms. Virginia Ground of Tampa, Fla.; and two brothers, Mr. James H. Graham of Burlington and Mr. Robert J. Graham of Graham.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Maxie G. Stewart.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Haw River by the Rev. Samuel Frazier, vicar. Burial will be in St. Andrews Green.
