BURLINGTON - Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Warren McKinney, 84, of 3426 N.C. 62 North, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Edgar Wilson McKinney of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Munczenski of Gaithersburg, Va.; a son, Mr. Eddie Warren McKinney of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Grace McCullom of Yanceyville; a brother, Mr. William Lewis 'Billy' Warren of Reidsville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. James Brown Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Robert 'J.R.' Brown Sr., 52, of 734 Hanner Road died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Janice Rimmer Brown and the son of Mr. Benjamin Harrison Brown and Mrs. Geneva Anderson 'Eva' Brown, both deceased. He was formerly employed by Cone Mills Granite Finishing for 33 years. He was a member of the North Carolina Fox Hunters Association and was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Lisa Brown of the home and Ms. Christy Brown of Burlington; a son, Mr. James Robert 'Jim Bob' Brown Jr. of the home; a sister, Mrs. Kay Hunkins of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. John Wesley Brown of Burlington; six step sisters, Ms. Mildred Carter, Ms. Vina Chandler, Ms. Edith Coble and Ms. Estella Ham, all of Greensboro, Ms. Cathleen Brown of Bennett and Ms. Elizabeth McBane of Burlington, and two step brothers, Mr. J.W. Foust of Burlington and Mr. Welford 'Bill' Brown of Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Maggie Payne, and seven brothers, Mr. Clinton Brown, Mr. Linton Brown, Mr. W.R. Brown, Mr. Robert Harrison Brown, Mr. William Foust, Mr. Banks Foust and Mr. Frank Brown.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Staley Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor. Burial will be in McCray Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and other times at the home.
Mrs. Gladys C. Owen
GRAHAM - Mrs. Gladys Church Owen, 88, of 1216 South Main St., died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after four years of failing health, four days critical.
A native of Wilkes County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Clayton Perry Owen and the daughter of Mr. Issac Newton Church and Mrs. Dorcas Grant Church, both deceased. She was a retired folder for Sharpes Hosiery Mill and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joann O. Phillips of Clemmons; four sons, Mr. Colburn P. Owen of Galax, Va., Mr. Reggie Owen of Hickory, Mr. Henry N. Owen of Roxboro and Mr. Danny L. Owen of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Moore of Elon College and Mrs. Hazel Carver of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Michael Phillips. A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Burchwood cemetery in Roxboro.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening and other times at the home.
Mrs. Naomi M. Russell
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Naomi Moore Russell, 88, of 323 Baldwin Road, formerly of Graham, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at White Oak Manor after four years of failing health, several weeks critical.
A native of Florida, she was the wife of the late Mr. Clester Cyral Russell and the daughter of Mr. Tillman Moore and Mrs. Irene Anderson Moore, both deceased. She was retired from Burlington Industries, Pioneer Plant and was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Jack Barton Russell of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Corene Sorrell of Burlington; a brother, Mr. John C. Moore of Burlington; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 8 Tuesday night and at other times of the home of the son, Mr. Jack Barton Russell, 311 Clapp St., Graham.
Mr. Jesse Montgomery
BURLINGTON - Mr. Jesse William Montgomery, 83, of 863 Deep Creek Church Road died at 6:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three weeks of failing health, one day critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Alene Christopher Montgomery, and the son of Mr. Thomas Murphy and Mrs. Mammi Caulder Montgomery, both deceased. He was a retired supply clerk for Copeland Mills and Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Doris Cobb and Ms. Linda Russell, both of Burlington; a son, Mr. John Barrett Montgomery of Burlington; a half sister, Miss Cornelia Montgomery of Burlington; six grandchildren; one step grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-step grandchild.

Mrs. Ethel W. Wilson
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ethel Mae Whitten Riley Wilson, 75, of 3436 Dr. Pickett Road died at 7:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Weldon Riley and the daughter of Mr. Newman Whitten and Mrs. Lucy Sanders Whitten, both deceased. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Bobby Riley of Burlington and Mr. Kenneth Riley of South Carolina; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Lillie Mae Riley; and two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Jones and Mrs. Inez Williams.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. George 'Jack' Phillips.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 Sunday evening and other times at the home of Mrs. Myrna Oldham, 308-A Tanglewood Apts., Mebane.

LIBERTY - Mrs. Kathleen Smith Shoffner, 76, of 504 Greenbriar St. died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.

Mrs. Joanna R. Sims
ERWIN - Mrs. Joanna Rosser Sims, 29, of 302 13th St. died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, in Harnett County.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Andrew H. Sims, who survives, and the daughter of the Rev. James L. Rosser and Mrs. Jewelle Bass Rosser, who survive. She was a registered nurse and Assistant Director of Out-Patient services at Wake Medical Center. She was a member of Haw River Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and parents of Graham include a daughter, Miss Lindsay Sims of the home; a son, Mr. Colton Sims of the home; a sister, Mrs. Beth Rosser Smith of Graham; a brother, Mr. James L. Rosser Jr. of Greensboro; and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Rosser of Sanford.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday Haw River Christian Church by Dr. Fred Treadwell, the Rev. Phil Hardy, the Rev. Richard Myers and Mr. Kevin Hunter. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home of the parents, 530 Rockwood Drive, Graham.
Mr. Bud S. Doss
BURLINGTON - Mr. Bud Samuel Doss, 81, of 4122 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at his home after one year of failing health, three months critical.
A native of Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Annie Phillips Doss, who survives, and the late Mrs. Mable Rippy Doss. He was the son of Mr. Nollie Doss and Mrs. Edith Holley Doss, both deceased. He was a retired truck driver with Kayser-Roth. He was a member of First Wesleyn Church of Burlington and the Burlington Moose Lodge, where he had a Pilgrim Degree.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Patricia) Phillips of Burlington; a son, Mr. Samuel Lee Doss of Belews Creek; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Joyce McGowan of Burlington, Mrs. Sandra Cook of Graham and Mrs. Sue Reyes of Florida; two stepsons, Mr. Earl Phillips and Mr. Larry Phillips, both of Burlington; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Blackwell and Mrs. Catherine Naylor, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. James Doss of Altavista, Va.; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven great-step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Sallie Hawkins, Ms. Louella Holley and Ms. Cassie Brumfield; six brothers, Mr. Albert A. Doss, Mr. Drewey Doss, Mr. Willie Doss, Mr. Luther Doss, Mr. Charlie Doss and Mr. Oscar Doss.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Wesleyan Church of Burlington by the Rev. Ron Jones, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Patsy A. Rhodes
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Patsy Ann Allen Rhodes, 61, of 361 Apt. F, Fairfax St., died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Franklin County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Edward Rhodes, and the daughter of Mr. James E. Allen and Mrs. Sarah Ann Denton Allen. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Life Center in Gibsonville.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Diane Golden of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Wesley Allen of New Hope and Mr. Henry Allen of Surprise, Ariz.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christian Life Center by the Rev. Bruce Ritter, pastor. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 1:30 to 3 Sunday afternoon, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 1404 Anthony Road, Burlington.

Mr. Tommie Brown
TRENTON - Mr. Tommie Brown, 85, of 448 King St. Ext., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Odessa Sutton and Ms. Sadie Smith, both of Greensboro; seven sons, Col. Thomas Earl Brown of Fayetteville, Mr. Robert Brown of Burlington, Mr. Raymond Brown of Roanoke Rapids, Va., Mr. Cecil Brown of Durham, Mr. William Brown of Chesapeake, Va., Mr. Leslie Brown of Raleigh and Mr. Clement Brown of New Bern; a sister, Ms. Lucille Thompson of Bridgewater, Mass.; a brother, Mr. Johnnie Brown of Trenton; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at King Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Trenton by the Rev. Esley Robinson. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery.

Mr. Vance Gerringer
GREENSBORO - Mr. Vance R. 'Boss Man' Gerringer, 88, of 2903 E. Bessemer Ave., died Friday morning, Dec. 5, 1997, at Wesley Long Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1909 in Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lucille Schoolfield Gerringer, who died in 1987, and the son of Mr. John Calvin Gerringer and Mrs. Laura Thomas Gerringer, both deceased. He was a lifelong resident of Guilford County. He retired in 1969 from Associated Transport after more than 30 years of service. He was a pioneer member of the local Teamsters No. 391. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under General Omar Bradley. He was a member of Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Mary Lou) Puckett and Ms. Diane Bush, both of Greensboro; two brothers, Mr. Hugh Gerringer of Guilford College and Mr. John David Gerringer of Burlington; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Randy Pearman and the Rev. Willie Graves. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Puckett, 3212 Sandburg Drive, Greensboro.
Ms. Ella G. Isley
JULIAN - Ms. Ella Greeson Isley, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.
She had been a patient of Clapp's Nursing Center for several years. She was a lifelong member of Mount Hope United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Clapp of Julian and Mrs. Dan (Betty) Hobbs of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Hope United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church following the service and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Clapp, 2819 Mount Hope Church Road, Julian. The body will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty until 9 p.m. today.
