Miss Martha E. Askew

BURLINGTON - Miss Martha E. Askew, 82, of 1124 Gattis St., died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at her home.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. John Franklin Askew and Mrs. Rosann Clark Askew, both deceased. She was a retired weaver with Cannon Mills. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Beulah Halacheff; and two brothers, Mr. Marvin Askew and Mr. Charles Askew.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Jay Kennett, Hospice chaplain.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 10 to 11 this morning.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mrs. Myra Morris

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Myra Morris of Shadowood Apartments died at 1:42 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Mrs. Vickey Hundley

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Vickey Campbell Hundley, 47, of 611 Piedmont Way, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after two years of failing heath, one week critical.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Kenneth Wayne Hundley, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Howard Campbell and Mrs. Claudia McPherson Campbell, both deceased. She was employed by Holt Manufacturing and was a U.S. Army veteran and National Guard veteran of the Vietnam War. She was a Seventh-day Adventist.

Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sons, Mr. Eugene Edward Lynn of the home, Mr. Jerry Cochran of Manteo; a stepson, Mr. Robert Wayne Hundley of Graham; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Alicia Christine Mattherly of Haw River; two sister, Mrs. Jackie Clark of Graham and Mrs. Kay Johnson of Salisbury; two brothers, Mr. Richard Campbell and Mr. Bobby Campbell, both of Graham; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Haw River by Elder James Rochester, pastor. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening.

Mrs. Vernie M. Boone

ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Vernie McIntyre Boone of 2494 Ossipee Front St. died at 11:38 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Naomi Thomas

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Naomi Thomas of 1542 Overbrook Road died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Mrs. Elsie W. Wagoner

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elsie Mae Wells Wagoner, 79, of 312 Williamson St., died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after several years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Rufus King Wells and Mrs. Nannie Ray Wells, both deceased. She was a member of Graham Nazarene Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Dolly Leonard of Burlington and Mrs. J.D. (Frances) Long of Haw River; two sons, Mr. Robert D. Wagoner and Mr. Norman Ray Wagoner, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Dace Wells of Graham; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Dorothy Mae Wagoner; a son, Mr. James Donald Wagoner; and a brother, Mr. Walter Leon Wells.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bob Sargent, former pastor of Graham Nazarene Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Norman Wagoner, 311 Williamson St. Burlington.

Mr. Joel Barringer Sr.

MADISON - Mr. Joel Osborne Barringer Sr., 59, of 311 Sisk Mill Road, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at his home.

A native of Rowan County, he was the son of Mr. Ira Barringer and Mrs. Florence Barringer, both deceased. He was a member of the Masons in Burlington and was a Shriner. He was the owner and operator of M&M Meat Processors.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Joel Osborne Barringer II of Stoneville; two daughters, Ms. Rebekah B. Crumpton and Ms. Penny E. Miller, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Ward Barringer of Salisbury; a sister, Ms. Margie B. Grubb of Newport News, Va., and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Harold Barringer.

The family will be at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening.

No memorial service is planned at this time.

Miss Carolyn Herbin

GIBSONVILLE - Miss Carolyn Marie Herbin, 35, of 704 Slade Street, Apt. B, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a sudden illness.

A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of Mr. John Frank Herbin and Mrs. Mary Foust Herbin, who survive. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her father of Browns Summit and mother of the home include two daughters, Ms. Lavonia Herbin and Ms. Jasmine Herbin, both of the home; three sons, Mr. David Herbin, Mr. Marcus Herbin and Mr. Jeffrey Herbin, all of the home; eight sisters, Miss Margaret Herbin and Mrs. Brenda Sue Davis, both of Greensboro, Mrs. Colleen Walker and Mrs. Janice Dillard, both of Browns Summit, Miss Darlene Herbin, Mrs. Michele Linda Lewis and Miss Rosa Rene Herbin, all of Gibsonville, and Miss Lisa Herbin of Burlington; six brothers, Mr. Paul Herbin of Montezuma, Ga., Mr. Allen Lane Herbin of Burlington, Mr. Phillip Herbin, Mr. Bernard Herbin, Mr. Anthony Herbin and Mr. Frederick L. Herbin, all of Gibsonville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Faith Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Timothy Warren, pastor.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Essie Gilliam

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Essie Myrick Gilliam, 90, of 2415 Radiance Drive, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at the Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight years of failing health, two weeks critical.

A native of Warrenton County, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. George Gilliam Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Nathaniel Myrick and Mrs. L.L. Davis Myrick, both deceased. She was a member of Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Gilliam Ivey of Albany, N.Y., Mrs. Shirley Gilliam Blackwell and Mrs. Mary Gilliam Duncan, both of Burlington; four sons, Mr. George Gilliam Jr., Mr. Scemonia Gilliam and Mr. Billy Gilliam, all of Burlington, and Mr. Charles Gilliam of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Maeola Ivey of Albany, N.Y. and Mrs. Lucy J. Smith of Monroe; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Billy Gilliam, 508 Lakeview Drive, Burlington.

Rich and Thompson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Florance Kirkpatrick

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Florance Walker Kirkpatrick of 530 County Club Drive, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a critical illness of two days.

A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Ralph Freeman R.F. Kirkpatrick Jr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Samuel Eli Walker and Mrs. Viola Florance Walker, both deceased. She was the owner of Kirk's Motor Court and was a charter member of the Women's Division of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce, where she was a past president. She was a member of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Lisa F. Kirkpatrick-Yow of Burlington; a brother, Mr. C. Calvin Walker of Burlington; and a grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Billie L. Walker.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor, and Elder Wallis Smith, pastor of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 5 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of the daughter, 1219 Ridgecrest Ave., Burlington.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Sadie L. Boling

MEBANE - Mrs. Sadie Lanier Robinson Boling, 76, of 2422 N.C. 119 South, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of three months.

Born June 30, 1921, in Onslow County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Earl Nichols Robinson and Mr. Hubert Boling. She was the daughter of Mr. Mathew Lanier and Mrs. Kitty Thompson Lanier, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lula Lanier of Kinston and Mrs. Doris Connor of Roanoke, Va.; and one stepson, Mr. Robert Boling of Kinston.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. W.D. Allison. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. John Burnette Sr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. John Henry Burnette Sr., 58, of 110 Carriage Loop Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of several months.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Tom Burnette and Mrs. Lessie B. Burnette, both deceased. He was a member of Bethsada Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara A. Norman of Greensboro and Mrs. Libby D. Satterfield of Efland; three sons, Mr. Charles Burnette of the home, Mr. John H. Burnette Jr. and Mr. Jeffrey P. Burnette, both of Mebane; two sisters, Mrs. Iona Whitmore of Haw River and Mrs. Maxine Parker of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Thomas Burnette of Graham and Mr. Joseph Burnette of Burlington; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Jesse Burnette and Mr. Albert P. Burnette.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Bethsada Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Jones, pastor, and the Rev. Albert Morrow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Hargett & Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening and at the church one hour before the service. At other times they will be at the home.

Mr. Henry D. Shaw

BURLINGTON - Mr. Henry David Shaw, 85, of 1411 N. Park Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
