Mrs. Joy P. Cole
SAXAPAHAW - Mrs. Joy Payne Cole, 61, of 2627 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at her home after three years of failing health, two months critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Bobby Cole and the daughter of Mr. James V. 'Red' Payne, who survives, and the late Mrs. Mildred Clark Payne. She was retired from Culp Weaving Company of Graham and a member of Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her father of Snow Camp include a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Pam) Walters of Saxapahaw; three sisters, Mrs. Jim (Dawne) Conklin of Burlington, Mrs. Preston (Pat) Rogers and Mrs. Calvin (Vickie) Easter, both of Graham; a brother, Mr. Ralph C. Payne of Graham; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Kenneth Lee Cole and a brother, Mr. June V. Payne.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church by Dr. James Bryan, pastor, and the Rev. Wayne Miller, pastor of Mebane Church of God. Burial will be in Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Roy J. Lockman
BURLINGTON - Mr. Roy James Lockman, 75, of 220 Hall Ave., died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Alamance Health Care Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Danville, Va., he was the son of Mr. Hartwell W. Lockman and Mrs. Lillie Mae Dove Lockman, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired hosiery-mill employee.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Shirley Mae Russell of Graham.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Donald C. Swinney, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 12:30 to 1:30 Friday afternoon and at other times at the home of Mrs. Florence Light, 315 Williamson Ave., Burlington.
Mrs. Nora Richmond
MEBANE - Mrs. Nora Thompson Richmond of 190 Gunn Poole Road died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Hayes Thomas Richmond, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Newton Thompson and Mrs. Josie Cohn Thompson, both deceased. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Leasburg.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Darlene Long of Mebane, Miss Sarah Richmond and Miss Sandy Richmond, both of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mae Goore of Burlington and Mrs. Bernice Richmond of Greensboro; five brothers, Mr. V.D. Thompson of Burlington, Mr. Leroy Thompson of Greensboro, Mr. William Thompson of San Diego, Mr. Charlie Thompson of South Carolina and Mr. Larry Evans of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. J.O. Wilson, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Mr. Matront L. Rone
BURLINGTON - Mr. Matront Lee Rone, 16, of 704 Floyd St., died at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Melvin Rone and Mrs. Faye Enoch Rone, who both survive. He was a Cummings High School student.
Survivors other than his parents of the home include two sisters, Miss Daphne L. Rone and Miss Portia Rone, both of the home; six brothers, Mr. Melvin Donnell Rone, Mr. Marcus A. Rone and Mr. Michael Rone, all of Haw River, Mr. Darryl Rone, Mr. Reginald Fitzgerald Rone and Mr. Dion Rone, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. Sidney H. Rone and Mrs. Mary J. Rone of Elon College; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Azill Garrison of Altamahaw; maternal grandfather, Mr. Walter Graves of Burlington; paternal stepgrandfather, Mr. Fred Garrison of Altamahaw; and maternal stepgrandmother, Mrs. Emma Graves of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jean Carol Moore, pastor of True Holiness Church of Faith. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Gertrude Coleman
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Gertrude Kennedy Coleman, 94, formerly of Wesleyan Homes died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
Born Jan. 7, 1903, in High Point, she was the daughter of Mr. Julius Kennedy and Mrs. Claudia Kennedy, both deceased. She was retired from Melrose Hosiery and was a member of Hayworth Memorial Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Vallie Viola Workman Parrish of Graham; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel by Dr. Richard D. Auten. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Guilford Memorial Park Tower Mausoleum by the Rev. David M. Emery.
The family will be at Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel after the service until 8:30 p.m.
Mrs. Virgie C. Wood
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Virgie Carroll Wood, 81, of 2941 U.S. 158 West died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at the Brian Center of Yanceyville after several months of failing health.
A native of Pittsylvania County, she was the wife of Mr. Jessie Wilson Wood, who died in 1996, and the daughter of Mr. Reuben H. Carroll and Mrs. Martha Ann Patterson Carroll, both deceased. She attended Caswell County Schools. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Prospect United Methodist Women, a Sunday school teacher and was a pianist/organist for six years. She was former president of Prospect-Yanceyville Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Carolyn Barker of Milton; two sons, Mr. Wayne Wood of Providence and Mr. Michael Wood of Yanceyville; three sisters, Ms. Omie Poteat and Ms. Bernice Goodson, both of Danville, Va., and Ms. Minnie Powell of Providence; two brothers, Mr. Edgar Carroll Sr. of Yanceyville and Mr. Mac Carroll of Providence; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Theo C. Lovell, Ms. Nettie C. Poteat, Ms. Bertha C. Travis and Ms. Luetta C. Aldridge; and three brothers, Mr. Swanson Carroll, Mr. Raymond Carroll and Mr. William H. Carroll.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Charlie R. Keck, 83, of 5758 N.C. 62 South died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1997, at White Oak Manor after 10 years of failing health, four months critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Charlie Walter Keck and Mrs. Emma Cooper Keck, both deceased. He was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery and was a member of Lows Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Watkins of Burlington; a son, Mr. Greg Keck of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Kennedy and Mrs. Margaret Rich, both of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conduced at 2 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Max Rich and the Rev. Robbie Lowe. Burial will be in Low's Lutheran Church cemetery.

Mr. J. Floyd Coble
BURLINGTON - Mr. J. Floyd Coble, 82, of Twin Lakes Center, 100 Wade Coble Drive, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at his home after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. James Henry Franklin Coble and Mrs. Donna Robert Greeson Coble, both deceased. He was a graduate of Elon College. He was retired from AT&T as a tool engineer and was a farmer. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Esther Dunn and Mrs. Vivian Darlington, both of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Julia Frances Coble; and a brother, Dr. Albert Coble.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Joyce E. Taipale, pastor, and Sister Cathy Fanslau, chaplain of Twin Lakes Center. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5:30 to 7 Tuesday evening.

GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Mary Lamm George, 71, of 400 Steele St., Apt. 42, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro after five years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Johnston County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charlie George and the daughter of Mr. Preston Lamm and Mrs. Nora Worrells Lamm, both deceased. She was a homemaker and attended West Burlington Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Whitesell of Gibsonville, Mrs. Linda Sue Faircloth of Mebane and Mrs. Louise Butler of Snow Camp; four sons, Mr. Billy Joe George of Haw River, Mr. Charles George of Austell, Ga., Mr. Robert George of Mebane and Mr. Clint George of Elon College; one brother, Mr. William Lamm of Gibsonville; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Burlington Church of God by the Rev. Olin Tatum, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Whitesell, 410 Wood St., Gibsonville.
