GRAHAM - Mrs. Alma Moss Brown of 1215 Cherry Tree Lane, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Iona M. Graves
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Iona Mansfield Graves, 78, of 2248 Melrose Drive, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after many years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Floyd Graves and the daughter of Mr. William James Mansfield and Mrs. Tiny Gerringer Mansfield, both deceased. She was a homemaker and attended West Burlington Church of God.
Survivors include two brothers, Mr. Cletus Mansfield of Elon College and Mr. Paul Mansfield of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Lola Poole, Ms. Adell Ward and Ms. Balkie Mansfield; and five brothers, Mr. Jivis Mansfield, Mr. Toy Glenn Mansfield, Mr. Ornial Mansfield, Mr. Kalsie Mansfield and Mr. Cleo Mansfield.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today Wednesday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Olin Tatum, pastor of West Burlington Church of God.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from noon to 1:30 p.m. today, and at other times at the home of Mr. William Mansfield, 2233 Durham St. Ext., Burlington.
Mrs. Kay E. Neal
GRAHAM - Mrs. Kay Evans Neal, 60, of 413 Moser St., died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at her home.

Mr. M. Crawford Poplin
GRAHAM - Mr. M. Crawford "M.C." Poplin, 80, of 500 W. Gilbreath St., died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at his home after five years of failing health.
A native of Stanley County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Sherrill Poplin, who survives, and the son of Mr. Mastin Crawford Poplin Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy Morgan Poplin, both deceased. He was retired from Kellwood Knitting and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Dailey (Vickie) Harris of Burlington; a son, Mr. Ricky L. Poplin of Graham; five sisters, Mrs. George (Pallie) Green and Mrs. Clydia Mae Jones, both of Burlington, Mrs. Eddie (Etta Belle) Beeker of Hickory, Mrs. John (Nell) Martin of Raleigh and Mrs. Nookie (Raymell) Coleman of Greenville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Polston and Mrs. Lou Barrett; and a brother, Mr. Cletus Poplin.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by Dr. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Nell B. Simpson dies at age 101
GRAHAM - Mrs. Nell Brooks Simpson, 101, formerly of 527 E. Main St., died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James W. Simpson and the daughter of Mr. William T. Brooks and Mrs. Fannie Thompson Brooks, both deceased. She was a retired schoolteacher and licensed practical nurse. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara S. Haislip of Sanford and Mrs. Beverly S. Caldwell of Orange City, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Billie) Payne of Greensboro and Mrs. John (Margaret) Bowden of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Wade Brooks of Graham; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Richard Poindexter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Haw River. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mr. Johnnie L. White
BURLINGTRON - Mr. Johnnie L. White, 55, of 811 Rosenwald St., died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Loris, S.C., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben White, both deceased.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at High Hill Baptist Church in Mullins, S.C. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Gordon W. Majors
BURLINGTON - Mr. Gordon Warren 'Bubba' Majors, 72, of 2358 Timber Trail died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A Franklin County, Tenn., native, he was the wife of the late Mrs. Betty Jane Roach Majors and the son of Mr. Frank Henry Majors and Mrs. Josie Gault Majors, both deceased. He was retired from Gilmore Plant & Bulb Co. in Julian.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Connie Lucas of Burlington; five sons, Mr. Mark Majors of Graham, Mr. Mike Majors of Gibsonville, Mr. Joe Majors of Troy, Mr. Chris Majors of Mebane and Mr. Randy Majors of Glen Fork, W.Va.; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. David Jackson, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church and Dr. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mr. George W. Steelman
BURLINGTON - Mr. George W. Steelman, 74, of 2023 S. Mebane St., died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after five years of failing health.
A native of Yadkin County, he was the husband of Mrs. Bertha F. Steelman, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Steelman and Mrs. Sally Steelman, both deceased. He retired from Burlington Industries Pioneer Plant after 32 years of service and was a member of South Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Yadkinville.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Cranville and Mrs. Bernice Dixon, both of Yadkinville, and Mrs. Evelyn Wood of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Mr. Charlie Steelman of Yadkinville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Gene Steelman.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Roy Taylor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jean T. Thompson
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jean Tate Thompson, 83, of 343 Baldwin Road, died at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital due to head injuries from a fall on the ice Jan. 5.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Ivan Hammer Thompson, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Allen Denny Tate and Mrs. Grace Snyder Tate, both deceased. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College and was a school teacher in Alamance County, having taught at Pleasant Grove, North Graham and Graham Middle School. She retired in 1980. She was a lifelong member of Graham Presbyterian Church. She was presented an honorary life membership by the Women of the Church in the Synod of North Carolina for the service to her church.
Survivors other than her husband include a daughter, Mrs. James (Elaine) Drye of Mooresville; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Tate Bodein and Mrs. Denny Tate Utley, both of Burlington; a brother, Dr. Allen Denny Tate Jr. of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Jean Thompson Stroud.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Graham Presbyterian Church by Dr. William Weckerly, the Rev. Louis East and Dr. Edwin Lewis.
The family will be at Graham Presbyterian Church parlor following the service, and at other times at the home of the brother, 1907 Sunnybrook Drive, Burlington.

GRAHAM - Mr. Johnnie Wade Isley, 88, of 112 W. Gilbreath St., died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Frances Euliss Isley, who survives, and the son of Mr. Lemuel M. Isley and Mrs. Callie Coble Isley, both deceased. He was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery and was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of Graham include two daughters, Mrs. Patsy Allen and Mrs. Deborah Edwards, both of Graham; two sons, Mr. Johnny Frank Isley of Charlotte and Mr. Joel Scott Isley of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Mr. Garr C. Isley of Burlington; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor, and Mr. Joel Isley. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. James G. Crumpton
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Gary Crumpton, 57, of 920 Morningside Drive, died at 11:11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after four years of failing health, three days critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Priscilla Baize Crumpton, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Aretta Shatterly Crumpton, who survives, and the late Mr. James Sidney Crumpton. He was the owner and operator of Alamance Appliance Service and was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Altamahaw include a daughter, Ms. Sharon McDonald of Burlington; a son, Mr. James Gary Crumpton Jr. of Burlington; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James Gregory Crumpton.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Berea United Church of Christ cemetery.

BENSON - Mr. Danny Ray Gilbert, 37, of 9291 N.C. 96 South, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998.
Survivors include his mother, Ms. Rose Jackson Hernandez of Benson; his father and stepmother, Mr. Garland Gilbert and Mrs. Nancy Gilbert, both of Burlington; two daughters, Ms. Tonya Gilbert and Ms. Ashley Gilbert, both of Benson; four sisters, Ms. Connie Pope of Erwin, Ms. Vickie Wolden of Angier, Ms. Susan Mclamb of Benson and Ms. Tina Spoll of Roseboro; a brother, Mr. Ricky Gilbert of Benson; a stepsister, Ms. Susan Ross of Burlington; a stepbrother, Mr. Tommy Dobson of Burlington; a grandmother, Ms. Tempie Jackson of Dunn; and a grandchild.
