Mr. Roberts McCorkle
GRAHAM - Mr. Roberts Watson McCorkle, 87, of Graham died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his home.
A native of Kayford, W. Va., he was the husband of the late Ms. Gatewood Dunlap McCorkle, and the son of Mr. Eldred Strain McCorkle and Mrs. Jane Watson McCorkle, both deceased. He was a retired electrical engineer with Western Electric. He was a 1933 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va. He was a first Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers, assigned to the signal Corp with the Third Air Force. He was a member of the Graham Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Reid Lawton (Jane) Hill Jr. of Raleigh; one brother, Mr. David Eldred McCorkle of Harrisonburg, Va.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church cemetery in Lexington, Va.
There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Librada Lucas
RANDLEMAN - Mrs. Librada Yare 'Libby' Lucas, 69, of 524 Woodoak Trail, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of the Philippines, she was the wife of Mr. Vernon Lucas, who survives. She was a former employee of Nixon Reynolds Hosiery Mill and was a member of Uwharrie Baptist Church in Archdale.
Survivors other than her husband of Randleman include a daughter, Ms. Edith Atanacio of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Ms. Marie Carter of Greensboro and Ms. Lynda Allison of Long Island, N.Y.; four stepsons, Mr. Wayne Lucas, Mr. Steve Lucas and Mr. William Lucas, all of Greensboro, and Mr. Marshall Lucas of Crossville, Tenn.; a brother, Mr. Arturo 'DoDong' Ramos of the Philippines; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman by the Rev. Doug Byrd. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Monday evening, and at other times at the home.

Kelsey E. Henderson
GRAHAM - Kelsey Elizabeth Henderson, 6 weeks, of 1158 Southern High School Road, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Keith Henderson and Mrs. Judy Henderson, who both survive.
Survivors other than her parents of the home include a sister, Haley Ann Henderson of the home; and grandparents, Mr. Glenn Henderson and Mrs. Jean Garrison Henderson of Snow Camp and Mr. Donald Parks and Mrs. Katrine Parks of Knoxville, Pa.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jeff Roberts, pastor of Bellemont United Methodist Church.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Norman D. Hobby
MEBANE - Mr. Norman Donald Hobby, 72, of 6519 Penecost Road, Cedar Grove, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Hobby, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edward William Hobby and Mrs. Lettie Williams Hobby, both deceased. He was a retired carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 447. He was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Alma Privette and Ms. Lynne Hall; a son, Mr. Don Hobby; three stepson, Mr. Sam James, Mr. Harry James and Mr. Bobby James; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four great-step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion Christian Church in Mebane.
The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening.

Mr. John H. Bowers
GRAHAM - Mr. John Henry Bowers, 60, of 1806 U.S. 70, Mebane, died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at his home after one year of failing health, three weeks critical.
A native of Macon County, he was the husband of Mrs. Bettye Lou May Bowers, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Lillie Wilson Bowers, who survives, and the late Mr. Charlie Columbus Bowers. He was a retired logger.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Burlington include three daughters, Mrs. Tina Wheeley of Mebane, Mrs. Janet 'Penny' Earlywine of Hillsborough and Ms. Donna Kaye Bowers of El Paso, Texas; three sons, Mr. Randy Joe Bowers of Hillsborough, Mr. Robert 'Gene' Bowers of Graham and Mr. John Wayne 'Joker' Bowers of Brunswick; five sisters, Mrs. Blanche Overman of Burlington, Mrs. Nancy Smith of Saxapahaw, Mrs. Linda Bailey of Graham and Mrs. Faye Grizzel and Ms. May Grizzel, both of Hayesville; a brother, Mr. George David Bowers of Graham; 11 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and three great-step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Moore's Chapel cemetery by Bishop Connie Wheeley and the Rev. Robbie Lowe.

Mr. James H. Jeffries
GRAHAM - Mr. James Henry Jeffries, 94, of 616 Ray St., died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Willie Jeffries, and the son of Mr. Jim Jeffries and Mrs. Mary Jeffries, both deceased. He was retired from Graham Hardware Store and was a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Lonnie Jeffries of Graham; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
THe funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Burrus and Burrus Funeral Service in Graham by the Rev. Rodney K. Foxx. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The body may be viewed at Burrus and Burrus Funeral Service from 1 to 6 p.m. today. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Elmer G. Lewis
BURLINGTON - Mr. Elmer G. Lewis, 90, of 100 Wade Coble Drive, died at 4 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Twin Lakes Center.
A native of Halifax County, Va., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Florence Rudder Lewis, and the son of Mr. William Jefferson Lewis and Mrs. Ella Carter Lewis, both deceased. He a was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired Life of Virginia agent. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, where he was former junior deacon, life deacon, former trustee, member of the Mission Committee, Finance Committee, Budget Planning Committee, the Ridgecrest College Committee and was the boys' Sunday school class teacher for 30 years. He was active in the Mount Zion Baptist Association and was active in organizing missions at Holly Hill Baptist Church, Grove Park Baptist Church, Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, Northside Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lydia Kay Chandler Griffith of Punta Banda, Baja California, Mexico; two brothers, Mr. Guy Carter Lewis and Mr. William Henry Lewis, both of Roxboro; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan, pastor, and Sister Cathy Fanslau, chaplain of Twin Lakes Retirement Center. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 today.

Mr. Richard F. Harris
MEBANE - Mr. Richard Frank Harris, 56, of 2511 N.C. 70 West, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at UNC Medical Hospital after a critical illness of four days. native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Gladys P. Harris and the son of Mr. James H. Harris, who survives, and the late Mrs. Erma J. Harris. He was a maintenance technician and a member of Hester's Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the Alamance County Sick Committee and the Non-Denominational Pray Band.
Survivors other than his father of Burlington include two daughters, Ms. Stella Mae Harris and Ms. Tandra Renee Harris, both of the home; six sisters, Ms. Marie Harris of Mebane, and Mrs. Linda Richmond, Mrs. Shirley Poteat, Mrs. Faye King, Ms. Mary Harris and Ms. Jeanice Harris, all of Burlington; four brothers, Mr. James E. Harris, Mr. Clyde Harris and Mr. Dallas Harris, all of Burlington, and Mr. Earlie G. Harris of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hester's Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Clayton Jr., pastor, and the Rev. Harold Carr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed at Burrus and Burrus Funeral Service from 1 to 8 this afternoon. The family will be at the church one hour before the service, and at other times at the home.
Mr. John Puryear Sr.
GRAHAM - Mr. John Payton Puryear Sr., 63, of 732 Oakgrove Drive, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, six weeks critical.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Hopkins Puryear, who survives, and the son of Mr. Ballard T. Puryear and Mrs. Callie Puryear, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Annedeen Hosiery and was a member of the Burlington Moose Lodge.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Karen P. McNeill of Trinity; two sons, Mr. Ricky D. Puryear of Haw River and Mr. John P. Puryear, Jr. of Semora; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Vicki Adams of Carolina Beach and Mrs. Teressa Mauldin of Burlington; two stepsons, Mr. Robert Murray of Carolina Beach and Mr. Kenneth Murray of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Robertson of Roxboro; two brothers, Mr. Winfred Puryear of Roxboro and Mr. William Puryear of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Chapel in Graham by the Rev. George Christopher. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lillian O. Cheek
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Lillian Overman Cheek, 93, of 201 E. Joyner St., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Thomas Carl Cheek, and the daughter of Mr. Charles William Overman and Mrs. Mamie Lee Boone Overman, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gibsonville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies' Circle.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Alvis Cheek of Gibsonville; a daughter, Ms. Betty Moore of Graham; a brother, Mr. Douglas Overman of Whitsett; three sisters, Ms. Frances Busick and Ms. Lahoma Clapp, both of Whitsett, and Ms. Edna Overman of Greensboro; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Thomas Vance Cheek; two brothers, Mr. Clifton Overman and Mr. Clyde Overman; two sisters, Ms. Marjorie Overman and Ms. Ethel Overman.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bartlett Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert M. Smith, pastor of Gibsonville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will be at Bartlett Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son, 511 Dick St., or at the home.

Mr. Anthony DeGenova
MEBANE - Mr. Anthony Joseph DeGenova, 79, of 3764 Old Hillsborough Road, died at 3:09 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after six months of failing health.
A native of Philadelphia, he was the husband of Mrs. Vater Small DeGenova, who survives, and the son of Mr. Salvatore DeGenova and Mrs. Carmella DeGenova, both deceased. He was retired from the federal government in Washington, D.C., and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 63 in Burlington and was a Catholic.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include several sisters and brothers in the Philadelphia area.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Alvin Somerville, OFM Conv., Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home two hours before the service.
