Mrs. Peggie L. Arthur
GRAHAM - Mrs. Peggie Legion Arthur, 91, of 208 E. Hill St., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, after a long illness at a Farmington, N.Y., rest home.
She was a member of Waymon's Chapel AME Church in Graham.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Addie Mae Rogers of Graham; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Don Hugh Funeral Home in Westbury, N.Y.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Waymon's Chapel AME Church by the Rev. Allen Warren, pastor.

Mr. James L. Summers
LIBERTY - Mr. James Leroy 'Pat' Summers, 62, of 4558 Cobb Road died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sarah Bethel Summers, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Ida Hopkins Summers, who survives, and the late Mr. Willie Clay Summers Sr. He was recently retired from P. Lorrilard Company in Greensboro. He was a member of Springdale AME Church, where he was a member of the Trustee Board, the Usher Board and the Men's Fellowship.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Liberty include two daughters, Mrs. Sherry S. Graves of Graham and Miss Sarah Louise Summers of Liberty; two sons, Mr. James Leroy 'Buggy' Summers Jr. and Mr. Barry Summers of Liberty; and a brother, Mr. Willie Clay 'John' Summers Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Springdale AME Church by the Rev. Saundra Bullock, pastor. The body will be placed in the church two hours before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Reid Ross Alexander, 74, of 233 S. Gurney St., died at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ollie K. Chelley
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ollie 'Bigma' Kendrick Chelley, 88, of 1987 Hilton Road, died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of War ren County, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. Henry Chelley, and the daughter of Mr. Mat Kendrick and Mrs. Alice Kendrick Kendrick, both deceased. She was a member of Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Dorothy Felton Crump of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Henry Chelley Jr. of Aiken, S.C., and Mr. James 'Jimmy' Chelley of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Navyjean Augustus of New Orleans and Mrs. Willie J. Chapman of Warrenton, Ga.; a brother, Mr. Jessie K. Kendrick of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Henry Richmond.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ by the Rev. Steven R. Oldham, pastor, the Rev. Ralph Harris and Bishop Harry L. Cohen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Addie S. Parrott
BURLINGTON - Addie Renee Simmons Parrott, infant daughter of Ms. Lisa Dawn Parrott of 271 Jim King Road, Caswell County, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Alamance County.
Survivors other than her mother include maternal grandparents, Mr. Robert O. Parrott Jr. and Mrs. Merry Aldridge Parrott of the home; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. Charlie Rufus and Mrs. Pauline Simmons Aldridge of Yanceyville.
She was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Mr. Oylen and Mrs. Addie Barker Parrott.
The graveside service has been postponed until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints cemetery, conducted by Bishop Vernon Massengill and Elder Lindsey Page, both of the church.
The family will be at the church following the service, and at other times at the home.
Miss Christine Turner
ELON COLLEGE - Miss Christine Turner, 65, of 3057 Sawmill Road, died at 330 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at White Oak Manor in Burlington after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Virgil R. Turner and Mrs. Katie Slade Turner, both deceased. She was a member of the Clover Garden AME Church and former pianist for the chancel choir.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Betty T. Lea of Altamahaw and Mrs. Bernice T. Wooten of LaGrange, Ga.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. William C. Turner.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Clover Garden AME Church by the Rev. R.L. Goode, pastor. Burial will be in the Clover Garden AME Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. G.M. Montgomery
GRAHAM - Mr. G. Marvin Montgomery, 70, of 3624 Boy Wood Road, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Carroll County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Anne Wood Montgomery who survives, and the son of Mr. William Henry Harrison Montgomery and Mrs. Lucy Valeria Stillwell Montgomery, both deceased. Before retiring, he was an engineer with Hughes Aircraft for 32 years. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Valerie Holt Montgomery McRoberts of Placentia, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Imogene M. Alderman of Tustin, Calif., and Mrs. Canary Grimsley of Virginia Beach, Va.; and one brother, Mr. Brooks Montgomery of Hillsville, Va.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jeffrey Kemp Montgomery; two sisters, Ms. Sena M. Martin and Ms. Patricia M. Foster; and a brother, Mr. Lonnie Montgomery.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor, and the Rev. Aubern Lore, retired minister of Mt. Hermon United Method st Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cornelia Eiler
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Cornelia Pierce Eiler, 83, of Ekklesia Retirement Center,
Morehead City, died at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Twin Lakes Retirement Center, Burlington, after an illness of six weeks.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., she was the wife of the late Mr. Frank Augustus Eiler and the daughter of Mr. Harry Cook Pierce and Mrs. Harriett Spencer Pierce, both deceased. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Morehead City.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harriett Eiler Copland of Burlington; one son, Dr. Frank Kendall Eiler of Greensboro; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at Twin Lakes Retirement Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Twin Lakes Chapel by Sister Cathy Fanslau, chaplain of Twin Lakes Retirement Center; the Rev. John Earp, pastor of Macedonia Lutheran Church; and Dr. Clyde Christmas. The family will be at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
A second service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Morehead City by the Rev. C. King Cole. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Gethsemane cemetery in Morehead City.

Mrs. Jennetta Abernathy
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jennetta P. Abernathy, 76, of 211 Colonial Drive, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Alamance Skilled Nursing Division.
A native of Cramerton, she was the wife of Mr. Richard F. Abernathy, who survives, and the daughter of Schumpert Pennington and Annie Greene Pennington, both deceased. She was retired from Camera Corner and attended Haw River Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Teresa R. Spillman of Carolina Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Mason and Mrs. Anne Bryan, both of Burlington; one brother, Mr. Clyde S. Pennington of Cocoa, Fla.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Murray Pennington and Mr. Paul Pennington.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Rich & Thompson Chapel by the Rev. James Rosser of Haw River Christian Church. Burial will be in Rich & Thompson Mortuary.

Mrs. Eva Corbett
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Eva Corbett died Dec. 27, 1997, in her home.
A native of Granville County, she was the wife of Mr. George Corbett, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Lennie Montangue and Mrs. Marie Thorpe Montangue, both deceased. She received her education in Granville County, and attended Fayetteville State University and Winston-Salem State College, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. She received her master's degree in education from North Carolina A&T State University and worked toward her doctorate at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked as a secretary for the extension service in Alamance County, a teacher in Wilkes County, Cedar Grove Elementary School, C.W. Stanford, and Orange County, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Belton Creek Baptist Church in Granville County, First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, and Mt. Bright Baptist Church and First Community Baptist Church, both in Hillsborough.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include one son, Mr. George Lennie Corbett, of the home; and two sisters, Ms. Francis Harris of East Orange, N.J., and Mrs. Georgie Anna Evans of Butner.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Community Baptist Church by the Rev. William Richardson. Burial will be in White Oak Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at First Community Baptist Church from 7 to 8 this evening.
