Mr. Grady R. Andrews
GRAHAM - Mr. Grady Robert Andrews, 86, formerly of Flowers Street, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Alamance after six months of failing health.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dottie Wilson Andrews, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Shephard and Mrs. Susie Wheeley Andrews, both deceased. He was retired from Cone Mills in Haw River after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a member of Graham Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors other than his wife of Graham include two brothers, Mr. Joseph C. 'J.C.' Andrews of Burlington and Mr. Samuel 'Sam' Andrews of Graham; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Turner.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Linwood cemetery by the Rev. James C. Moon, pastor of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service.
Mrs. Ophelia Knighten
GRAHAM - Mrs. Ophelia May Glenn Knighten, 86, of 2846 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after a long period of failing health.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of the late Mr. Loman Melvin Knighten Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Gattis Glenn and Mrs. Addie Ola Dollar Glenn, both deceased. She was retired from Sellars Manufacturing and was a member of Saxapahaw Evangelical Friends Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. James Knighten of Graham and Mr. William Knighten of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Harold Knighten and Mr. Melvin Knighten.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saxapahaw Evangelical Friends Church by the Rev. Arnold Faw, pastor, and the Rev. Gaither Reich, former pastor. Burial will be in Moore's Chapel cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. James Knighten, 1648 Petty Road, Graham.
Mrs. Lois B. Woods
PURLEY - Mrs. Lois Burton Woods, 89, of 4575 Old N.C. 86 North, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Roman Eagle Nursing Center in Danville, Va.
Born July 17, 1908, in Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. John A. Woods, who died April 21, 1961, and the daughter of Mr. John Drewry Burton and Mrs. Claudia Compton Burton, both deceased. She was a former school teacher at Providence School. She was a dietitian for DPI and operated a catering service from her home. She was a member of Caswell Chapter 239 Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Daughter of Confederates. She was a member of Purley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Andy G. Woods and Mr. John B. Woods, both of Purley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Purley Untied Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Floyd R. Morrow.
The family will be at Marley Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the homes of her sons.

Miss Patricia D. Bare
GRAHAM - Miss Patricia Diane Bare, 36, of 3167 Pickwood Drive, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after an illness of one month.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Sonny Bare and Mrs. Peggy Wilson Bare, who both survive. She was a waitress and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her parents of the home include two sisters, Mrs. Janice Bare Lloyd and Mrs. Joyce Bare Ritter, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Tommy Bare of Burlington; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle Long Wilson of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Allan Ritter, pastor of North Graham Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jackie Franks, pastor of Kimesville Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Kimesville Road Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 1 to 2:30 Sunday afternoon before the service, and at other times at the home.
Miss Shannon Thompson
GRAHAM - Miss Shannon Mae Thompson, 6, of 5055 Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road, died at 2:19 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Orange County, she was the daughter of Ms. Darlene C. Cole and Mr. Alfred Haywood Thompson III, who both survive. She attended Alamance Development Center and was a Shriners Cerebral Palsy Child.
Survivors other than her mother of the home and father of Graham include two half-sisters, Miss Jamie Cole of the home and Miss Nikki Thompson of Burlington; maternal grandparents, Mr. John and Mrs. Cecilia Creviston of Burlington; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alfred H. (Ann) Thompson Jr. of Haw River; maternal great-grandmothers, Ms. Cecilia Beutler of North, S.C., and Mrs. Isabelle Creviston of Galion, Ohio; and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. L.E. Atkinson of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 Monday evening, and at other times at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Creviston, 2833 Maple Ave., Burlington.

Miss Jett L. Harviel
BURLINGTON - Miss Jett Louvenia Harviel, of 414 W. Front St., died Saturday morning, Feb. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Cornelius, she was the daughter of Mr. Ernest W. Harviel and Mrs. Frances Ada Fisher Harviel, both deceased. She was a part owner of Harviel Antique Company - JeNell Inc. She was also a secretary and treasurer for Burlington City Schools, having served with four superintendents and she retired in 1978. She graduated from Burlington High School as salutatorian of the class and from Burlington Business College. She made many contributions to the Burlington City Schools. She was a past member of the Burlington Business and Professional Women's Club and of the Mutual Concert Series. She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, where she had life membership in Women's Work, worked for many years in the Primary Department and decorated for many religious and social events. She was a member of Alamance-Burlington Retired School Personnel, N.C. Retired Governmental Employees Association, N.C. Senior Citizens Association and of Senior Advantage Association of Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Nell M. Harviel of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Jay C. Harviel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Skip Williams, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 2 to 3:30 Monday afternoon.

Mr. Charlie Christopher
BURLINGTON - Mr. Charlie L. Christopher, 94, of 1710 Lower Hopedale Road, died at 4:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lillie Faucette Christopher, the late Mrs. Nell Denning Christopher, and Mrs. Pauleete K. 'Polly' Christopher, who survives. He was the son of Mr. James David Christopher and Mrs. Blanche Coble Christopher, both deceased. He was a retired brick and stone mason and was a member of Power Line Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Laura Faulkner of Burlington; a son, Mr. Charlie Luther Christopher of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Matthews of Burlington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Linda Corzine of Gastonia; two stepsons, Mr. Johnny Brimburg of Burlington and Mr. Keith Brimburg of Gastonia; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Glenn Richard Christopher and Mr. Worth Andrew Christopher.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Power Line Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. Tim Taylor, pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

BURLINGTON - Mr. William Marion Phillips, 75, of Dogwood Rest Home, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Viney Tapp
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Viney Tapp, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at her home.
Born March 28, 1908, in Person County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lea Tapp and the daughter of Mr. John Tapp and Mrs. Lillian Villines Tapp, both deceased. She was educated in the Person County School System and was a member of Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Jean Bell and Ms. Ella Brooks, both of Hillsborough, and Ms. Edna Tapp of New York; five brothers, Mr. Roy Tapp of Hillsborough, Mr. Haywood Tapp of Greensboro, Mr. John Henry Tapp and Mr. Harvey Tapp, both of Burlington, and Mr. Otis Tapp of Mebane; three sisters, Ms. Madgelene Tapp, Ms. Olga Tapp and Ms. Lena Tapp, all of Burlington; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church by Elder John Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

HAW RIVER - Mrs. Myrtle Lenora Sykes Miller, 83, of 119 Ferris St., died at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Jesse D. Webster Sr. and the late Mr. Willie F. Miller Sr. She was the daughter of Mr. Samuel Marshall Sykes and Mrs. Ida Cook Sykes, both deceased. She was a member of Haw River Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Sue Dickey of Burlington; and a son, Mr. Willie F. Miller Jr. of Haw River.

Mr. John D. Shepherd
GRAHAM - Mr. John Daniel 'J.D.' Shepherd, 82, of 245 Windsor Road, died at 10:33 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after several years of failing health.
He was the husband of Mrs. Annie Cook Shepherd, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charlie Patterson Shepherd and Mrs. Alice Capps Shepherd, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Orange Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a brother, Mr. Burl Shepherd of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Carrie Shepherd Green.
