Mrs. Myrtle S. Miller
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Myrtle Lenora Sykes Miller, 83, of 119 Ferris St., died at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at her home after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Jesse D. Webster Sr. and the late Mr. Willie F. Miller Sr. She was the daughter of Mr. Samuel Marshall Sykes and Mrs. Ida Cook Sykes, both deceased. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Sue Dickey of Burlington; a son, Mr. Willie F. 'Bill' Miller Jr. of Haw River; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Sue Smith, Mrs. Peggy Smith and Mrs. Janet Wilkinson, all of Mebane, a stepson, Mr. David Webster of Shelby; 9 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Marshall Miller.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Richard Meyers. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of the son, 810 Sherri Drive, Haw River.

Ms. Mary E. Cooper
MEBANE - Ms. Mary Elizabeth Cooper, 42, of Graves Rest Home, 325 Hall Ave., Burlington, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
Miles Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
Mr. James W. Wheeler
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Winfred 'Jim' Wheeler, 78, of 1314 Kenwood Drive, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after five years of failing health, one month critical.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Charlotte Edwards Wheeler, who survives, and the son of Mr. Wilmer C. Presnell and Mrs. Maude Lee Tysor Presnell, both deceased. He was a retired salesman for Carolina Food Brokers and was a former member of Alamance Seniors Golf Association, 50 Plus Golfers and Southwick Golf Club. He was a former Boy Scout leader at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Wheeler Boyd of Graham; two foster brothers, Mr. Charles Walter 'Charlie' Presnell of Tampa, Fla., and Mr. Jackson Tysor Presnell of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Norman M. Whitney, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times the home.

Miss Mary E. Cooper
MEBANE - Miss Mary Elizabeth Cooper, 46, of 421 Fitch Drive, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Annie Cooper Alston, who survives, and the late Mr. Walter Cooper. She attended Sellars Gunn High School.
Survivors other than her mother of Hillsborough include four sisters, Mrs. Mae Sue Poteat and Miss Barbara Alston, both of Yanceyville, Miss Janet Alston of New York and Miss Edith Alston of Burlington; three brothers, Mr. James Love and Mr. Anthony Alston, both of Mebane, and Mr. Louis Alston of Yanceyville; two stepsisters, Ms. Emma Jean Alston and Miss Dena Mae Alston; and two stepbrothers, Mr. Carol Alston and Mr. Leroy Alston.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Edward Alston.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. H.V. Miles. Burial will be in White Level Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 this evening.
Ms. Ollie H. Brande
REIDSVILLE - Ms. Ollie Haney Brande, 94, of 239 Turner Drive, died Tuesday evening, March 3, 1998, at Maplewood Nursing Center.
A native of Rockingham County, she was retired from the American Tobacco Company and was a member of Thompsonville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Barbara Somers of Gibsonville; a son, Mr. Arlon Brande of Raleigh; a sister, Ms. Dora Moore of Reidsville; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 312 Brown Chapel Road, Gibsonville.
Mr. Russell H. Fenton
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Russell H. Fenton, 79, of 1846 Prince Edward Drive, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
He was the husband for 53 years of Mrs. Dorothy Moore Fenton, who survives. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II and was retired from A&P Grocery. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elon College.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Michael A. Fenton of Greensboro; a daughter, Ms. June F. Gray of Mebane; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm Street Chapel. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening.
Ms. Mary V. Barker
ELKIN - Ms. Mary Virginia Barker, 86, of Elkin, died at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1911, in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of Mr. Harry Henline Barker and Mrs. Edith Grier Barker, both deceased. She was a graduate of Elkin schools and Women's College of the University of North Carolina. She taught school in Elkin and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elkin.
Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Margaret Barker Noe of Elkin and Mrs. Lloyd (Jo) Beal of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Geraldine Barker Smith and a brother, Mr. Bud Barker.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Hollywood cemetery by the Rev. Sandy Giles.
The family will be at the cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mr. M. Delmer Williams
WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. M. Delmer Williams, 73, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998.
He was the husband of Mrs. Frances Teague Williams, who survives. He was retired from R.J. Renyolds Tobacco Co. He and his wife were former residents of Alamance County.
Survivors other than his wife of the home [and a native of Snow Camp], include two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Debbie) Pickard of Greensboro and Mrs. Ronnie (Elizabeth) Hester of Winston-Salem; two sons, Mr. Joe Williams of Lake Ridge, Va. and Mr. John Williams of the home; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be announced at a later date.

Davey H. Allison
GIBSONVILLE - Davey Holt Allison, 1 month and 2 days old, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was son of Mr. Julius Allison and Mrs. Michelle Allison of 201 Goodson Ave.
He was a native of Alamance County.
Survivors other than his parents include two sisters, Miss Alyssa Allison and Miss Ashley Maready of the home; maternal grandmother, Ms. Toyoko Bull of Swepsonville; and paternal grandmother, Ms. Mary Allison of Gibsonville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. [Thursday] today at Gibsonville City cemetery by the Rev. Bruce Ritter, pastor of the Christian Life Center of Gibsonville.
The family will be at the home of his paternal grandmother [Ms. Mary Allison], 333 Burke Street, Gibsonville.

Mrs. Rebecca Patterson
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Rebecca Owen Patterson, 84, of Twin Lakes Center, 3905 Calvin Court, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at the center.
Born July 2, 1913, in Nathalie, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. John G. Patterson Jr., and the daughter of Mr. Walter E. Owen and Mrs. Lottie DeJarnette Owen, both deceased. She was formerly of South Boston, Va. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in South Boston, where she was a member of the E.C.W.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Patricia Patterson Spahr of Travelers Rest, S.C.; two sons, Mr. Daniel B. Patterson of Burlington and Dr. Henry O. Patterson of Reading, Pa.; a sister, Ms. Elizabeth O. Younger of Nathalie; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. John G. Patterson III.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. Norm Baty. Entombment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston.
The family will be at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. J.D. Holmes
EFLAND - Mr. Junius David 'J.D.' Holmes, 75, of 4801 Buckhorn Road, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Betty Ruth Durham Holmes, who survives, and the son of Mr. George Wilburn Holmes and Mrs. Ala Howard Holmes, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Kingsdown Inc. in Mebane and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Margaret) Holloway of Efland; three sons, Mr. Ronald Lee Holmes of Chapel Hill, Mr. George Luther Holmes of Mebane and Mr. Donald 'Don' David Holmes of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Marie Albright of Efland; two brothers, Mr. George Leonard Holmes Sr. and Mr. Thomas Truitt Holmes, both of Efland; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Cane Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Gregg Hemmen and the Rev. Archie Hobbs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.
