Mr. Wayne W. Holman
MEBANE - Mr. Wayne Walker Holman of 4618 U.S. 70, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Gwendolyn Mitchell Holman, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Cleo Josephine Holman, who survives, and the late Mr. Joseph Walker Holman. He was a machinist at Dixie Yarns and was a member of White Cross AME Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Mebane include a son, Mr. Corey Wayne Holman of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Temeka Holman Hinnant of Chapel Hill; seven brothers, Mr. Larry B. Holman, the Rev. Donald Holman and Mr. June M. Holman, all of Mebane, Mr. Percy L. Holman of Newark, N.J., Mr. James D. Holman of Savannah, Ga., Mr. Linwood Holman of Durham and Mr. Terry Holman of Greensboro; four sisters, Ms. Jo Ann Holman of Germany, Mrs. Pegg H. Atwater of Mebane, Mrs. Glenda H. Johnson and Mrs. Shelia H. Long, both or Durham; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at White Cross AME Church by the Rev. Milton Battle, pastor, and the Rev. Clyde Long Jr. Burial will be be in the church cemetery.
The family will be be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Celia O. Spoon
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mrs. Celia Oakley Spoon, 67, of Columbia, S.C., died Sunday morning, March 8, 1998, at her home after two months failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Elder Ernest Francis Oakley and Emma Oliver Oakley, both deceased. She was a retired schoolteacher and was employed with Southern Way Catering. She formerly taught at Haw River High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, where she was a member of the sanctuary choir. She was a 'Personal Touch' volunteer at Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Sheridon Hunter Spoon and Mr. Myron Charles Spoon, both of the home. Two brothers, Mr. Reid Nash Oakley and Mr. James Lynn Oakley, both of Burlington; and two sisters, Mrs. Doris O. Cheek of Raleigh and Mrs. Frances O. Woody of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Ernest B. 'Sonny' Oakley.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, in Columbia. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Divine Street Chapel, Columbia.

Mr. 'Eb' Brigman Jr.
MEBANE - Mr. 'Eb' Belton Brigman Jr., 71, of 708 N. Carr St., died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of McCall, S.C., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rogers Brigman and the son of Mr. Elijah Belton Brigman Sr. and Mrs. Juanita
Harris Brigman, both deceased. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 272 for 25 years and a veteran.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lisa Brigman Wallace of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Robert Bruce Brigman of Fairfax, Va., and Mr. Joseph Warren Brigman of Mebane; two brothers, Mr. Thurman Brigman and Mr. Foy Brigman, both of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood cemetery by the Rev. Terry Farmer and the Rev. Alan Ritter.
The family be at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening.
Ms. Dorothy Watlington
YANCEYVILLE - Ms. Dorothy Slade Watlington, 72, of 104 Hodges Dairy Road, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after several months of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. James Irvin Watlington Sr., who survives, and the daughter of the late Mr. Harry C. Slade and Mrs. Fannie Woods Slade. She had lived in Rockingham County for many years, but relocated to Caswell County. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was a homemaker.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include one son, Mr. James Irvin Watlington Jr. of Yanceyville; two sisters, Ms. Betsy Slade Wampler of Greensboro and Ms. Lucy Slade Libby of Annapolis, Md.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Harry Slade Jr., Mr. Halcott Slade and Mr. Herbert Slade.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson and the Rev. Marie Reed.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and at
other times at the home.

Mrs. Sallie Ligon
CEDAR GROVE - Mrs. Sallie Mae Oliver Ligon, 94, of Old Efland-Cedar Grove Road, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Durham Regional Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Cedar Grove, she was the wife of the late Mr. Luther A. Ligon and the daughter of Mr. Thomas L. Oliver and Mrs. Lela Crisp Oliver, both deceased. She was a graduate of Elon College, where she received a degree in education. She was awarded a master's degree in education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A long-time resident of Oxford, she taught English and Latin at Oxford Orphanage. On her retirement, she was presented a plaque with the inscription, 'For Love and Affection for 47 Years of Education and Guidance to the Students of Oxford Orphanage.' Some years later, the orphanage built and dedicated the Sallie Mae Ligon Archives Building on campus in appreciation for her years of service. She was an active member of Eno Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, where she taught Sunday school and was the first female Elder. She was a member of the N.C. Retired Teachers Association; the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international honor society for teachers; and a charter member and first Worthy Matron of the Oxford Chapter No. 94 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Irene Pender and Mrs. Ellese Nickles, both of Cedar Grove; two brothers, Mr. Robert Oliver and Mr. Chris Oliver, both of Cedar Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Helen Oliver Carr and Ms. Pauline Oliver Lloyd.
The funeral service will conducted at 3 p.m. today at Eno Presbyterian Church, Cedar Grove, by the Rev. Dr. Robert Brizendine. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of Eno Presbyterian Church, Cedar Grove, or to the Oxford Orphanage, Oxford, N.C.

Mr. Herbert L. Turner
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Herbert Lea Turner, 69, of 829 Cobb Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Born Jan. 17, 1929, in McDowell County, W.Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Savannah Elizabeth Bigelow Turner, who survives, and the son of Mr. Sterling Turner and Mrs. Florda Watlington Turner, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Flynt Fabric and was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was the former Sunday school treasurer.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one son, Mr. Dean Ronald Turner of Yanceyville; two daughters, Mrs. Ella Laverne Richmond of Elon College and Mrs. Valerie T. Graves of Fayetteville; two brothers, Mr. Sterling Turner Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Henry Obrient Turner of Durham; two sisters, Mrs. Helen T. Gaston of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Eliza Roane of Fountain, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. B.R. Inge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bessie H. Oliver
GREENSBORO - Mrs. Bessie H. Oliver, 83, formerly of 5512 Fallingbrook Drive, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the Evergreens Nursing Center.
A native of Montgomery County, she was the wife for 59 years of Roy W. Oliver Sr. She was a member of Newlyn Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Roy W. Oliver Jr. and Mr. Harold E. Oliver Sr., both of Greensboro; one sister, Ms. Lee Marshburn Hanes of Greensboro; one brother, Mr. James Oscar Connor of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel. Burial will be at Guilford Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bessie B. Webster
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Bessie Buck Webster, 79, of 406 Trollingwood Road, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998 at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, two months critical.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. William L. Webster Sr. and pthe daughter of Mr. Zeb Vance Buck and Mrs. Bertha Lee Hazelwood Buck, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Haw River Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sons, William L. 'Bill' Webster Jr. of Liberty and Master Sgt. Larry F. Webster of Fort Jackson, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Polli Swaringen of Graham and Mrs. Inez Smith of Powells, Tenn.; one stepson, Mr. James Webster of Durham; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. James L. Rosser, pastor, and the Rev. Richard Myers, associate pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

RALEIGH - Mrs. Mary Amanda Goode, of 714 Method Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998.
Survivors include six sons, Mr. Alexander W. Goode Jr. of Mitchellville, Md., Mr. John O. Goode Sr. of Fort Washington, Md., the Rev. Robert L. Goode of Burlington, Mr. George E. Goode, Mr. Nelson D. Goode and Darrell A. Goode, all of Raleigh; seven daughters, Ms. Betty G. Christmas, Ms. Jean C. Goode, Mrs.
Marcelle (Frances G.) Corbett, Mrs. Frankie (Estella G.) Williams, Ms. Patricia D. Goode, and Mrs. Stewart (Velcia G.) Scott, all of Raleigh, and Mrs. Ben (Melba G.) McCallum of Rockingham; one brother, Mr. George Burton; one sister, Ms. Gladys McCray; 47 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. James AME Church.
Interment will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes before the service.

BURLINGTON - Mr. James Randolph Pugh, 70, of 2044 Chapel Hill Road, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Mrs. Minnie Wilson
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Minnie Howard Wilson, 91, of 362 Foster Lane, died at 2:57 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of three months.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George Frank Wilson and the daughter of Mr. George Paul and Mrs. Hattie H. Bradsher, both deceased. She was a member of Jeffries Cross Baptist Church and the mother of the church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Alease Torain and Mrs. Mary Freeland, both of Burlington; four daughters, Mrs. Kathleen W. Enoch, Mrs. Vernice W. Enoch and Mrs. Maxine W. Anderson, all of Burlington and Mrs. Doris W. Tinnin of the home; four sons, Mr. Joe L. Wilson and Mr. Howard E. Wilson, both of Burlington and Mr. Earl H. Wilson and Mr. McGee Wilson, both of Greensboro; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Mr. James Allen Wilson, Mr. George Finley Wilson and Mr. Richard Eugene Wilson; six brothers, the Rev. Odell Wilson, the Rev. Alonzo Wilson, Mr. Charles Paul, Mr. Jack Paul, Mr. Rufus Paul and Mr. George Phillip Paul; and six sisters, Mrs. Pearl Graves, Mrs. Lula Cohn, Mrs. Inerva Bradshaw, Mrs. Rosie Bigelow, Mrs. Mattie Howard and Mrs. Annie Mills.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jeffries Cross Baptist Church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service.
