Mrs. Ophelia K. Baker
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ophelia Kemp Baker, 75, of 2109 N. Ashland St., died Monday, March 9, 1998, in Petersburg, Va., after an illness of two years.
A native of Hancock County, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. Welbon Baker, and the daughter of Mrs. Lillie Mae Kemp Capps and Mr. Jeffrey Kemp, both deceased. She was a home health care employee and was a member of First Baptist Church on Apple Street.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Teressa Baker Law of Fort Lee, Va., Mrs. Gwendolyn Baker Thomas of Hopewell, Va., and Mrs. Pamela Baker Graves of Greenville, S.C.; four sons, Mr. Larry Baker and Mr. Robert Baker, both of Burlington, Mr. Gary Baker of Greensboro and Mr. Keith Baker of Butner; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon today at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lacy Pinnix. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home.
Mrs. Emma Rautiola
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Emma H. Rautiola, 80, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1917, in Universal, Ind., she was the wife for 60 years to Mr. Arthur Rautiola, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Joseph Heureux and Mrs. Lenora Heureux, both deceased.
Survivors other than her husband include a son, Mr. Kenneth Rautiola of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Joseph Heureux of Michigan; a sister, Ms. Amelia Heureux of Alabama; and two grandchildren.
A private memorial service is planned for a later date.

Mr. Cecil C. Crawford
HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Cecil Clay Crawford, 87, of 6925 Orange Grove Road, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Orange County, he was a retired dairy farmer. He was a life member of Cane Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Beulah Mae Crawford of Hillsborough; and a brother, Mr. Settle Crawford of White Cross Community.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cane Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Gregg Hemmen and the Rev. Aubrey T. Quakenbush. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough from 5 to 7 this evening.

Mr. Bobby Lloyd
CHAPEL HILL - Mr. Bobby McKenzie Lloyd, 62, of 5218 N.C. 54, Chapel Hill, died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, March 13, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of three weeks.
McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.
Mr. Clarence Sharpe Sr.
EFLAND - Mr. Clarence Newton Sharpe Sr., 86, of 7819 High Rock Road died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born July 21, 1911, in Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Erma Hawkins Sharpe, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Sharpe and Mrs. Annie Jobe Sharpe, both deceased. He was a retired machinist with Newport News Ship Yard. He was a member of Mount Adar Baptist Church in Mebane, where he was a deacon.
Survivors other than his wife of Efland include a stepmother, Mrs. Marie Brady Sharpe of Pinehurst; three sons, Mr. Clarence Newton 'Sonny' Sharpe Jr. of Lake Waccamaw, Mr. Wilbur Ray Sharpe of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mr. Donald Anthony Sharpe of Whiteville; two daughters, Ms. Edith Gayle Meadows of Odin, Ill., and Ms. Rebecca Lee Sharpe of Efland; a half brother, Mr. John Sharpe Jr. of Henderson; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Adar Baptist Church by the Rev. Chad Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Brooks and White Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening.
Mrs. Adel G. Woods
GRAHAM - Mrs. Adel Graves Woods, 84, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born March 1, 1914, in Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Lawance Graves and Mrs. Julie Foust Graves, both deceased. She was a member of Melfield United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Mr. David Woods of Haw River; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Marie White and Ms. Nellie Mae Foust, both of Haw River; two brothers, Mr. Albert Graves and Mr. Alton Graves, both of Haw River; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Garrett of Haw River and Mrs. Effie Watson of Graham; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Melfield United Church of Christ.
The family will be at the church from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of the son.

Mr. Samuel C. Jobe
MEBANE - Mr. Samuel Cornelius Jobe, 88, formerly of Mebane, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Monroe.
Born July 27, 1909, in Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Bell James Jobe, and the son of Mr. James Franklin Jobe and Mrs. Corenna Della Brown, both deceased. He was retired from White Furniture Company. He was a member of Mebane United Methodist Church for 50 years.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Fredrick Jobe of Stallings.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Talmage Jobe, Mr. James Albert Jobe and Mr. Highfill Jobe; and seven sisters, Ms. Mary Jobe, Ms. Lula Jobe, Ms. Corenna Hightower, Ms. Patty Sykes, Ms. Carrie Cheek, Ms. Bessie McAdams and Ms. Zella Nicholson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. Al Trotter.
The body may be viewd at Walker's Funeral Home of Mebane from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Ruth F. Taylor
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruth Forrester Taylor, 81, of 1132 Ava St., died Thursday evening, March 12, 1998, at her home after three years of failing health.
A native of Rocky Mount, she was the wife of the late Mr. Coy Phillip Taylor, and the daughter of Mr. Chester A. Forrester and Mrs. May Knutti Forrester, both deceased. She was a retired cafeteria employee at Turrentine Junior High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elon College, where she was a member of the Edith Poole Sunday school class, the Happy Morning Club, the Midweek Bible Study Group and Circle No. 5.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Stephen Phillip Taylor of High Point and Mr. Kenneth Lee Taylor of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Chester Forrester Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Randall Innes, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Elon College. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Matthew Bradsher
MEBANE - Mr. Matthew 'Pap' Bradsher, 76, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at his home.
Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Orange County, he was the son of Mr. Arthur Bradsher and Mrs. Lucinda Graves Bradsher, both deceased.
Survivors include two nieces, Ms. Barbara Bradsher and Ms. Charlotte Bradsher, both of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie B. Poole of Cedar Grove, Mrs. Dorothy B. Pettiford and Mrs. Gladys B. White, both of Mebane.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. T.E. Taylor, pastor of Lee's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mount Zion AME Church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Mrs. Edna Bass
STATESVILLE - Mrs. Edna Self Bass, 75, a resident of the Brian Center, formerly of Graham, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 13, 1998, at Columbia Davis Medical Center in Statesville.
A native of Graham, she was the wife for 50 years to Mr. Henry F. 'Buck' Bass, who died May 12, 1995. She was the daughter of Mr. William Henry Self and Mrs. Mrytle Clapp Self, both deceased.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frankie B. Johnson of Statesville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ruth Hiatt of Mebane; and a grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Paul A. Lane, pastor of First Baptist Church of Graham, and Dr. Ralph E. Jones Jr., former pastor.

GIBSONVILLE - Ms. Nora Billings Arquette, 68, of 147 Huffine St., Lot 4, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, March 13, 1998, at her home.
A native of Galax, Va., she was the daughter of Mr. Cicero Billings and Mrs. Rose Bell Billings, both deceased. She was retired from Glencoe Mills and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Bobby Lee Arquette of the home; three sisters, Ms. Jane Claywell of Gibsonville, Ms. Guydia Beck and Ms. Mary Smith, both of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Scott Billings of Galax and Mr. Billy Jack Billings of Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Linoal Faye Arquette.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at Riverdale Baptist Church by the Rev. Eugene Webb, pastor.
