Mrs. Ina Smith Rector, age 83, of 4689 Hwy 18N. Sparta, died Saturday morning, December 17, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Clifford Rector, and was preceded in death by an infant son, Harold Rector, and a great-grandson, Larry Paul Rector. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bob Wright of Sparta; two sons and daughtes-in-law, Larry and Bonnie Rector of Ennice, and Harry and Ann Rector of Hickory; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne and Reba Smith of Ennice; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Bob and Betty Wright at 404 Pleasant Home Road off Hwy 18 N., Sparta. Little Aaleyah Faith Cessa, age 22 days of Sparta, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandmother, Edna Crouse Hall. She is survived by her parents, Jaime Cessa Carrillo and Ashlee Hackler of Sparta; maternal grandmother, Terri Feimster of Sparta; maternal grandfather, Freddie Hackler of Galax, Va; paternal grandparents, Pedro Cessa Aquilar and Eudocia Carrillo Aponte of Mexico; maternal great-grandparents, Dan Hall of Sparta, and Edward Crouse and wife Eleanor of Sparta; aunts and uncles, Amber Hackler of Sparta, Tosha Redd of Sparta, Jose Noe Cessa Carrilo of Sparta, Victor Cessa Carrillo of Sparta, Elvia Cessa Carrilo of Mexico, and Joel Cessa Carrillo, Ismael Cessa Carrillo and Olivia Cessa Carrillo, all of Mexico; and two cousins, Cristian Hackler and Noe Cessa Carrillo. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 19th at the Antioch cemetery in the Stratford Community. The family will be at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Geraldine Jones Absher, age 61, of 4162 Walnut Branch Church Road, Sparta, died Wednesday evening, December 14, 2005, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was the daughter of the late Mastin and Lela Jones and was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Absher; a brother, Talmadge Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Absher. She is survived by her husband, Roy Lee Absher of the home; a son, Randy Absher of Sparta; two grandchildren, Rodney and Kayla Absher, both of Sparta; four sisters, Irene Absher of Piney Creek, Hazel Black of Sparta, Levon Bell of Mouth of Wilson, VA, and Edna Chatmans of Hays; two brothers, Ralph and Cecil Jones of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17th, at the New Home Freewill Baptist Church at Piney Creek. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Samuel Clyde Evans, age 78, of 179 Combs St., Sparta, died Thursday morning, December 15, 2005, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He is survived by his wife, Francis Perry Evans of the home; sons and daughters, Boyd and Zera Alley of King, and Billy and Debra Alley of Sparta; three sisters, Minnie Lou Riling of Inverness, Florida,; Viola Gay Tilley of Winston-Salem, and Lillie Mae Halsey of Glade Valley; grandchildren, Stephen Alley of King, Matthew and Susan Alley of King, Jason and Angela Clemons of Sparta, Teresa and Jason Albertson of Sparta, and Billy Alley, Jr. and Pansey Sparks of Sparta; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Hannah Alley of King, Jordan, Keaton and Colby Albertson of Sparta, Riley and Jason Clemons of Sparta, and Sidney and Dylan Moxley of Sparta. Carol Anderson Taylor, age 78, of 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin; died Monday, December 12, 2005, at the Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Hal Transou of State Road; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lou Ann Taylor of Lexington, Ky; and three grandchildren, Haley and Tyler Transou and Steven Taylor. Mrs. Florence Edwards Waddell, age 96, of 202 Painter St., Galax, Va, and formerly of Alleghany County, died Sunday evening, December 11, 2005, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. She was preceded in death by husbands, Homer Edwards and Dr. Robert Wadell; a daughter-in-law, Skye Edwards; a sister, Cora Marie Collins; and three brothers, Elmer Elwood Arnold, Lloyd and Glenn Arnold. She is survived by three sons, Ralph T. Edwards and wife Gelene of Kingsport, TN, Russell Edwards and wife Mary Jane of Suwanee, GA, and James Edwards of Cornelius, NC; a sister, Mary Saleeby of Salisbury; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pauline Sexton Webb, age 85, of 1021 New Haven Road, Sparta, died Sunday evening, December 11, 2005, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Garnett and Clyde Jones Sexton and was preceded in death by a brother, Dodge Sexton. She is survived by her husband, E. Max Webb of the home; a sister, Georgia Johnson and husband Jim, of Orange Park, Florida; a brother, Ford Sexton of Sparta; two nieces, Pam Brady of Laurel Springs and Angela Bailey of Middleburg, Fla; two nephews, Steve Sexton of Hillsville, Va., and Lewis Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla; a sister-in-law, Grace Sexton of Sparta; her aunt, Mable Sheets of Sparta; eight great-nieces; and nephews. Mr. Paul Columbus Brannock, age 91, of 29 Brannock Lane, Ennice, NC, died Wednesday morning, December 7, 2005, at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Smith Brannock of the home; one son, Joe Brannock of Ennice; a grandson, Wesley Brannock of Ennice; a great-grandson, Brett Brannock of Hillsville, Va; his special caregivers, Tracy Wagoner of Piney Creek and Lorene Barnes of Ennice; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. Lena Christine Chapman, age 31, of 41, Alleghany Manor Road, Sparta, died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at her home. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Chapman of the home; her parents, Chuck and Pam Chapman of the home; two sisters, Leanne Evans and husband Henry of Sparta, and Lisa Chapman, of Sparta; maternal grandparents, Richard L. and Lottie Spinks of Elyria, Ohio; one niece, Leah Chapman of Sparta; and one nephew, Tommy Evans of Sparta. Mr. Clarton “Teague” Perdue, age 81, of 179 Combs St., Sparta, died Monday evening, January 30, 2006, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lee Evans Perdue. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jeff Cobler of Mount Airy; and two grandchildren, Johnnie and Richard Eldridge of Mt. Airy. Mr. Edward Max Webb, age 86, of 1021 New Haven Road, Sparta, died Saturday evening, April 15, 2006, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Sexton Webb and four sisters, Etta Hughes, Mayra Bryant, Jennie Tipton and Emma Smith. Max was born in Mitchell County on October 25, 1919, to the late, Jason and Rittie Whitson Webb. He was a retired supervisor for Roses, Inc. He is survived by nieces, Eloise Henline of Bakersville, Ruth Grove of Bridgewater, Kate Young of Bessimer City, Angela Bailey of Middleburg, Fla., and Pam Brady of Sparta; nephews, Denis Tipton of Candler, Steve Sexton of Hillsville, Va., and Lewis Johnson of Pinellas Park, Fla; and his in-laws, Ford Sexton and Grace Sexton, both of Sparta, and Jim and Georgia Johnson of Orange Park, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18th, at the Church of the Brethren at New Haven. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Bowie Church, age 80, of 422 Grayson Street, Sparta, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was born in Ashe County on June 21, 1925, to Luther and Nora Parish Church. He served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Burman and Claude Church; and two sisters, Lois Atwood and Josephine Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Gwyn Blackburn Church of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Margot Church of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Laura Church; one grandson, Jacob Church; a brother and sister-in-law, Vince and Ruth Church of Black Mountain; a sister-in-law, Helen Church of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sparta cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034.
