PARSONS Mr. Bays Erett Parsons, age 85, of 88 Mt. Carmel Road, Sparta, N.C., died Monday, January 24, 2000, in the Twin County Regional Medical Center in Galax, Va. He is survived by one daughter, Hilda P. Wagoner of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandchildren and spouses, Paula and Chip Miller of Wilkesboro, N.C., and Greg and Rita Wagoner of Piney Creek, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Lauren Wagoner of Piney Creek, and Gordon and Cullen Miller of Wilkesboro, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Cole and Vella Parsons of Sparta; one sister, Luna Parsons Ammons of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Osborne Parsons. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Janury 27, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. LOCKEY Mrs. Betty Lyons Lockey, age 70, of 5932 Hwy. 18 North, Sparta, N.C., died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at her home. She is survived by one son, Bishop Wayne Lockey of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Althea Patterson of Granit Falls, N.C.; one sister, Mildred Holbrook of Notasulga, Alabama; seven grandchildren; two step-daughters, Brenda Grant and Glenda Presley; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Lockey of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. SIDDEN Ruby Mary Sidden, age 67, of 528 North Main St. Sparta, N.C.,died Saturday evening, January 22, 2000, at her home. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Steve Gentry of Hays, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harrol and Velma Blevins of Independence, Va., and Johnnie and Debbie Blevins of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; two brothers, Clifton and Oliver Sidden of Sparta; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Laurel Glen Cemetery. BLEVINS Mr. Don Wayne Blevins, age 62, of 105 Cobblestone Court, Anderson, S.C., died Saturday, January 22, 2000, in the Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, S.C. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Mills Blevins of the home; two sons, Stephen Blevins and Scott Blevins, both of High Point, N.C.; two step-sons, Rev. Jack Newton of Louisville, Ky., and Jimmy Newton of Anderson, S.C.; two brothers, Clay Blevins of Trinity, N.C., and Walter Blevins of High Point, N.C; two sisters, Betty Sykes of Asheboro, N.C., and Lillie Glasco of Sparta; one grandchild; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, with Burial in the Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. REDD Mr. Timothy Gerald Redd, age 32, of 411 McKee Rd., Manitee, Michigan, and formely of Alleghany County, died Thursday, January 20, 2000, at the Spectrum Health Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca B. Redd of the home; three daughters, Artisha, Ashley and Latasha Redd, all of the home; his father and step-mother, Stanley and Angela Redd of Sparta; one brother, Rodney Redd of Sparta, and one half-brother, Stanley Justin Redd, Jr., of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, and at other times at the home of Stanley and Angela Redd, 725 New Haven Rd., Sparta.
CURTIS Mrs. Eleanor Maxwell Curtis, age 88, of Harrisonburg, Va., died Thursday morning, January 20, 2000, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Metro Lazorack. She was the widow of J.L. Curtis. Besides her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nick and Patsy Curtis of Lenoir, N.C., and Eric Curtis of Patterson, N.C.; three grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Johnson; and a half-sister, Shirley Humbert of Piney Creek, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
NICHOLS Mrs. Lillie Mae Billings Nichols, age 72, of 196 Atwood St., Sparta, N.C., died Monday evening, January 17, 2000, at the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. She is survived by her husband, Paul Nichols of the home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dean Nichols of New York City, Don and Kim Nichols of Sparta, Steve Nichols of Savannah, Ga., and Kenneth and Dawn Nichols of Sparta; three granddaughters, Mandy and spouse Robbie Pollard, Kristi Nichols and Sarah Nichols all of Sparta; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Nichols Family Cemetery. MURRAY Mrs. Mattie Murray, age 87, of 402 Maple St., Sparta, N.C., died Sunday morning, January 16, 2000, at the Marion County Health Center in Mullins, South Carolina. She was the widow of Robert C. Murray. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Mary Murray of Marion, South Carolina. Three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Shiloh Cemetery. HARRIS Mr. Ben Harris, age 71, of 2418 Grandview Dr., Sparta, N.C., died Thursday evening, January 13, 2000, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Lyons Harris of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Johnny Killon of Ennice, N.C., and Ellen and Kevin Bennett of Sparta; three grandchildren, Amanda and Rebecca Killon and Michael Bennett; one sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Ray Wagoner of Sparta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Neal and Arlena Harris George and Elsie Harris, both of Sparta; several nieces and nephews. LUCAS Virginia Bledsoe Lucas, age 88, of Jonesborough, Tenn., died on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on December 25, 1911 in Wilkesboro, N.C. to William J. and Eulala B. Johnson. She was a member of DAR and attended Women's College of Greensboro. She taught piano at Oak Hill Academy, Glade Valley School, and Independence High School. She was preceded in death by husbands Duke Colvard Bledsoe Sr. and Johnny Lucas of Sparta, and brothers Walter P. Johnson of Sparta, and Bill Johnson of North Wilkesboro. She is survived by two sons, Byron Bledsoe of Marietta, Georgia, and Baxter Bledsoe of Jonesborough, Tenn; a stepson, Duke Bledsoe Jr. of Sparta; a step-daughter, Jane Davidson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Violet Horton of Johnson City, Tenn. and Vivian Bollin of Sparta; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta, Dr. Jim Pollard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.
CROUSE Mr. Robert Harold Crouse, age 55, of Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday morning, January 11, 2000 in the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, N.C., He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Marshell and Sandy Crouse of New London, N.C., and Matthew Crouse of Sparta; two granddaughters, Madison Leigh Crouse and Kathryn Ann Poplin; one brother, Guy Crouse of Laurel Springs, N.C.; and two sisters, Alice Greene of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Margo Marsh of Galax, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruth Hincher Crouse. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. A graveside service will be conducted Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Glade Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Margaret Bowles, 47 Center St., Sparta, N.C.
KILLON Mr. John Mack Killon, age 72, of 6520 Glade Creek Rd., Ennice, N.C., died Monday, January 10, 2000, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mullins Killon of the home; a sister, Eulalie Delp of Bel Air, Md.; one brother, Dean Killon of Bel Air, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Killon, and a sister, Jean Watson. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home Chapel in Delta, Pa., with Burial in the Union Chapel Cemetery, Sunnyburn, York County, Pa. The family will receive friends at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening and at the Harkins Funeral Home in Delta, Pa., from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Alleghany County Rescue Squad. Due to the services being held in Pennsylvania, the family also request that no food be brought to the home.
BUTLER Mr. Nicholas Murray Butler, age 60, of Crestview Apartments, A-1, Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday, January 4, 2000, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stanford of Wilmington, N.C.; three daughters, Erin Davis, Susanna Guthrie and Angie Roberts; his mother, Dorothy Davis Butler of Independence, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Emil Seymour, Jr. and Janie Butler of Independence, Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Jewell and Jerry Kennington of Duluth, Ga.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 6, 2000, at 8:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, January 7, 2000, at 3:00 p.m. at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, NC.
