JOHNSON Mrs. Maude Eggers Johnson, age 83, of 975 Old Barrett Rd., Ennice, N.C., died Monday evening, February 28, 2000, at the Sunbridge Health Care Center in Sparta, N.C. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Johnson of the home; four daughters, Ella Billings, Brenda Cochran and Juanita Combs all of Sparta, and Patsy Daniel of Eden, N.C.; three sons, Michael David and Omar Johnson both of Ennice, and Walter Lee Johnson of Sparta, one sister, Sophia Harmon of Sugar Grove, N.C., 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thusday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Scottville Baptist Church with Burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta and at other times at the home of a daughter, Juanita Combs, 610 Collins Rd., Sparta.
COVELL Mrs. Josephine Ackerman Covell, age 88 of 1618 Fletcher St., Wilkesboro, N.C., died Sunday morning, February 27, 2000, in the Britthaven Nursing Center in Wilkesboro, N.C. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Kenneth Wooten of Glade Valley, N.C.; one grandson, Richard Bell of Glade Valley; one granddaughter, Cindy Wood of Boonville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Candace, Brittany and Justin Bell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Akiko Kawagoye of Boonville, N.C.; and three sisters, Patty Parker of Denver, Co., Dorsey Holden of Tampa, Fla., and June Corl of Wilkesboro, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Covell; her parents, Edward and Grace Verley Ackerman; four brothers, Grant, Cecil, Rollo and Ed Ackerman; and one sister, Grace Brown. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Rich Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. BROWN Mrs. Donna Hash Brown, age 94, of 3591 Hwy. 93, Sparta, N.C., died Thursday, February 24, 2000, in Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Fred Brown. She is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law, Dorothy Mabe of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sue and Phillip Caldwell of Boomer, N.C., Evelyn and Charles Earp of Sparta, N.C., Donna Chapman of Flagstaff, Az. and Linda and Joe Hornung of Sparta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Irene Brown, Jim and Lois Brown all of Sparta, Joe and Janet Brown of Independence, Va.; one brother, Wayne Hash of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Nina Reeves of Sparta, N.C., and Ruby Halsey of Piney Creek, N.C.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. PRESNELL Mr. John Rufus Presnell, age 77, of 406 Presnell Road, Sparta, N.C., died Wednesday morning, Februry 23, 2000, in the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winson-Salem, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Rominger Presnell of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Stewart McMeans of Jonesville, N.C.; Judy and James Miles of Glade Valley, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Susan Presnell of Sparta; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Press and Olevia Wagoner Irwin; a son, Buddy Joe Wagoner; and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eugenia Hall Tolliver of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Gaye Tolliver of Ennice; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Lillie Kirby and Reva Boyer both of Mt. Airy, N.C., and Emma Lou Parison of Elkton, Md. Brinegar of the home; two daughters, Cindy Brinegar of Fayetteville, NC and Beth Brinegar of Sparta; two sons, Joe Brinegar of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Robert Brinegar of Mt.
