ANDREWS Mr. James Billy (J.B.) Andrews, age 70, of Richmond, Virginia, formely of Alleghany County, died Thursday morning, November 30, 2000, at his home. He is survived by his mother: Bert Andrews of Sparta, NC; three daughters and a son-in-law: Barbara Cundiff of Elkin, NC, Susie and Danny Stefurak of Richmond, Va. and Michelle Bass of Richmond, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy and Pat Andrews, Vernon and Terri Andrews all of Richmond, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Martin and Pat Andrews of State Road, NC; a special niece, Diane Andrews Moxley of Sparta, NC; and five other nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Buren Andrews, his wife, Vergie Andrews and a brother, Frank Andrews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 3, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home Mechanicsville Chapel in Richmond, Va. with Burial to follow in the Gethesemane Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Bennett Funeral Home Mechanicsville Chapel, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Richmond, Va. Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
MALPASS Mrs. Dixie Howard Malpass, age 87, of Currie, NC, died Monday, November 27, 2000, at her daughter's residence in Sparta, NC. She was born February 13, 1913, in Robeson County and was the daughter of the late William Henry Howard, Sr. and Bessie Pearl Allen Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph C. Malpass. Mrs. Malpass was a member of the Riley's Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her children: Rudolph H. Malpass of Enterprise, Alabama, Elizabeth M. Moore of Jacksonville, Florida, Eugene C. Malpass of Currie, NC and Dorothy M. Verzaal of Sparta, NC; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth Moody, Julia Ann Morris and Elsie Livingston; and one brother: George Howard. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, November 30, 2000, at 2:00 PM, at the Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Chapel in Burgaw, NC with the Rev. Blake Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Malpass Family Cemetery in Currie, NC. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, November 29, 2000, from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, NC.
BRINEGAR Mr. Charles Hobert Brinegar, age 73 of 146 Nile Rd., Sparta, N.C. died Thursday morning at his home. Mr. Brinegar retired from truck driving and moved to Alleghany County in 1989. He was a life time member of the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post # 7034. He served in the Army/Air Force from 1944 to 1951. He is survived by his wife: Lura Horton Brinegar of the home; one son: Charles Cullum Brinegar of Aberdeen; one adopted daughter: Cynthia Rogers, Coshan, Indiana; two adopted sons: John Robert Devonshire of Galax, Va., and Steven C. Devonshire, U.S. Navy, Nolfolk, Va.; six foster daughters: Karen McDowell and Robin Simpers, both of Rising Sun, Md., Tracy Tobitt, Altus, Oka., Tammy Radke, Bel Air, Md., Carolina Noonan, Ellicott City, Md., Margie Dunlap, North East, Md., one brother: Lee Roy Brinegar of Sparta; one sister: Mandy Bauguess of Sparta; one half-sister: Lorene Jarrell of Tylorsville, N.C.; seven half-brothers: Talmadge Billings of Street, Md., Don Billings, Port Deposit, Md., Hort Billings, Bel Air, Md. Paul Billings, Forrest Hill, Md., Steary Billings, Bel Air, Md., Woodrow Billings and Danny Billings, both of Street, Md.; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta from 1 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday. A military Graveside service will follow at the Whitehead -Joines Cemetery, by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW post # 7034. HAMM Mrs. Lena Phillips Hamm, age 90, of 498 Macedonia Church Road, Sparta, NC, died Tuesday morning, November 14, 2000, in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, NC. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Grady and Reba Hamm, Eld. Gwyn and Kay Hamm all of Sparta, NC, and Gary and Linda Hamm of Roaring River, NC; one daughter and son-in-law: Norma Gaye and Edward Jones of Granite Falls, NC; one brother and sister-in-law: Emmitt and Beulah Phillips of West Jefferson, NC; 3 granddaughters; 7 grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, November 16, 2000, at 11:00 AM at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial to follow in the Stevens Memorial Methodist Church Cemetery in Ashe County. Elder Don Richardson will officiate. EVANS Mrs. Oda Roberts Evans, age 81, of 4219 Lake Ridge Farm Road, Franklinville, NC, died Monday, November 6, 2000, in the Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC. She is survived by one son: Robert Evans of Franklinville, NC; one daughter: Mary Wagner of Liberty, NC; one brother: Clay Roberts of Sparta, NC; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, November 9, 2000, at 11:00 AM at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, NC. Burial will follow in the Laurel Glen Cemetery. DAVISON Alma Doris B. Davison, age 70, of 8624 New Grass Lane, Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, November 5, 2000, at her home. She was the widow of Lewis Davison. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Libby and Jimmy Presnell of Sparta, NC; two sons: Jimmy Simpson and friend Betty of Charlotte, N.C., and Roby and spouse Ann Simpson of Jefferson, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Irene Pugh of Piney Creek and Grace Sessions of Port Arthur, Texas; and three Brothers: Jerry Blevins and Porter Blevins, both of Sparta, and Tim Blevins of Laurel Springs, N.C. She was preceded in death by a brother, Henson Blevins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, November 8, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services to lie in state. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, November 7, 2000, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta and at other times at the home of a daughter and son-in-law; Libby and Jimmy Presnell, 119 Dew Drop Road, Sparta, NC.
PRUITT Harvey George Pruitt, age 71, of Laurel Springs, NC died Friday, December 29, 2000, at the Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. Mr. Pruitt was born in Logan, West Virginia on December 5, 1929 to Eugene Carson and Fannie Carver Pruitt. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 31, 2000, at 3:00 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dana Hines and Rev. Lonnie Pruitt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Transou United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 31, 2000, from 1:00 till 3:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home. HALL Mrs. Nannie Andrews Hall, age 78, of 392 River Hill Road, Sparta, NC, died Monday, December 25, 2000, in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, NC. She is survived by one daughter: Nancy Ialeen Hall of the home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Hobert Dowell will officiate. Nancy has requested that no food be brought to the home. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the Funeral Arrangements.
HUDSON Mr. Charles Dean Hudson, age 62, of 4569 Hwy. 18 North, Sparta, NC, died Friday evening, December 22, at his home. He is survived by his wife: Mabel Wingler Hudson of the home; one son: Chuck Hudson of the home; his mother: Tressie Blevins Hudson of Ennice, N.C.; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Lois and Clinton McGrady of Sparta, Shirley and Leon Hiatt of Mt. Airy, NC Carol and Robert UpChurch of Sparta; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill and Colene Hudson of Ennice, and Robert and Mary Alice Hudson of Sparta; his mother-in-law: Blanche Wingler of Scottville, N.C.Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon December 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Church of the Brethren at Scottville. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. Military Rites will be conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW post # 7034. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
