ANDERSON Mrs. Dorothy Boone Anderson, age 81, of 8632 US Highway 21 S, Glade Valley, NC, died Monday Morning, July 30th, in the Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville, NC. She was the widow of Kelly Anderson. She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Celia McCormick of Pilot Mtn., NC; four sons and two daughters-in-law: James Kenneth and Brenda Anderson of Hayden, Ala., Mack Anderson of Birmingham, Ala., John C. Anderson of Jonesville, NC and Joseph D. and Penny Anderson of Elkin, NC; and two sisters: Ida Bryant of Independence, Va. and Nancy Chamberlin of Naples, Fla. Nine grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Mazie Clarise Anderson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with a private committal service on Thursday at the Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. MAXWELL Mrs. Kathleen Anderson Maxwell, age 84, of 1164 U.S. Hwy 21 N., Sparta, NC, died Monday morning, July 30th at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Welter Ray Maxwell. She was born in the Piney Creek community of Alleghany County on April 17, 1917 to Oscar Anderson and Mary Billings Anderson. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Alleghany school system for 41 years. She started in a one room school in the Turkey Knob community. Mrs. Maxwell attended Piney Creek High School from 1929-1933. She attended Appalachian State Teachers College in 1938 and received a BS in English and French and also received a MA in 1954 in English and education. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators, National Education Association, North Carolina Retired School Personnel, Alleghany Unit of Retired School Personnel, District North Carolina School Personnel, Order of the Eastern Star -- Past Matron of Alleghany Chapter # 273 -- American Association of University Women, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed walking, reading, writing, crafts, tutoring French, reading poetry to groups, assisting writers of poetry and reading Dissertations. "Mountain Echoes," her book of poetry was published in 1973. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Vicki Maxwell of Sparta; and a step-grandson: Andrew Gibbons of Greensboro, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Piney Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. Elder Earl Baker will officiate.
