CAUDILL Mr. Ernest Odell Caudill, age 65, a resident of New River Country Care in Sparta, NC, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at New River Country Care. He is survived by four aunts: Mrs. Clema Frances Caudle of Sparta, NC, Mrs. Alma Jane Caudill of Advance, NC, Mrs. Eula Mae Parris of Dallas, NC and Mrs. Bertie Ruth Sparks of Traphill, NC. several cousins also survive. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at 2:00 PM at the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery near Roaring Gap, NC with the Rev. Everett Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.

FAW Mrs. Kathy Edwards Faw, age 47, of 541 Dewitt Road, Glade Valley, NC, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at her home. She is survived by her husband: Steve Faw of the home; her parents: Ernest and Georgie Edwards of Sparta, NC and one sister: Gail Hendrix of Hendersonville, NC. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 3, 1999, at 2:00 PM at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. James T. Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, NC. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Alleghany, P.O. Box 1287, Sparta, NC 28675 or to the American Cancer Society, C/O Janet McKnight, 2511 Mtn. GLASCO Mr. James Isom (Bob) Glasco, age 74, of Ennice, NC, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Morganton, NC. He is survived by two daughters: Sue Lovelace of Millington, Tenn. and Glenda Purvis of Baxley, Ga.; One son: Dennis Glasco of Moravian Falls, NC; Six grandchildren and one great-grandson; Five sisters: Virginia Harless, Marie Glasco, Loyce Tompkins and Joyce Higgins, all of Ennice, NC and Nellie Starnes of Hiddenite, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, June 3, 1999, at 11:00 AM at the Savannah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church Wednesday afternoon where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Savannah Methodist Church, C/O Eugenia Tolliver, 589 Old Barrett Road, Ennice, NC 28623 or to the American Cancer Society, C/O Janet McKnight, 2511 Mtn. CROUSE Mrs. Victoria Harrald Crouse, age 79, of 164 Glade Creek Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Saturday, May 29, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Jesse Ray Crouse. She is survived by six daughters, Ina Grace Royal, Pauline Williams and Mary Alice Brown, all of Glade Valley, N.C., Sandra Kay Tomlin of Wilkesboro, N.C., Annette Brown of Pilot Mtn., N.C., and Martha Victoria Crouse of Sparta, N.C.; seven sons, John Ray Crouse, Donald Crouse and Ronald Bruce Crouse, all of Glade Valley, N.C., Dennis Gene Crouse and Jesse Kevin Crouse, both of Ennice, N.C., Issac Lynn Crouse of Sparta, N.C., and Avery Patterson Crouse of Damascus, Va.; 41 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren; two step-sisters, Mary Jane Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Annie Brewer of Indiana; four sisters-in-law; Fran River, Hazel Wooten and Mary Ring, all of Glade Valley, N.C., and Faye Eller of Aberdeen, Md. Funeral services will be conducted Tueaday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Burial in the Woodruff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, and at other times at the home at 164 Glade Creek Rd., Sparta, N.C. In Lieu of flowes, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Woodruff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Roger Williams, 236 Shawtown Rd., Glade Valley, N.C., 28627.

EDWARDS Mrs. Bernice Jarvis Edwards, age 70, of 3207 Tremont Ave., Cheverly, Md., died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at her home. She is survived by her husband: Carroll D. Edwards of the home; one daughter: Linda Bilo of Tracys Landing, Md.; two grandchildren: Edward Carroll Bilo and Eva Marie Bilo both of Tracys Landing, Md.; one sister: Hazel Joines of Brentwood, Maryland; and one brother: Elmer Jarvis of Sugar Grove, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1 to 2 PM at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. FORTNER Mrs. Betty Caudill Fortner, age 85, of 119 Cahn Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday, May 25, at her home. She was the widow of Glen Fortner. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Orf of Bel Air, Md., Peggy and Jeff Bradley of Sparta, N.C., and Ruby Dawson of Sparta, N.C.; three sisters, Margie Sexton of Galax, Va., Violet Caudill of Churchville, Md., and Edna Anderson of Bel Air, Md.; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survives. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Primitive Baptist Church with Burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to the funeral service to lie-in-state. MILLER Mr. Jacob (Jake) Miller, age 82, of 403 Mtn. Valley Rd., Laurel Springs, NC, died Monday, May 24, in the Sunrise Health Care in Sparta, NC. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Taylor Miller of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law: Stanley and Thelma Miller of West Jefferson, NC, Tony and Grace Miller, Jimmy and Amanda Miller all of Laurel Springs, NC; six grandchildren; two sisters: Dare Rinegar of Boone, NC and Elizabeth Marsh of Aberdeen, Md.; and two brothers: Fletcher Miller of Laurel Springs, NC, and Ford K. Miller of Statesville, NC. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel, with Burial in the Cranberry Cemetery. JOHNSON Mrs. Maggie Osborne Johnson, age 85, of 77 Maple St., Sparta, N.C., died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Straley Johnson. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Bobbie and Edward Petty of Sparta, and Linda Lane of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Thelma and Earl Davis and Virginia Setzer, all of Sparta, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, May 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the Osborne Memorial Baptist Church, with Burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to funeral services to lie-in-state. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, and at other times at the home place, 77 Maple St. Sparta. MAINES Mrs. Dixie Hodge Maines, age 84, of 128 Miles Street, Sparta , N.C. died Saturday morning , May 22, 1999, in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Elder Talmage Maines. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in law, Harrison and Judi Maines and Jackie Maines, all of Sparta N.C.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Margaret and Irvin Hughes, Martinsville, Va., Bobbie and Gary Parlier, Edna Maines, Linda and Wayne Todd, all of Sparta, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceeded in death by a son, Lewis Maines. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M. Sunday at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta and at other times at the home at 128 Miles Street in Sparta.

DELP Mr. Jimmy Clay Delp, age 55, of 385 Stratford Rd., Sparta, N.C. died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at his home. He is survived by two sons, James and Michael Delp of Sparta; one granddaughter, Victoria Delp of Sparta; his father, Charlie Delp of Sparta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Clifford Rector and Linda Huff of Sparta, N.C.; and one brother, Joe Allen Delp of Sparta. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Lissie Brown Delp. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Burial in the Piney Creek Methodist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post # 7034. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. CALLOWAY Mrs. Etta Lou Brooks Calloway, age 93, died Friday, May 14, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton, Va. She was formerly a resident of Pine Swamp Community of Sparta, NC before making her home in Norton. She was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Whitehead , NC. She was preceded in death by husbands Alvin C. Edwards and Charles C. Calloway, and granddaughter Mrs. Clifford (Phyllis Ann) Shell. Surviving: daughter: Mrs. Howard (Velma Edwards) Callaway, Norton, Va.; granddaughters: Mrs. Tim (Rosa) Carpenter, Fredricksburg, Va., Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Brummitte, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Jeanne Callaway, Norton, Va.; six great grandchildren; sister: Margie Holloway, Waynesboro, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday, May 16, 1999 at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Burial in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.

GALYEAN Mrs. Evelyn McCullouch Galyean, age 89, of 5804 Delhart Rd., Galax, Va., died Monday morning, May 10, 1999, at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Della and Kyle Whitaker, and Lavon and Roy Montgomery, all of Galax, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. HAWKS Mrs. Marie Roberts Medley Hawks, age 79, of 13014 Hwy. 18 N., Ennice, N.C., died Friday Morning, May 7, 1999, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Bill Johnson of Sparta, N.C.; two sons, Dwayne Medley of Ennice, N.C., and Junior Medley of Greensboro, N.C.; one step-daughter and spouse, Betty Ruth and Kyle Murray of Ennice, N.C.; one step-son, Robert Edgar Hawks of Mt. Airy, N.C.; one sister, Mable Caudill Funk of Galax, Va.; two special family friends, Helen Moxley and Grace Cole; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren; and thirteen step-great-grandchildren. Bell of the home; two daughters, Judy Billings of Sparta, and Sue Strate of West Point, Utah; three brothers, Wilborn Goodman of Sparta, Clyde Ray Goodman of Florida, and Millard Alexander Goodman of Drexel, N.C.; and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, May 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sparta, with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. The family would appreciate no food or visitors at the home.
