ROARK Mr. Robert Lee Roark, age 69, of 776 Hoppers Dairy Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Friday, January 25, 2002, at his home. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and David Lyons of Traphill, N.C., Joyce and Mark Rachels and Pam and Luther Spurlin, all of Ennice, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Victoria Roark of Fleetwood, N.C.; three sisters, Dot Hopkins of West Jefferson, N.C., Blanche Roark of Jefferson, N.C., and Wilma Tolsm of High Point, N.C.; five brothers, Luke Roark of Hickory, N.C., Clay Roark of Creston, N.C., Quince and Jack Roark of High Point, N.C., and Junior Roark of Hickory, N.C.; five grandchildren; three, step-god-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 28, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Roark Family Cemetery in Ashe County. YOUNG Mr. Rex Dwain Young, age 65, of 1357 Osborne Memorial Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Kit Young; two daughters, Shelia Hampton of Wisconsin and Susan Young of Sparta; two very special step-daughters, Teresa Blevins of West Jefferson and Karen Catron of Independence, Va.; two grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron Hampton; five very special step-grandchildren, Angel Gouge, Mickie McClure, Lyndsi Stephens, Christopher Cantron and Amber Cantron; four great-grandchildren, Caitlin Elliott, Noah Gouge, Joshua and Jada McClure; two brothers, Ted Young of Delaware and Ben Young of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and a very special caregiver, Sarah Testerman. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 24, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. FULCHER Mrs. Ruby Dell Edwards Fulcher, age 70, of 128 Greenridge Ln., Ennice, N.C., died Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of James Jefferson Fulcher. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Annie Edwads of Low Gap, N.C.; two grandchildren, Timmy and spouse Natasha Edwards of Sparta, N.C. and Jimmy Edwards of Martinsville, Va.; four brothers, Junior Edwards of Walnut Cove, N.C., Raymond Edwards of Jonesville, N.C., Gordon Edwards of Zepher, N.C., and Larry Edwards of Wilkesboro, N.C.; and three sisters, Verilla Mae Hargrove, Macon, Ga., Helen Smith, Macon, Ga., and Mary Lee Rice of Michigan. A graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Glade Creek Union Baptist Church Cemetery. JONES Mrs. Ramah Leah Joines Jones, age 74, of 944 Spicer Mountain Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Odell Jones. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patricia Jones of Sparta; and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Karla Jones of Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Ercell Wooten Miller of the Home; a daughter, Debbie Johnson of Boonville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Dillow of Boonville, N.C.; and one brother, Jack Miller of State Road, N.C. WILLIAMS Mrs. Faye Largen Williams, age 66, of 43 Absher Lane, Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday morning, January 15, 2002, at the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, N.C. She is survived by her husband, Roscoe Williams, Jr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Whitaker Cline and Mark Cline of Christiansburg, Va.; two granddaughters, Rachel and Emily Cline; two sisters, Lou Gambill and Betty Clifton, both of Galax, Va.; two step-sons, Jerry Burton Williams of Bel Air, Md., and Roscoe Williams III of Aberdeen, Md.; one step-granddaughter, Crystal Williams; a sister-in-law, Glorine Largen of Roanoke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church with Burial in the church cemetey. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. SPEARS Mr. Donald Carl Spears, age 52, very beloved husband and father of 13075 NC Hwy. 18 N., Ennice, N.C., died Sunday, January 13th. At the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Newman Spears of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Glenn Redmond of Wilmington, N.C.; his father, Homer Spears of Ennice, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Judy Spears of Merritt Island, Fla., and Dale and Donna Spears of Ennice, N.C.; a surrogate daughter, Rebecca Brannock of Galax, Va.; surrogate grandchildren, Bubbles, Trixie and George; and a father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. N.A. Newman of Woodlawn, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Savannah United Methodist Church with Burial in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. MILLER William Reece Miller, Jr. better known as Will, of 388 N.C. Hwy 113, Laurel Springs, N.C., died Saturday evening, January 12, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He is survived by two sisters, Teresa DeVane of Charleston, S.C. and Mary Payne of West Jefferson, N.C.; three brothers: John H. Miller of Sparta, Dr. Gordon P. Miller of Wilkesboro, N.C., and David Miller of Laurel Springs; his extended family, Rocky Proffit of Charlotte, N.C., Rick Proffit of Laurel Springs, and Brady Proffit and Rita Wagoner, both of Sparta; and a special substitute mother, Nina Eller of Laurel Springs, N.C. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Monday at the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral Home. However, the family will gather at the home place at 388 N.C. Hwy. 113 in Laurel Springs. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Richardson Hudson of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janelle Hudson of the home, and Patsy and Edward Sanchez of Kernersville, N.C.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Lynda Hudson of Ennice, N.C., Johnny and Nancy Hudson of Ennice, N.C., Frankie and Joannie Hudson of Radford, Va., and Sonny and Carolyn Hudson of Ennice, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Tim Hudson, Rhonda Holmes, Daniel Hudson, Kimberly Hines, Stacey Lambert, Jamie Lambert and Jason Hudson; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Cort and Troy Hudson, and Sebastian Lambert; and one brother, Fred Hudson of Ennice, N.C. FENDER Mr. Elmer Allen Fender, age 85, of 427 Shawtown Rd., Glade Valley, N.C., died Friday afternoon, January 11, 2002, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He is survived by one son: Johnny Fender of Glade Valley, N.C.; two brothers: Jesse Fender of Joppa, Md., and Lewis Fender of Fries, Va.; and four sisters: Grace Fender of Sparta, N.C., Clyde Edwards of Ennice, N.C., Cora Lee Cobbler of Kernersville, N.C., and Betty Burcham, of Fries, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, January 14th., at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Glade Creek Union Baptist Church Cemetery. SPARKS Mrs. Bessie Toliver Sparks, age 87, of Sunbridge of Alleghany, died Friday Morning, January 11, 2002, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by her husband, Robert Sparks of Sparta; one brother, Raymond Toliver of Sparta; and three sisters, Mildred Osborne of Davie, Fla, Bernice Black of Bel Air, Md. And Avis Gross of Fayettville, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. ROSE Mrs. Cleo Church Rose, age 91, of Churchville, Maryland and formerly of Alleghany County, died Monday, January 7th. in Maryland. She was the widow of Roy Rose. She is survived by four daughters, Madeline M. Blackburn of Churchville, Md., Imogene R. Mahan of Aberdeen, Md., Doris L. Jennings of Churchville, Md., and Linda C. Pruitt of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons; Thomas Allen Rose of Sparta, John Everett Rose of Laurel Springs, N.C., and Roger Lee Rose of Boomer, N.C.; and two sisters, Mildred Roupe and Rose Lee Dolinger, both of Sparta. Ten Grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, Burial will follow in the Double Springs Cemetery at Laurel Springs. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
BROOKS Mr. Roy Lee Brooks, age 79, of Fredricksburg, Va., and formerly of Alleghany County, died Wednesday, January 2nd, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Caudill Brooks of the home; a son, Rocky Brooks of Caroline County, Va.; a daughter, Robin Thomas of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Bobby Brooks of Bowling Greene, Va.; six sisters: Mable McKnight of Glade Valley, NC., Elsie Moore of Murfreesboro, Tn., Louise Smith of Glade Valley, NC, Ruby Himmer of Abingdon, Md., Ruth Mitchell of Havre De Grace, Md., and Ellen Brooks of Glade Valley, NC. Six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. SPARKS Mr. John Lee Sparks, age 86, of Sunbridge Health Care of Sparta, died Friday evening, January 4th. At the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Sparks Sidden, Tressa Mae Sparks Edwards, and Hazel Sparks Diamond; and three brothers, Dewey Sparks, James Sparks and Elmer Ray Sparks. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. However, the family will gather at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laurine and Eldon Edwards, and Jean Osborne, all of Sparta, and Pat and Doug Taylor of Lewisville, N.C.; two sons, Dennis Reeves of Bethlehem, N.C., and Eddie Reeves of Boonville, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cleo and Faye Reeves of Sparta, and Franklin Dale and Ellen Reeves of Centerville, Tennessee; three sisters, Clydie Adams of Maysville, N.C., Marie Norris of Darlington, Md., and Ann Rosser of West Palm Beach, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel, with Burial in the Reeves Family Cemetery in the Twin Oaks Community.
