DELP Mr. Charlie Oscar Delp, age 85, of 179 Combs St., Sparta, NC, died Tuesday morning, February 26, 2002, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lissie Delp; and a son, Jimmy Delp. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Clifton Rector, and Linda and Bill Huff, all of Sparta; a son, Joe Allen Delp, of Sparta; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. BROOKS Mrs. Blanche Royal Brooks, 92, of 179 Combs St., Sparta, NC, died Thursday morning, February 21, 2001, at Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center of Alleghany in Sparta. She was the widow of Curtis Brooks. She was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin and Reeves Brooks; two grandchildren, Kim Brooks and Jennifer Bridges; and sisters, Bonnie Goodman and Beatrice Baugus. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Carico Blevins of the home; three daughters, Sarah Childress of the home, Drema Blevins of Whitetop, Va., and Audry Blevins of Ennice, N.C.; two sons, Billy Childress of the home and Jason Blevins of Whitetop, Va.; his mother, Mae Finley Blevins of Whitetop, Va.; three brothers, Gerral Blevins, Steve Blevins, and Bob Blevins, all of Whitetop, Va.; six sisters, Kathy Blevins of Lansing, Linda Mullins and Irene Murphy, both of Ennice, N.C, Jean Alderman of Piney Creek, Joyce Smith of Mouth of Wilson, Va., and Lois Davis of Independence, Va.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. LINCOLN Colonel Brian Jerome "Jack" Lincoln, age 77, of Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and Sparta, N.C., died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at his summer residence in Sparta. Jack was born in Pepestone, Minnesota, July 26, 1924. He courageously served this country for more than 30 years as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force having flown a hundred missions in Korea and a hundred missions in Viet Nam. He retired March 29, 1973. He and Dolly made their home in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands for more than 20 years, and their summer residence in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Patrick Lincoln; two daughters, Amber Lincoln of Cumming, Georgia, and Carlene Chichester of Coleville, California; one brother; and five sisters A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2002, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, Georgia, with full Military honors. SMITH Martha Joan Smith, age 67, of Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie, Advance, N.C., died Monday morning, February 11, 2002, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Tony Davis of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a niece, Stephanie Davis Gardner of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a nephew, Brian Davis of Winston-Salem, N.C. INGRAM Hollis Ingram, age 73, of 137 Grandview Drive, died Monday, January 28, 2002 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 5, 1928, and faithfully served his country in the US Navy until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Susan Ingram of the home; a very special daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Michael Laney of Lancaster, SC; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Heather Laney. THOMPSON Lillie Mae Todd Thompson, 67, of King, NC, and the former wife of Dan Thompson of East Bend, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Thompson was retired from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where she worked for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Theresa Rau of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Shannon Mize of Kernersville, and Trinity Shane Fowler of Winston-Salem; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Todd Thompson. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. BLEVINS Mr. Wayne Monroe Blevins, age 86, of 8560 Hwy. 21S., Glade Valley, N.C., died Sunday morning, Februry 3, 2002, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Dean Blevins. Mr. Blevins was born March 17, 1915 to Quincy and Emma Combs Blevins. He and his father started what is now Blevins Building Supply in 1946. They began as building contractors, and out of a need for supplies, windows and cabinets, Blevins Workshop was established. As time passed they became more involved in building supplies. Mr. Blevins was later joined by his two sons, Bill and Carl Dean. There are now three stores located at Glade Valley, Galax, Va., and the latest on N. Main Street in Sparta, currently managed by his grandson, Billy. He is survived by his wife, Reba Edwards Blevins of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Peggy Blevins of Sparta; six grandchildren and spouses, Billy and Stephanie Blevins of Glade Valley, N.C., Karena and Mike Caudill, Tammy and Buddy Marion of Sparta, Deana and Tim DeBord of Glade Valley, Daryl and Ronda Blevins of Sparta and Nicole Blevins of Glade Valley, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Glenna Atwood of Glade Valley. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, near his home. HIGGINS Mrs. Virgie Ella Boone Higgins, age 93, of 8368 N.C. Hwy. 18 N., Ennice, N.C., died Saturday morning, February 2, 2002 at the Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, Va. She was the widow of Bruce T. Higgins. She is survived by two daughters: Ella Rose Hincher and Betty Smith, both of Ennice, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law: George J. and Murley Higgins, and Dale and Carol Higgins, all of Galax, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law: Marvin and Ruth Boone of Galax, Va.; one brother-in-law: Horace Gordon of Galax, Va.; eighteen grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church in Galax, Va., with Burial in the church cemetery.
