HASH Retha Pearl Hash, 63, of Winston-Salem and formerly of Alleghany County, died December 28, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Kennie Hash. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Laura Malloy, Anne Jean Harris, and Helen Hash and two brothers, Robert Franklin Hash, Jr., and John Horton Hash. She is survived by two daughters, Marcia W. Jeankins and Duretta (LaConte) Campbell of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Nikita C. Jenkins, Enrique (K.C.) Campbell, and Kristen E. Campbell, all of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Little of Rahway, N.J. and Louvenia Johnson of Wytheville, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, January 3, 2003 at, 1:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta, NC., with Burial in the White Plains Cemetery in the Twin Oaks Communtiy. PARDUE Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pardue, age 59, of 830 Pardue Rd., Sparta, NC, died Saturday, December 28, 2002, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She is survived by her husband, Harold Pardue of the home; a daughter, Amy Pardue of Johnson City, Tn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Marlene Pardue of Sparta; and a sister, Barbara Blankenship, of Sparta. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 31st., at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Varan Walker will officiate. WHITCOMB Mr. Lance Neil Whitcomb, age 51 of 52 Hibiscus Lane, Laurel Springs, NC, died Thursday morning, December 26, 2002, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Cole Whitcomb of the home; his mother, Emily Tripp of Jacksonville, NC.; two sisters, Teresa Weaver of Jacksonville, NC, and Denise Adona of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; two brothers, Michael Whitcomb of Wilmington, NC, and Dale Whitcomb of Jupiter, Fla; three step-sons, Tommy Junior Moxley and Billy Joe Moxley, both of Sparta, and Jeffrey William Moxley of Laurel Springs; and six step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, December 29th., at 3:00 p.m. at the Pine Fork Baptist Church, Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Dean Adams will officiate. SEVERT Mrs. Carrie Miller Severt, age 90, of 315 Jarvis Rd., Ennice, NC, died Thursday evening, December 26, 2002, at her residence. She was the widow of Edd Severt, and was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a granddaughter, a sister and two brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Jarvis of Ennice, Gladys Taylor of Youngsville, NC, and Mary Wagoner of Laurel Springs, NC; two sons, Wayne Severt of North Wilkesboro and Basil Severt of Raleigh; three sisters, Goldie Miller of West Jefferson, Pearl Barker of Lansing and Ada Polk of Mocksville, NC; four brothers, Shade Miller, John Miller, Jr., and Clint Miller all of West Jefferson, and Smith Miller of Burlington, NC. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28th., at the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Ashe County with Burial in the Mash Cemetery. Eld. Everett Blevins and Eld. MILES Mr. William E. (Bill) Miles, age 73 of Statesville, NC, and formerly of Alleghany County, died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He is survived by his wife, Jean Johnson Miles of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg E. Miles, James C. and Denise Miles, all of Statesville; a brother and sister-in-law, J. Tom and Shirley Miles of Glade Valley; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Peggy M. Dezern of Winston-Salem, Mary Lou and Walter Freize of Sparta, and Patsy and Jim Wyatt of Sparta. Two granddaughters also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Hoover Heffley of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Tamara Heffley of Idabel, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Oklahoma. She was the widow of Walter Andrews, and was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lora Crouse, and a brother and a sister. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Lyons of Glade Valley, NC, and Linda and Larry Crouse of Sparta; a son, Bob Andrews of Sparta; five granchildren, Dawn Carrier and husband Sid of Piney Creek, Kris Andrews and wife Scarlett of Rural Hall, Alicia Roberts and husband Brad of Sevierville, Tennessee, Brandon Crouse of Sparta, and Adam Lyons of Glade Valley; a great-grandson, Andrew Roberts of Sevierville, Tennessee; and two sisters, Romaine Hash of New Park, Pa., and Elaine Blondie Thompson of Whiteford, Maryland. THOMPSON Mrs. Edna Halsey Thompson, age 93 of 179 Combs St., Sparta, NC, died Sunday evening, December 22, 2002, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Dr. C.A. Thompson, and was preceded in death by a sister, Clyde Collins, and a granddaughter, Eadye Jane Laws. Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of John C. and Lelia McMillan Halsey of Piney Creek. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Laws of Sparta; a grandson and spouse, Dr. Allen and Linda Laws of Galax, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew and Jennifer Laws, all of Galax. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Don Temple of Piney Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Frances Pugh of Piney Creek; grandsons Brent and wife Jill Pugh of Piney Creek and Mac Temple of Hickory; granddaughters Tara and husband Brandon Hanson of Hickory and Shannon Pugh of Wilmington, NC; great-granddaughter Ally Hanson of Hickory; a sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Bill Sessions of Port Arthur, Texas; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tim and Geri Blevins of Piney Creek, and Porter and Jean Blevins of Sparta and Jerry Blevins of Piney Creek. CRITCHER Mrs. Racine Taylor Critcher, age 85 of 1000 New Hope Church Rd., Laurel Springs, NC, died Sunday evening, December 15, 2002, at the Kate B. Raynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the widow of James Claude Critcher. HEDGEPETH Myra Jane Hedgepeth, daughter of Elsie and James Hobbs of Ennice, NC, passed away suddenly on December 3, 2002. She was born June 27, 1959 in Davidson County. She was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. At the time of her death she was a resident of Lexington, NC and was an employee as a CNA with Preferred Alternatives Inc. She was much loved by many people. Other survivors include her father, Jim C. Hedgepeth of Thomasville, NC; one brother, Wyatt Hedgepeth of High Point, NC; two sisters, Pamela Lovell of Thomasville, and Shari Deitchman of Charlotte; and a grandmother, Effie Ingran of Trinity, NC. Myra was cremated and a private memorial service was held Sunday, December 15, 2002, at the home of Elsie and James Hobbs in Ennice.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Gray Daughenbaugh, and two sons, George Everette and Lowell Vern Daughenbaugh. He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Jean Hawks of Lowgap; two sons, Ronnie Dean Daughenbaugh of Sod, W.Va., and David Lee Daughenbaugh of Lowgap; four brothers, Ora Delbert Daughenbaugh of San Diego, Calif., Gene Daughenbaugh of Georgetown, Illinois, Ray Daughenbaugh of Flora, Illinois, and Gary Daughenbaugh of Burkeburnett, Texas; three sisters, Iva Garrison of Cisne, Illinois, Joan Baldridge of Littleton, Colorado and Kay Perry of Flora, Illinois; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Dancy of Lexington, NC, and Ruth and Ray Wooten of Sparta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Christine Dancy of Nashville, NC, Ricky and Jan Dancy of Sparta, and Billy and Janice Dancy of Laurel Springs, NC; one brother, Don Dancy of Winston-Salem, NC; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Combs Poole, and a son, Jimmy Poole. He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Robert Edwards, and Carol and Frank Morris, both of Galax, Va.; Betty and Lynn Woosley of Pfafftown, NC, and Linda and Bud Snow of Greensboro, NC; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bud and Brenda Poole, and Bill and Tiny Poole, all of Ennice, and Terry and Karen Poole of Woodlawn, Va.; two sisters, Lila Combs of Ennice, and Peggy Simon of Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
