She was preceded in death by her parents, Hunter Howard and Cora Crawford Lamb; a sister, Kathleen Young; a brother, Richard Lamb; and a son-in-law, Jack Watson. RASH Mr. Sherman Rash, age 88, of 419 Rash Rd., Glade Valley, NC., died Monday morning, April 21, 2003, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leava Crouse Rash; a daughter, Ethel Holbrook; and a grandson, Ray Smith. WYATT Mrs. Alene Phillips Wyatt, age 82, of 2404 Plantation Center Dr., Matthews, NC, formerly of Glade Valley, died Saturday evening, April 19, 2003, at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. She was the widow of Ted Wyatt. Mrs. Wyatt was born March 13, 1921 in Ashe County to Kirby and Eva Phillips. She was a member of Sparta Presbyterian Church, and was retired from Sparta Industries. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Cindy Wyatt of Matthews; and a granddaughter, Meredith Wyatt of Matthews. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning, April 23rd., at 11:00 a.m. at the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church with Burial in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, however, friends may call at the home at 460 Glade Valley Rd., in Glade Valley at any time. MILES Mrs. Mae Royal Miles, age 90, 7308 Hwy. 21 South, Glade Valley, NC., died Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Will Miles, and was preceded in death by a son, Homer Miles; a grandson, Ira Miles; and six brothers. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Vena and Bruce Newsome of King, NC, Betty and Junior Walker of Glade Valley; a son, Melvin M. Miles of Mount Airy, NC; a special grandson who she raised, Gerald Leftwich of Glade Valley; other grandchildren, Windeloyn Clifton of Glade Valley, Abreena Tompkins of Ennice, Deryal Walker of North Wilkesboro, NC, Tamera Jackson of Mount Airy, and Derrick Miles of Roxboro, NC; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Hardin Royall of Hays, NC. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sprinkle Williams of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and J.M. MOXLEY Mrs. Joyce Hoppers Moxley, age 93, of 143 Reid St., Sparta, NC., died Friday morning, April 18, 2003, at the Ashbury Center in Wytheville, Ya. She was the widow of Claude H. Moxley. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Bower Hoppers. She is survived by a sister, Ruth H. Fender of Wytheville; seven nieces and nephews, Clayta Bryant of Wytheville, Linda Bowden of Chatham, Va, Charles Hoppers of Walnut Cove NC, Carol Freedle, Janie Duncan, Ann Woodie and Harold Hoppers, all of Sparta; and two special friends, Juanita Combs and Marie Truitt. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, April 20th. at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. HIGGINS Mr. Reece McCoy Higgins, 85, of Sparta died Friday afternoon, April 11, 2003, at Sunbridge of Alleghany in Sparta. Mr. Higgins was born in Wilkes County on Dec. 31, 1917, a son of Thomas McCoy and Mary Bell Higgins. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and North Africa and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Higgins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparta and retired from Duke Power after 41 years of service. His first wife, Betty Ingool Higgins, passed away in 1979. Surviving are his wife, Georgia Bell Higgins of the home; a daughter, Reeca Higgins Daniels and husband Mike of Kernersville; two sons, James McCoy Higgins of New York, N.Y., and William Keith Higgins of Mooresville; three grandchildren, Michael Daniels Jr., Mary Daniels Finison and husband Shane and Matthew Reece Daniels; a great-grandson, Brendan Luke Finison; two brothers, James Alvin Higgins and wife Mary of Winston-Salem and Dean Spicer Higgins and wife Dottie of San Diego, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mary Ruth Scott and husband Pete of Ennice; a stepgrandson, Randy Andrews and wife Leanne; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Colby and Kaylee Andrews. EDWARDS Mrs. Eva Johnson Edwards, age 87 of the Whitehead Community, Sparta, NC., quietly passed at her home with her family at 12:45 a.m., Monday the 7th of April 2003 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry D. and Patsy Edwards of the Whitehead Community in Sparta, NC., John L. REEVES Mrs. Clytie Duncan Reeves, age 95, of 84 Independence Rd., Sparta, NC., died Monday morning, April 7, 2003, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of George Carl Reeves. Mrs. Reeves was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was born in the Glade Creek section of Alleghany County on March 12, 1908, to John and Willie Edwards Duncan. She attended Glade Valley High School, Mitchell College and Appalachian State University. She taught school for nearly 40 years at Liberty Knob, Hooker, Wolf Branch, Carico, Little Pine, Glade Creek and Statesville. She was a member of the Cattleman�s Association, NC Association of Educators, Alleghany Unit of Retired School Personnel, NC Retired School Personnel and District NC Retired School Personnel. She received a blue ribbon in home economics from Glade Valley School, a gold medal in primary school, and a medal in recitation at Glade Valley, just to name a few She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ralph Underwood of Homestead, Florida; two sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar and Patsy Reeves, and John Van and Ella Reeves, all of Sparta; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, April 10th. at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
