GALYEN Mrs. Ina Jean Spurlin Galyen, age 79 of 9132 Hwy. 18 N., Ennice, NC., died Sunday evening, August 17, 2003, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Woodrow Galyen. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Lois Galyen, and Ronnie and Debbie Galyen, all of Ennice; Phillip Galyen of Elkton, Md; four grandchildren, Derrick Galyen, Shelley Carrico, Kristy Viars and Ronda Galyen; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Adam Carrico. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday evening, August 20th, at 8:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Crab Creek Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Crab Creek Cemetery, c/o Jack Handy, 1602 Crab Creek Rd., Ennice, NC 28623.
EVANS Mr. Johnny Coy Evans, age 75, of 299 Independence Rd., Sparta, died Sunday morning, August 17, 2003, at his home. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Reba Evans of Laurel Springs; and two sisters, Faye Buchanan of Newark, Del., and Vella Smith of Bayside, Del. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitehead - Joines Cemetery in the Whitehead Community. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family members will gather at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.
COURTESY FROM GRANDVIEW Mr. Robert Glenn "Bob" Shepherd, Jr., 70, of Jolly Road passed away Saturday August 16, 2003 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 31, 1933 in Alleghany County to the late Robert Glenn Shepherd, Sr. and Hazel Caudill Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was retired with 20 years of service with the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a Sergeant with the Correctional Department. He was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Laye. Surviving are his wife, Katie Wishon Shepherd; four children, Bob (Debbie) Shepherd, III, High Point, Keith (Diane) Shepherd, Lexington, Cynthia (Hank) Duncan, North Wilkesboro, and Kenneth Shepherd, Yadkinville; two sisters, Nancy (Rom) Matlock, Pearisburg, Va., and Georgia (Clay) Sheets, Sparta; a brother, Jimmy (Nancy) Shepherd, Piney Creek; and four grandchildren, Steven Duncan, Tyler Shepherd, Lauren Shepherd, Derek Simmons. His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday at the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Lee Cook. He will lay in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 North of Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center.
VALENTINE Mrs. Clara Bell Bryan Valentine, age 78, of 716 Wolfe Branch Road, Sparta, NC, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at her home. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Jr. and Louise Valentine of Raleigh, NC; Carson and Aura Valentine of Sparta; and Kenneth Brown of Elkin, NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Athon McCray of Sparta; a sister, Reba McMillan of Jarrettsville, Md.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; andseveral nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 18, 2003, at 12:00 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. The Rev. Charles Valentine Jr., Rev. Carolyn McCray, and Pastor Etheline Bryan will officiate. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.
CIRACO Mr. Domenick Ciraco, age 73 of 253 Evans Rd., Ennice, NC., died Monday, August 11, 2003, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. Mr. Ciraco was born in New York on June 2, 1930. For most of his life he was self-employed. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Ciraco of the home; two sons, Richard Rick Ciraco and wife Debbie of Deland, Fla., and Joseph Ciraco of Deland, Fla; grandchildren, Justin and Christopher Ciraco; a brother, Armando Pete Ciraco and wife Christine of Fries, Va; and a sister, Edie Felice of Harrison, New York. A memorial service will be held at Grandview Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 28th, at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Thom Burleson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 39 Ennice, NC 28623.Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.
ROUPE Mrs. Mildred Church Roupe, age 75, of 53 Lee St., Sparta, NC., died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was born in the Scottville Community on October 18, 1927, to John C. and Jennie Fender Church. She is survived by her husband, Floyd O. "Pud" Roupe of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Buddy Andrews of Dunn, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lizabeth Roupe of Sparta; three grandchildren, Brooke Bennett, Heather Andrews and Zachary Roupe; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Bob Dolinger of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, August 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church with Burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. The Rev. Larry Atwood and the Elder Don Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
