SINNETT Vancine Choate Sinnett, age 80, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. She was born November 20, 1922, in Sparta, North Carolina. Daughter of the late Andrew Vance Choate and Rebecca Osborne Choate, Vancine's youth was spent in Sparta and surrounding Alleghany County, "mountain country." Her early years revolved around the activities of her immediate family, her grandparents, an immense family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many dear friends. Throughout her life, there were numerous recollections to her children of growing up in a farming community, of showing riding horses, of fox hunting, of school activities, or whatever. If there was fun to be had, she and those she loved to be with were there. The bonds and the memories she carried with her forever. After graduating from Sparta High School in 1939, she attended Women's College in Greensboro (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) before going on to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond to study nursing. It was there that she met her husband to be, Dr. John F. Sinnett, then a medical student. After his graduation, they eventually gravitated to Newton, NC, with their three sons, John, Tom, and Drew. A devoted mother, she not only participated in many school related activities for her children, but passed on to them a wide variety of artistic and life skills. Born with a "green thumb," her love of flowers and gardening led her to formally study horticulture and floral arrangement. She was an active member of the Cardinal Garden Club of Newton, an affiliate of the Garden Club of North Carolina, and was honored to serve as a judge at many floral shows. In her later years, she returned to Sparta, where she opened Choate's Antiques. More importantly, however, she assisted her father and mother in the last years of their lives. After their passing, she returned once again to Newton, to the neighborhood that she had known for forty years. When her own health began to fail ten years later, she moved to Charlotte to be near her son, Tom, and was a resident at the Carriage Club. Funeral Services will be held at Sparta Presbyterian Church, Monday, September 29,2003, at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Thom Burleson will officiate. There will be a brief gravesite remembrance in Sparta Cemetery following the church service. Vancine is survived by one sister, Wanda Choate Strauss and husband Alfred of Raleigh; three sons, John F.
