EDWARDS Mr. Robert Bert Edwards, Sr. age 73 of 7346 NC Hwy 93, Piney Creek, NC, died Friday evening, November 28, 2003, at the Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. A daughter, Ruth Ann Bledsoe, preceded him in death. Mr. Edwards was born in Ashe County, September 15, 1930, to the late Robert and Annie Osborne Edwards. He was retired from Thomasville Chair Co. He is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Fitzgerald of Piney Creek, and Doris Key of Millers Creek; four sons, Robert Bert Edwards, Jr., Danny Edwards and Jack Edwards all of Hays, and Richard Edwards of Lenoir; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Sparta.
DARNELL Mr. Thomas Virgil Darnell, age 50 of 5519 Henderson Circle, Charlotte, NC., died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Presbyterian Hospice Hospital in Charlotte. He is survived by his parents, Werth and Faye Jenkins Darnell of the home; a brother, Donnie Ray Darnell of Miami, Florida; a twin brother, Timothy Estel Darnell of Charlotte; a sister, Linda Faye Christie of Sanford, Florida; and two nieces, Crimson Corene Darnell and Amber Lee Darnell both of Charlotte. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, November 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta with Burial in the Cranberry Cemetery at Laurel Springs. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, however, the family will gather at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
TRUITT Mrs. Dorothy Edwards Truitt, age 83, of 241 Pleasant Home Rd., Sparta, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2003, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by her husband, Foster Truitt of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Janice Truitt of Sparta, and Phillip and Sylvia Truitt of Cleveland, NC; two daughters and a son-in-law, Doris and Jack Handy of Ennice, and Nancy Nichols of Sparta; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Robert Lowe of Bel Air, Md. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, November 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Little River Primitive Baptist Church with Burial in the Zion Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. HINES Mrs. Lela Irwin Hines, age 99 of 2836 US Hwy. 221, Sparta, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2003, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Willie F. Hines, and was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Hines, and a grandson, Michael Hines. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Reba and Jay Walker of Bel Air, Md; and Edna and Walter Jones of Laurel Springs; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Rex and Edith Hines of Winston-Salem, William A. and Betty Hines of Columbia, S.C., and Ruth O. Hines of Sparta; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, November 29 th at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the New Hope Cemetery. WILLIAMS Mrs. Dana Denny Williams, age 66 of 386 Grayson St., Sparta, died Wednesday morning, November 26, 2003, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the widow of William Wayne Williams, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lane. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Margaret Williams of Sparta; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ernie Brooks of Sparta; four grandchildren, Meagan Williams, Craig Williams and wife Tabetha, Ryan Lane and Sheena Brooks; her mother, Ella Mae Denny of Jefferson; two brothers, Blake Denny and wife Mary of Winston-Salem, and Clay Denny and wife Peggy of Asheville; a sister, Faye Burgiss of Mocksville; and a son-in-law, Bill Lane of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, November 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. The Rev. Susan Sides and the Rev. She was the widow of Richard Lewis “R.L.” Jones. CROUSE Mrs. Grace Petty Crouse, age 80, of 137 Cox Run Road, Sparta, died Tuesday morning, November 11, 2003, at her home. She was the widow of Elder Brady John Crouse, who died April 10, 2000. She was the daughter of the late, Oscar Petty and Mary Hendrix Petty. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews. ROARK Mrs. Violet Tompkins Roark, age 87 formerly of Sparta, died Friday evening, November 7, 2003, at the Village Care Nursing Center in King, NC. She was the widow of Amon Roark. Survivors include: a niece, Gail Lineberry of King; and nephews Rickie Tompkins of Tobaccoville, and Teddy Tompkins and wife Brenda, of King; and other family members, Jennifer and Stephanie Lineberry, Bradley Essick, Christopher, and Jacob and Dawn Tompkins. Andrews, Sr., and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mozelle Andrews Decker. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Odell S. (Bud) Andrews, Jr., and his wife, Alene, of Chadbourn, NC; four grandchildren, Melissa and husband Lloyd Richardson of Blue Ridge, Va., David Decker of Columbia, Md., Craig Decker of Roanoke, Va., and Michael Andrews of Mertztown, Pa.; four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel Moxley of Galax, Va., and Alma Gregson and husband, Joe of Greensboro, NC. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Terry Mabe of Warrensville, NC; a daughter, Holly Blevins of Sparta; three grandchildren; six brothers, Jones Bare, Willie Bare and Gary Bare, all of Sparta, and Claude Bare and Jerry Bare of Wilkes County, and Carl Bare of High Point, NC; and two sisters, Evelyn Bare Money of State Road, NC, and Wanda Bare of Wilkes County. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday evening, November 6th at 8:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. An interment services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Roans Creek Cemetery in Ashe County.
