RASH Mr. Paul Vestal Rash, age 78, of 20 Maywood Dr., Taylors, South Carolina, and formerly of Glade Valley, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Retha Bennett Rash of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ronnie Strange of Taylors, South Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Tracy Rash of Belcamp, Maryland; two sisters, Ruby Crouse of Glade Valley and Mamie Colman of Joppa, Maryland; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25 th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Rich Hill Cemetery at Glade Valley. Military rites will be conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Charlie Bennett, 1309 Shawtown Road, Glade Valley.
ROBERTS Mrs. Mable Virginia Edwards Roberts, age 76, of 9799 Glade Valley, Rd., Ennice, NC, died Wednesday, April 21, 200, at her home. She was the widow of Eugene Robert. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and John Miller of Sparta, and Cassie and Randall Wheeler of Dobson; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and Herbert Dodson of Martinsville, Va; and a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Tressie Edwards of Baywood, Va. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24th, at the Saddle Mountain Cemetery. SMITH Mrs. Virginia Ann Mitchell Smith, age 59, of 206 Raider Rd., Olin, NC, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at her home. She is survived by her husband, Sonny Smith; a son, Mitch Smith of Ft. Myers, Florida; daughters, Shaye and Sterling Smith both of Olin, NC; grandchildren Ashley, Cody and Kendall Smith and Khaya Lundsford; one great-grandchild, Faith Hobbs; and two sisters, Pam Anders of Newburn, NC and Kim Wagoner of Raleigh. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22nd, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Crab Creek Cemetery. ANDREWS - DICKEY Mrs. Mary Andrews Dickey, 74, of 1507 Alderman Drive, Greensboro, departed this life on Friday, April 16, 2004, at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro at 5603 Hilltop Road. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens. Mrs. Dickey was a native of Sparta, N.C., and went on to teach home economics at the University of Cincinnati, University of Minnesota and UNC-G, where she taught for 33 years. She took particular pride in a project which educated native Bolivians in introducing soybeans into their diet. Mrs. Dickey was loved by her family, friends, students and co-workers. She was known by all for her generosity to others, tenacious spirit and wonderful sense of humor. She was a great cook, devoted Democrat and a huge fan of ACC basketball. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 47 years, Joseph Edward Dickey of the home; children Kevin Patrick Dickey of Greensboro, Denise Ann Dickey Chavatal and husband Hans of Parlin, N.J. and Kent Christopher Dickey and wife Helga of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Tommy Andrews and Jones Andrews both of Sparta; one sister, Georgia Warden of Sparta; and two grandchildren, Kristina Kent Dickey and Kent Joseph Dickey. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2004, at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home on North Elm Street. God bless her and may she rest in peace. HIGGINS Mrs. Joyce Glasco Higgins, age 70, of 87 Edmonds Rd., Ennice, NC, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Sparta, from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was the widow of Will Rogers Higgins, better known as Bill, and was preceded in death by her brothers, Dean and Bob Glasco; sisters, Marie Glasco, Norma Spears and Virginia Harless. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kathy Higgins of Boonville, NC; a grandson, Cory Higgins of Boone; a granddaughter, Megan Higgins of Sparta; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Loyce and Ray Tompkins of Ennice and Nellie and Roger Starnes of Glade Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 18th, at the Savannah United Methodist Church with Burial in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. ROBERTS Mr. Adam Trent Roberts, age 19, of 223 Wilson Rd, Ennice, NC, died Monday evening, April 12, 2004, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He is survived by his parents, Dewayne and Jennie Smith Roberts of the home; a sister, Julie Roberts of the home; his maternal grandparents, Billy and Shirley Smith of Ennice; and his fianc�e; Jessica Hart of Sparta. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Columbus and Pearl UpChurch Blevins; her husband of more than 50 yrs., Robert Lee Crouse; and two brothers, Cox and George Blevins. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Elaine Osborne of Glade Valley, and Gayle and Jimmy Kiser of Draper, Va; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Eleanor Crouse, Billy Wayne and Debbie Crouse, all of Sparta; and Gary and Judy Crouse of Wytheville, Va; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lois Blevins of North Wilkesboro; and several nieces and nephews. POOLE Mrs. Marion Lucille Cook Poole, age 89, of 163 New Haven Rd., Sparta, NC, died Monday evening, April 5, 2004, at her home. She was the widow of Omar Stewart Poole, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Gaye Poole and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Steve Cardwell, Nancy and Gale Church, all of Millers Creek, NC; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Poole and Keith Poole, both of Sparta, and David and Janet Poole of Evansville, Indiana; four granddaughters; five grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Cook of York, Pa., and John Cook and wife Wanda of Phoenix, Az; a special sister-in-law; Clyde Poole of Sparta; a special brother-in-law; Willie Lee Poole of Sparta; and several nieces, nephews, friends and relatives in Alleghany County. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9th, at New Haven Church of the Brethren in the Twin Oaks Community with Burial in the church cemetery.
