WILES Lester Eugene Wiles, age 77, of 290 Old Hwy 21, Sparta, died Wednesday morning, June 30, 2004, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Emma Turnmire Wiles of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mark Wagg of Piney Creek; four sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Kellye Wiles, Rex and Debbie Wiles, Mark and Brenda Wiles, Jamie and Amanda Wiles, all of Sparta; nine grandchildren; a brother, Bill Wiles of Sparta; two sisters, Nina Caudill of Galax, Va, and Ocie Bare of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 2nd at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Antioch Cemetery in the Stratford Community. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
CHOATE Mrs. Pauline Rogers Choate, age 89, of 1180 Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC, and formerly of Sparta, NC, died Tuesday morning, June 29, 2004, in Sumter. She was the widow of Clete B. Choate. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Drew and Laurie Choate of Dalzell, SC; a daughter and son-in-law, Cletra and Fred Wormley of Kernersville, NC; and two grandchildren, Adam Choate of Charleston, SC, and Heather Choate of Rock Hill, SC. A graveside services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, July 1st at the Sparta Cemetery. Rev Larry Atwood will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Thursday at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. RENUART Mr. John Rudolphe Renuart, age 73, of 1218 Ridgecrest Rd., Roaring Gap, NC, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Willis Renuart of the home; three sons, John Willis Renuart of Akron, Ohio; Arthur Sullivan Renuart of Rocky River, Ohio and William Wood Renuart of Coconut Grove, Florida; a daughter, Edith Presotaine Thomajen of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Denise Lannigan of Seattle, Washington and Louise Jochem of Atlanta, Georgia. A mass will be said Monday in Coral Gables, Florida; a graveside service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30th at the Roaring Gap Cemetery at Roaring Gap.
BLEVINS Mrs. Reba Edwards Blevins, age 87, of 8560 Hwy 21S. Glade Valley, died Wednesday evening, June 23, 2004, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Wayne Monroe Blevins, and was preceded in death by a son, Carl Dean Blevins. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Peggy Blevins of Sparta; grandchildren and spouses, Billy and Stephanie Blevins of Glade Valley, Karena and Mike Caudill of Sparta, Tammy and Buddy Marion of Sparta; Deana and Tim DeBord of Glade Valley, Daryl and Ronda Blevins of Sparta, and Nicole Blevins of Glade Valley; eleven grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Glenna Atwood of Glade Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery near Roaring Gap. COURTESY FROM GRANDVIEW NORTH WILKESBORO - Mr. Roy L. Choate, 81, of Baptist Home Road, North Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Choate was born March 30, 1923, in Alleghany County. Surviving are his wife, June Handy Choate of the home; two sons, Bill Choate of Sterling, Va., and Bob Choate of Sparta; two daughters, Esther Kenney of Advance and Betty Jo Smitherman of Pfafftown; two stepdaughters, Ann Parsons and Gayle Brown, both of North Wilkesboro; eight grandchildren; a stepgrandson; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Miller Funeral Chapel with Elder Larry Blevins and Elder Sam Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. He is survived by a sister, Marie Presnell of Sparta; a special friend, David Parsons of Sparta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, friends and neighbors. SEMONES Mr. Willard Thomas Semones, age 71, of 94 Lois Lane, Sparta, died Saturday evening, June 12, 2004, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Lois Nichols Semones of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Rick Duncan of Deep Gap, NC, Cynthia Good of Sparta, andPam Johnson of Glade Valley; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Tom Lunsford of Burlington, West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Shirley Semones of Chilhowie, Va; two step-children and spouses, Richard and Betty Nichols of Sparta, and Glenna and Don Atwood of Glade Valley; six grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. McDONALD Mrs. Lena Cole McDonald, age 62, of 820 Country Club Road, High Meadows Estates, Roaring Gap, NC., died Saturday morning, June 12, 2004, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Cole of Jewel Ridge, Va, and Thelma Vance Dean of Paintsville, Ky.; and two brothers, Josh Cole and Henry Cole, both of Paintsville, Ky. Lena was born in Buchanan County, Va, on March 25, 1942. In 1959, she married B. W. McDonald. Lena graduated from Whitewood High School in 1960. She worked at the post office for ten years as Post Master. In 1972, she and her family relocated from Whitewood, Va to Paintsville, Ky. In the early 80’s, she was a co-owner of the Bath and Linen Closet in Prestonsburg, Ky. Her hobbies included golfing, gardening, cooking and entertaining, but her real passion was her family, who she loved with all her heart. She is survived by five children, Tim McDonald, Tammy Williams, Greg McDonald, Greta Meek and Byrd McDonald; ten grandchildren; a brother, Carter Cole of San Francisco, Ca; and a host of family and friends. .A memorial service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. JOHNSON Mr. Robert Clarence “Bobby” Johnson, age 45, of 231 Dan Osborne Rd., Sparta, died Wednesday afternoon, June 9, 2004, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mack Johnson. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Christopher Sipes of State Road, NC; two sons, Preston Johnson of Missouri and Robbie Johnson of Chicago, Ill; seven grandchildren; his mother, Mary Isom Johnson of Ennice; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and James Richardson of Sparta; a brother, Earl Johnson and fiance Pat Edwards of Glade Valley; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. YASINSAC Mrs. Vecie Church Yasinsac, 83, of 231 Maple St., Sparta died Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was the widow of Andrew Yasinsac Sr. She was born July 24, 1920, the daughter of Alec Fletcher Church and Allie Parsons Church in Wilkes County. Mrs. Yasinsac resided in Sparta since 1959. She graduated from business school in Boise, Idaho. She was employed in various capacities in Sparta schools, including assistant librarian and teaching assistant for many years. She is survived by three sons, Cody Yasinsac of Kannapolis, Andrew Yasinsac of Columbia, S.C., and Alec Yasinsac of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Vecie Yasinsac of St. Augustine, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Yasinsac; nine grandchildren, Diane Dulaney, Leslie Yasinsac, Bryan Yasinsac, Cristin Yasinsac, Molly Yasinsac, Liam Yasinsac, Claire Yasinsac, Nicole Yasinsac and Andrew Yasinsac; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Church and Laura Church; and a brother-in-law, Merrill Wiles. The funeral service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. The Rev. John McCray will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Lewis Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in the Purlear community of Wilkes County. GIBSON Little Logan Duke Gibson, age 3 months, of 33 Royal Acres Lane, Glade Valley, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his home. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Brenda Bumgarner. He is survived by his parents, Duke Gibson and Tammy Bumgarner of the home; a brother, Brandon Bumgarner of the home; his maternal grandfather, Carlis Whitaker of Sparta; his paternal grandfather, James Gibson and wife, Lynne, of Sparta; paternal grandmother, Kathy Gibson and fiance Virgil Lambert of Parisburg, Va; and his maternal great-grandmother, Gertha Alley of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell, West Virginia.
